  • Super light weight
I bought this helmet to replace my Bell Star that hit the ground in a crash. The Bell was my 2nd helmet in a couple of months because I had another hit the ground shortly before. The Bell helmets are great and I like the safety of the MIPS system but getting only weeks from $600+ helmets sucks. I’ve used Scorpion in the past and liked them. I wanted to save a few dollars but didn’t want to go with a low end helmet. Whatever I bought needed to have emergency release cheek pads to be allowed in my race series. The R1 air checked all of the boxes for a price several hundred less that other helmets. In addition it includes Pin-Lock posts and an inner anti fog shield you can install if you choose. When I pulled it out of the box I was quite surprised how light weight this helmet is. I compared it to my team mates Bell Race Star Carbon Fiber helmet and the weight was very similar. It is also much lighter than my previous Bell Star. I was very surprised how much difference this lighter weight made when riding. The weight difference is noticeable at all times. The fit is very good too. Add in the inflatable cheek pads and this is not only a great super light premium helmet, but also an exceptional value. For hundred less than others you get a very light helmet that includes, Pin Lock and an inner shield, a clear and tinted shield, emergency release cheek pads, and inflated cheek pads. Add to this that the helmet is homologated for Moto GP and you know that it meets all of the safety requirements of the highest form of motorcycle racing in the world. ... show more

  • Great helmet for the price!!!
Overall, this is a great helmet. I also have a Shoei so I was concerned this helmet may feel cheap since it’s more affordable than a Shoei. The quality of the material feels good, the helmet is light and it feels effortless to wear. I highly recommend getting it if you’re in the market for a sporty helmet for around 400 bucks ... show more

  • Gran Calidad a buen precio
Size: Small Color: PHANTOM

  • Extremely high build quality. Perfect design.
I had a chance to look at this helmet in the store, and try it on. I tried on a large R1 Air Scorpion with the black matte/carbon fiber finish. I noticed it has better features than a Shoei, which cost $200 more. It is far more beautiful than the Shoei or Arai helmets. I honestly can't understand why anyone would buy a Shoei, when Scorpion, Sedici, and Nolan, build beautiful helmets that are engineered better. I tried and tried, and couldn't open the visor on an Arai helmet in the store, and the locking latch was on the side of the visor, in a terrible spot, because it only holds down one side of the visor. The Arai is a $700 helmet. The Scorpion R1 Air has a center locking tab which holds the visor tightly shut against the rubber gasket and it's extremely easy to open and close. I have had no difficulty using my Scorpion EXO-420 helmet, which I just purchased, which has the same latching mechanism. I am dead set on purchasing an R1 Air, because it's priced correctly. You get a better helmet than a Shoei, for much less money. Pros (I didn't get a chance to ride with the helmet but I tried it on and compared it to other helmets.) 1.) It has a chin curtain that extends fully, and a rear curtain around the back of the neck which has a draw string. This is a very good design for blocking wind. Other helmets in the store didn't have these features, from any of the other brands, Arai or Shoei. 2.) It has closeable vents on the front and top, you can completely seal off these vents for normal shitty driving where you have terrible, terrible, terrible (normal) wind. Does anyone actually use vents? No. No they don't. Unless they have a full windshield. They should build non-vented helmets for sportbike riders, because the wind blast is SO extreme that air literally blows up inside the helmet, without any vents open. 3.) The back vent is a venturi, so should be quiet. It doesn't face the wind blast. But it's not closeable. This seems to be the standard design found on all helmets now. The Scorpion R1 has the coolest looking rear vent. It's just so much prettier than an UGLY Shoei. All of the Shoei helmets look like 1990's era helmets. 4.) The colors are amazing. It looks expensive, and high tech. The first time I saw the R1 Air I was like HOLY CRAP. So cool! I rarely like any of the new helmets. But Scorpion has the best looking helmets, across the board. Their helmets are the best looking, period. Other than Sedici, which are incredibly beautiful too.. 5.) The price is lower than other brands, and the engineering design of the R1 Air seems better than all the other more expensive helmets. The crappy side latching mechanisms on the more expensive helmets, doesn't provide even pressure on the shield, and I personally don't like the side latching shields. Some people hate the center latching shield, because it's harder to reach. I find the Scorption center latch to be solid, but also really easy to open and close. Closing is as easy as just slamming the visor shut, and it automatically latches. 6.) For $45 you can get gold, blue, purple, black, clear, light smoke replacement face shield. 7.) The optics of the Scorpion shields is outstanding. I have been testing my Scorpion EXO-420 and I can't see any optical distortion at all in the shield, it's crystal clear with no accidental magnification. 8.) Super high airflow. I hate airflow. But the EXO-420 helmet and the R1 Air that I looked at, have 3 different main vents, and look to be capable of cooling your head, even in the most extreme heat conditions. On my EXO-420, the top vent works, and blows air into the helmet, without barely introducing any noise into the helmet. The R1 appears to have nearly the identical vent design, I assume it's also very quiet. 9.) Comes with 2 shields and is pinlock ready. I wrote this review because there is a serious problem with people buying Shoei and Arai helmets. But in the reviews, they aren't any quieter, and they aren't any better, overall. They are extremely ugly. But the worst part of all, they are overpriced. These companies are basically borderline criminal. To charge $700 for a piece of plastic that they make in a mold, with no fancy electronics, no machinery, very little Human assembly, and with no special materials, is really a complete RIP OFF. Scorpion understands that there is no need to charge $700. And if they charged $700, I'd still give a good review. But I would tell people to buy a different brand. The companies charging $700 should not get your money. They should not be rewarded for trying to price gouge. I'll be a permanent Scorpion customer. I can afford to buy 3 or 4 of their helmets, compared to one Shoei. I have an EXO-420 and it's so impressive, and the areodynamics and the look has impressed me so much, I want to buy the R1 Air as well. When I tried on the R1 Air, it fit better than any of the helmets in the store. It just feels like it was designed properly, to actually fit your head. It was tight on my head, and not too tight on my cheek bones. So far, every helmet I've ever tested, is always "ripping tight" on my cheek bones, and not that tight around the head. I get the feeling (just a feeling) that Scorpion helmets are a better fit than most of the helmets. The fit is nearly identical to the AGV and Nolan helmets I've tested recently, which both have equal or very slightly tighter cheek pads. I tried on an LS2 and it was AWFUL. I tried on another LS2, and it was so bad, it was laughable (AVOID unless you have a very strange shaped head and need to experiment). Scorpion is beautifully crafted, has the same fit and finish, comes with a thick, padded helmet bag, looks modern (not like a 1990's antique) and they are very aerodynamic. No whistling or hissing, and no wind vibrations or oscillations. Cons: Price. I'd like to see the R1 Air at $300. For $400, I found myself leaving the motorcycle shop with a EXO-420 helmet instead. I don't like the idea of spending $400 on a piece of plastic and foam. But after spending some time thinking about it, and being so impressed with the EXO-420, I think I'll buy the R1 Air and keep the EXO-420 as a backup. ... show more
