The size takes longer for cooking time but its a nice slow and steady stream once it's up to temp. Easy to separate it through the cooking stages. I don't like that the end of the worm is so close to the edge and thus the heat source .

It takes some babysitting, but running cold water through the condenser as high up the pot as possible is key (I recommend buying a tube clamp to help with this), as well as keeping as consistent a temperature as possible. Turn cheap cheap vodka into a pure, clean ethanol...still tastes like vodka, but is sooooo much cleaner. I didn't believe there would be that big of a difference, but you have a better buzz, smoother taste (in mixed drinks you can't even taste it), and best of all...no hangover whatsoever (at least for me). If done properly, it comes out highly concentrated (think ever clear) but if you purchase a decent hydrometer, you can easily dilute it with tap water (or any water of your choice) and get it back to the proof you'd like (I set mine to 60 because it's still so smooth and can't taste it in mixed drinks so why not?). Unless you really know what you're doing and want to make large batches, go with the 3 gallon, it's much easier to store/handle/setup.

It is a hassle to use just to distill water. I thought I wanted to be able to distill large amounts of water at home until I tried using this set-up. First off, the directions are not clear. What is the pump for?!? Then the noise it makes if you carry it to the shower to fill! The pot top closure thingies just rattle against the pot with each step. Then the hoses they provide will slip off when all the ice melts in the little pot with the coil on top of the pot (which is the worst place to put it! But they don’t give you anything to support it away from the pot.) Everything gets hot and the iced water will start to steam within 10 minutes and how are you supposed to change out the hot water with more ice and water? You have to detach it from the pot by unscrewing the hot copper coil. Next, not only does it take forever but you can’t even see how much water you have left so you have to constantly shake the hot pot and guess how much still needs to be distilled. It takes a lot of stove time. I ran it twice about twenty to thirty minutes and I got about an inch and a half of water in a 5 gallon bottle. Costs less to just run to the store and buy some distilled water. Then you gotta clean all those pieces and a very large pot and lid. I would return this if the window had not closed already. Ridiculous.

Read a book or two and run it with water a couple times to clean it out and get comfortable setting it up and running it. I ferment Golden Barrel Black Strap Molasses and end up with a bit of Parts Cleaner, a bit of Delicious Rum and a bit of low quality stuff I call Grog. I know this is going to sound strange but Black Sails and 24 to 17% abv Grog go very well together. Give the Rum time to Age while getting your pirate face on with the Grog.

Both hose levers on top are wobbly and leak. Can't tighten due to glue material used to hold nut. Expect about a year and 3 months of use if left outside and covered in Florida. On my 4th one, 3rd time with this brand. I would pay more for good quality if I could. I make 4 gallons of water every week. Showing old one and new one in photos.
