    • It's a Seiko!
These presage watches are nice. I do have a couple of points to make however. First this watch is thick. I wonder how it will "slip" under a shirt cuff. I admit I don't wear dress shirts all that often so for myself this shouldn't be a problem. Still, if you like thin style watches, look elsewhere. The date complication. at least for my tired 66 year old eyes is impossible to read. If the date is important to you, go with a Presage model that has a date window. Still in all it is a pretty watch. I put mine on a stainless steel mesh band and it looks quite good. There are a multitude of different styles of these Presage watches so finding the right one for you should be fairly easy. ... show more

One of the most attractive Seiko Cocktail watches that I have seen. I own a several Seiko divers but this is the first dress watch. I always draws compliments and inquiries. Way better watch than price would lead you to believe.

The pictures that show this product, in fact, are not 100% correct. For example, to see the rays on the dial, you need to try very hard. And this is a publicity stunt!

    • Dead on Arrival
This review is --not-- about the 3rd party seller but about the watch itself. The seller did a great job shipping in a timely manner and refunded in a timely manner. I gave this an overall rating of 1 star because the watch came dead on arrival. Wound it up to 40hrs. and it refuses to run. I cannot say that the watch was defective straight from manufacturing to the seller or Amazon did such a poor packaging job that the packaging has caused a fatal trauma to the watch itself. The watch came in its original box but it was not seated in the pillow and was bouncing all over the inside of the box. The box was put inside Amazon's typical bubble pouch. Imagine that watch that gets transported from its origin in a thin package and the watch not seated properly on the pillow, and the watch gets thrown around by the shipping folks from plane to truck and finally to its destination. A mechanical watch has its tolerance of shock absorbance but throwing the watch around into a pile of other packages over and over again without any protection of the watch can be very detrimental to the watch. I QUESTION the quality of Amazon's poor care when it comes to properly packaging sensitive items that are prone to failure if not packaged properly. Since the watch did not work, i can only give my feed back on the dimensions and the look and feel of the watch with star rating from 1 - 5 stars. 1. this specific Presage model is BULKY (to say the least) and am not sure this would serve as a dress watch since i highly doubt that it could easily slip under the shirt's cuff. (1 star) 2. the case diameter is 40mm but man, it looks and feels like a 43mm (quite big on the wrist). (2 star) 3. aesthetically, it looks nice in brown dial. (4 star) 4. the power reserve would serve a good purpose if you need to check the power and hand wind it. (5 star) 6. the date on the wheel is nearly impossible to read unless you are a 25yr. old. What is the point of putting in the date wheel if Seiko made the date printing wee-tiny that the majority of the folks who want a Presage is in the 36+ years of age range. Young adults would not seek out this watch b/c this demographic would go for a modern watch and not an inspired watch that came out from the 60s. (1 star) 7. weight wise it feels not light and not hefty but something in between so it would not be exhausting to wear. (4 star) 8. dimensions by using digital caliper: lug to lug : 46 mm (this is important for those of you who have 6.5 inch wrist; for 7 inch wrist it might look better). If you have a small wrist like me (less than 6.5 inch), the lugs will hang from the side of the wrist and could be uncomfortable. case diameter: 40mm case + crown: 45 mm thickness: 14mm (too thick) Hope this helps. If size is of essence and you need a dress watch, i highly recommend you look elsewhere. I'd recommend the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 on amazon. For $100 more, you get a well made swiss movement based on ETA 2824-2 and was heavily modified by Tissot and it uses silicon hairspring so that it is not prone to magnetism - the major cause of huge time deviation. ... show more

    • So what color is the dial?
Overall, the watch really looks great. Please note the picture on Amazon is more than 2x actual size. The date subdial is compact enough that it is hard to read the current dated. But what color is the dial? I just received it today and it is rainy and heavy overcast, so I have not been able to look at it in full sunlight, but outdoors and indoors, the dial looks black. The strap is a nicely constructed dark brown leather The buckle is easy to use. . I have several 'automatic' watches and all of them have stopped sometime while I was wearing them because I was not active enough for my movements to keep it running. I was too ignorant to know most of them could be manually wound. That is why I like the power reserve indicator and the clear instructions packed with the watch about how to manually wind it and set the time/date. No need to go to a web page search for the watch model, and print out 40 pages tiny print. But what color is the dial? Go look at the ice blue version of this watch here on Amazon. The picture shows the flaring grooves on the dial. This brown one has the same effect -- under most light I cannot see them and the dial looks black. When turned at just the right angle under a very bright lamp, I can see that sunburst treatment and some of them look dark blue or purple, and the rest dark brown. I have not had the watch long enough to say anything about its accuracy, but past experience tells me Seiko makes a pretty good automatic movement even though a 40 hour power reserve is short compared to many others, even Seiko. Really is a great watch for the money under $600 depending where you buy. The dial is a bit thicker than expected. Keeps time well only gains a few seconds for the day
