I broke down and bought a couple of non - stick frying pans. I've cooked on cast iron for half a century, but they're heavy; so much so that flipping an egg may cause a wrist injury. I cleaned the cooking surface one of my new, lighter weight, non - stick frying pans with one of those green scratch pads. Now, this non - stick frying pan holds on to an egg ... even with copious amounts of oil ... like cooking on a concrete sidewalk. I have been using these sponges for about three years now. I've never liked sponges due to the odors they tend to get and the overall grossness I have associated with them. These have a texture that helps to get food and grime off with NO scratches left on kitchenware or dishes. I have never smelled an odor on these, which is really a God-send. I would like to say, I know odor can vary depending on water quality. I have used these in both regular tap and soft water, and I personally have never smelled an odor with either, but that may be something to keep in mind.     • No longer as durable as they used to be
I am editing my review. I was extremely pleased with them the first time I purchased a set. I have recently bought a new batch, and they seem to have been changed. I believe the sponge material inside is now different. The material flattens after a few uses, making it much less functional and also ill-fitting inside of the outer mesh material. I likely won't buy these again. Such a shame! I have lowered the stars to 3 down from 5. Original review: These pads are exactly what I have been searching for. They are slightly larger and more sturdy than the ones I used to find in stores ~ and I hadn't even been able to find those lately.
