This helmet is amazing. The UV visor rules(enough sun protection to not get sunburn after a few hours out), the little pockets for Cardo or Sena speakers are super cool, it blocks tons of wind noise(enough that earplugs weren't necessary with fast winds at my face) and there are loads of size options for different head sizes(I'm a 3XL!). More importantly, though, it provides lifesaver defense at a far lower price than a hospital bill. I had a really bad fall on an e-scooter, broke my pelvis in two places. My head hit the ground hard and scraped against the ground for maybe 5 feet, but was perfectly fine because of this helmet. Impact was fully absorbed by the padding, didn't even feel a jolt, neck didn't get any notable strain. I undoubtedly would've had a brutal concussion and facial road rash if I had just worn my usual e-scootering bicycle helmet. I had decided to wear the motorcycle helmet to see if it would fit in a motorcycle trunk - was literally on the way to a motorcycle dealership. Brakes failed me, pelvis fractures are brutal but I'm very thankful Scorpion Exo protected my head. I could be in a much worse state if I weren't wearing most of my gear! An airbag vest would've completely saved me, while being far cheaper than the $1,260 urgent care bill, but I was gonna wait until I had the motorcycle to get one of those... wear your gear! I'm gonna be walking very slowly, inches at a time, with crutches for a few weeks and won't heal for at least a month. A little more gear could've prevented that entirely. Protect your head first, though! Easily the most important thing to protect. I recommend this for more than just motorcyclists, strongly recommended for e-scooterers and anyone on a very fast bicycle. Airflow was fine enough that I felt cool scootering at 20MPH in 82 degree weather, haven't worn it in hotter weather or at fast motorcycle speeds. ... show more

Beautiful and comfortable helmet. I was evaluating this and the EXO sport-touring version.. the R1 was really nice, but made to be in the racing position for the venting to work well. I ride a BMW R1250RT, and I'm sitting very upright, so I went with the other one which provided better airflow for my seating position. BOTH helmets are amazing. ... show more

    • Super light weight
*Crash report update.* 6/29/2023 I just had the unfortunate opportunity to crash test this helmet. I was hit hard at a trackday at Road America. The impact broke 2 bones in my foot and sent me on a potentially catastrophic high side. I came down to earth face first and had a clear view of the tarmac as I approached. I knee the impact would be significant, and it was. Other similar incidents resulted in no memory of the impact whatsoever. Heck, in those cases I only remember waking up in the hospital. In this case, retained full consciousness and remember the impact well. I remember the sound of the helmet hitting the pavement and thinking, wow, that could have been so much worse. The helmet did its exact job! I also believe, it did a serious job of saving me from yet another concussion. My foot, which was impacted by the other MC, didn't fair as well, but even that was saved from worse damage by the Rex Air Sidi boot. Even though it is priced well, in addition to high end features, you get high end protection. I am so happy I had this helmet on during this incident. I've had far worse outcomes, recently. I highly recommend it. ********************************************** I bought this helmet to replace my Bell Star that hit the ground in a crash. The Bell was my 2nd helmet in a couple of months because I had another hit the ground shortly before. The Bell helmets are great and I like the safety of the MIPS system but getting only weeks from $600+ helmets sucks. I’ve used Scorpion in the past and liked them. I wanted to save a few dollars but didn’t want to go with a low end helmet. Whatever I bought needed to have emergency release cheek pads to be allowed in my race series. The R1 air checked all of the boxes for a price several hundred less that other helmets. In addition it includes Pin-Lock posts and an inner anti fog shield you can install if you choose. When I pulled it out of the box I was quite surprised how light weight this helmet is. I compared it to my team mates Bell Race Star Carbon Fiber helmet and the weight was very similar. It is also much lighter than my previous Bell Star. I was very surprised how much difference this lighter weight made when riding. The weight difference is noticeable at all times. The fit is very good too. Add in the inflatable cheek pads and this is not only a great super light premium helmet, but also an exceptional value. For hundred less than others you get a very light helmet that includes, Pin Lock and an inner shield, a clear and tinted shield, emergency release cheek pads, and inflated cheek pads. Add to this that the helmet is homologated for Moto GP and you know that it meets all of the safety requirements of the highest form of motorcycle racing in the world. ... show more

    • Good helmet, but not as quiet as my Shoei RF1400

I purchased this helmet after using Shoei RF1400 for one and a half years. Comparing this to my RF1400, I find this helmet is lighter. It fits my head better. Being able to pump air into cheek pads gets me a better fit. I like the fact that they provide extra vizer. Overall build quality is also good. Design is more modern looking as well. However, RF1400 is a much quieter helmet and that is why this helmet gets 4 stars and not 5. Wearing the two helmet back to back, I was surprised how much quieter RF1400 is compared to this helmet. I have to ride this helmet with ear plugs. If I do not use ear plugs, I will prefer Shoei RF1400. ... show more
