Buying a mattress these days has never been easier and mattress quality has never been better, and the Sealy 10-Inch Hybrid Bed in a Box is no exception. This mattress arrived on my doorstep in a modest 16.5 x 16.5 x 44.5 inch box weighing about 60 pounds. The mattress inside is shrink-wrapped in a plastic roll. Make sure you have enough room before unwrapping the mattress, and be careful not to cut into the mattress when cutting through the plastic wrap. At the factory the mattress was folded in half then rolled up, and in the picture you can see how the mattress has expanded as I removed the plastic wrap. Unlike previous memory foam mattresses I had purchased, which required at least a day to fully expand, this mattress almost instantly achieved its full expanded shape. I had expected to need to expand the mattress in a well-ventilated room, but was pleasantly surprised that the Sealy mattress did not have a chemical smell–the mattress did have a “new mattress smell,” but it was not offensive. There are four main layers to the mattress: 1) a layer of individually-encased coils, 2) a layer of comfort foam, 3) a layer of premium memory foam, and 4) a removable cover. The combination of coil layer and the memory foam layers are where this mattress gets its “hybrid” name. Note however that there are two thicknesses: 10-inch and 12-inch. The 10-inch–the one I have–is a medium-firm feel, whereas the 12-inch is a medium feel. The 12-inch has extra thickness in the top memory foam layers, which results in a softer feel level. The zippered outer cover is removable and has a quilted texture on the top surface. All in all I am very happy with this Sealy 10-Inch Hybrid Bed in a Box mattress. While the mattress cannot be flipped, since the memory foam layers are only on one side of the mattress, you can rotate the mattress if you need to in time. The coil layer helps set this mattress above pure memory foam mattresses–I don’t have the feeling I am sinking into the mattress and the mattress didn’t retain my body heat, which means I slept cooler. I was also impressed by how quickly the mattress expanded and was ready to use. I found this mattress to be very comfortable. In fact, just after I publish this review I think it’s time for another nap. Sweet dreams. Thanks for reading. Buyer beware. For this product, Vine reviews should be taken with grain of salt because they received a free product and strangely enough all the Vine reviews were extremely positive. But the pictures here tell another story. Luckily Amazon was direct seller and I had no trouble getting a refund and easy pickup of this 10 inch "hybrid" mattress (full size) which is a piece of garbage. It's like a bed from the 1980s - you can touch all the coils, no edge support on the sides, your fingers can go into the coils. The padding seems only .5 to 1 inch inches thick and to my eyes is of poorer quality than the cheap $40 mattress pad foam toppers you can buy at bed bath and beyond. The label on the mattress says "Polyurethane foam pad 100%"-- I highly doubt that's what any customer envisions when they read the ad on amazon that says "HIGH DENSITY" and "premium foam." To see the reality, you just have to unzipper the cover on the mattress (the cover is nice), and underneath the zippered cover you see this bizarre looking mounds of fabric (cream color in photo, looks like a mattress protector for a crib), and then you can feel the actual foam, which I'm squeezing between my thumb and index finger in the 2nd pic-- as you can see there's barely any foam or padding. The WSJ recently did a story about the dangers of buying from 3rd party sellers on amazon, but apparently you have to be careful now when you buy direct from amazon too, because they appear to lack quality control over the contents of the advertisements that are placed. The mattress is exactly what I needed for my spine and hips. Comfortable. Great support but not to firm. I haven't had any aches or pain when I wake up. Perfect night sleep. However, I had much difficulty getting it delivered. I had a tracking number given to me by Amazon. It did not get here on date expected. I called UPS, and after 5 days they had never received the mattress. The problem really began because I had given my old mattress away. Now I had nothing to sleep on. Amazon customer service told me to wait 2 more days. Well, I have cancer of the bone and had to sleep on the floor. After 2 days, it had not arrived. UPS said they still had no mattress from Amazon. Customer Service from Amazon said they guaranteed delivery in 2 days. Two days passed. No mattress. I ended up spending $570 for 7 days in a motel because the pain front cancer of the bone was too great to sleep on floor. Finally, UPS received the mattress at the warehouse on Friday afternoon. 1.6 miles from my house. They would not let me pick it up. They had orders from Amazon to only deliver. UPS finally delivered it 3 days later. Amazon customer representatives promised me so much, including some credit which I have seen 3 weeks later, nor even a response from them. The mattress is great. Best mattress I've even owned. But now it's hard for me to trust Amazon and UPS. ... show more

Better than my Sleep Number bed and better than the tempurpedic cloud I replaced the sleep number with. By far the best mattress I have ever slept on. Perfect initial comfort-soft layer with deep support that doesn't sag, sink, or give. Great bounce back. Doesn't sleep hot. Was easy to remove from box and place on bed. "Popped up" immediately and was ready to sleep on. Zero off-gassing or funky smells. It's absolutely met every need. I cannot recommend it enough. It's JUST RIGHT. I'd buy it again!
