  • Good Drive
Capacity: 3 TB
I purchased these to replace the failing 1TB drives in a video surveillance system. These were not listed on the "approved" drive list from the vendor, but they installed and functioned flawlessly. The system has been running with these installed now for a little more than a month and have had no issues. The system writes over the drives as soon as they all fill up, but to date the system has not filled all of the drives (the old capacity was 9TB, now it is 27TB). The price for these drives on sale was actually cheaper that the replacement 1TB drives. If anything changes I will update the review. ******************************************************************************** Update February 2014 ******************************************************************************** All drives have been running 24/7 for over a year and have been written over a minimum of 8 times each and are still functioning flawlessly. When they were installed the capacity of the system was tripled, but now with new retention requirements that is not quite enough. Since the price of larger drives is significantly less than the price of an add-on unit we will be installing larger drives in the system and repurposing these drives. We have definitely gotten our money from these drives. ... show more

  • Loving it.
Capacity: 2 TB
I'm using this for a Q-See QT548. This is a definite upgrade from the WD 500 "green" drive that comes standard. I could tell right away, after recording for a little while, that the performance was greatly improved. Shuttling through the video is _much_ smoother than before and the storage size is the maximum that the QT548 can take. I can record all 8 cameras for a very, very long time. I'm using the highest video setting available too, and the performance is still better than I expected. I highly recommend this drive so long as the life is what the manufacturer claims. I took a look at the Seagate site and it's pretty impressive specs. I've always trusted Seagate for my HDs since I switched from using WD, which, in my experiences, didn't last very long before going out. I'll certainly update this post if anything changes. ... show more

  • Well worth the extra money for a 2TB HD over a 1TB
Capacity: 2 TB
I ordered this after my 1TB hard drive failed in my Lorex 8 surveillance camera system. Having a hard drive beats the cloud service any day in my opinion. I went from 2 weeks of recorded data to 2 MONTHS of recorded data when I upgraded to this hard drive. I've been using it for 4 months now I believe and it's worked flawlessly. It's an easy install, as they all are. By paying a little bit more, you get double the hard drive capacity. I'm a sucker for the cheap upgrade even if it means I get to look at the past a little bit longer. You never know when that surveillance footage will become useful after you notice something and need to back track. Great product. ... show more

  • Dead out of the box
Capacity: 2 TB
Bought this hard drive for my DVR, but the DVR would never boot with it installed. I spent time troubleshooting everything, checked the power adapter, tested the DVR without the drive, and verified the DVR itself was working properly. As soon as the hard drive was connected, the system would start beeping and fail to boot. After testing, it became clear the drive was dead/faulty right out of the box. To make things worse, the drive arrived wrapped only in bubble wrap instead of proper original hard drive packaging, which is unacceptable for such a sensitive item and may explain why it was damaged. Very disappointing experience overall and a waste of time troubleshooting. I would not recommend this drive based on my experience. ... show more

  • Great Drivesfor a NAS
Capacity: 3 TB
Purchased four of these drives to use in my Synology DS512+. Installed them and have started to load data onto the server. Sofar, I have had no issues with the performance of the drive. The drives are quiet and fast. The only issue I have run into is that one of the four drives I purchased was shipped to me in a box without any packing material. The drive was bouncing around in the box. I am working with Amazon to RMA the drive. Will update this review once I get the drive replaced. ... show more

  • Boot Disk Use:
Decided to try this out as my main (system boot) disk for Windows 7. Works fine so far for one month. HDTune says it's average speed is about 162 MB/sec (ave. of 4 runs). Compared to my good but old Samsung 320 GB F3 hard disk which had an average of 124 MB/sec (and was about 1/2 full). Access time (HDTune) was similar: 14.2 msec on this drive, 14.5 on the 3-yr old F3. Middle of the road performance for a new hard drive. I will replace it with something faster when I can get a quality 1TB drive for $60 or so, but for now it filled my need for extra space and a bump up in speed. ... show more

  • Good HDD for network-video-recording application, cheaper as it is from a previous generation
Capacity: 3 TB
Works well (one month so far) - Quite silent - Only ducking one star as it seems to heat up way too much (reaches 50C in a 30C ambient), in the fanless enclosure of the Amcrest NVR (NV1104) in which it is placed. Long term reliability will only be known after a year plus in service.. Note that this NVR does not put the HDD in standby mode at all and the poor fellow keeps spinning.. This is EVEN AFTER SOFT SHUTTING DOWN the NVR! Cannot blame the HDD for heat stress! (I have only "record after motion detect", so there is plenty oppurtunity for the NVR to put HDD at reat!!) ... show more
