  • Great looking and very solid bookshelves.
Color: Chalked Chestnut Finish
These are sturdy with great fitting tight connections that make them look high quality. We love the finish too. A timeless look for years to come.

  • Nice but a harder than necessary assembly.
Color: Grand Walnut Finish
The bookshelf is nice. Way too much effort is needed to put it together. The shelves have an upper and lower part to assemble instead of the sides being solid pieces. I’m sure it saves them shipping costs, but it doubles the work and cuts down on the stability.

  • Overall happy with this bookcase Overall happy with this bookcase
Color: Chalked Chestnut Finish
Bottom line - good bookcase, but seems overpriced (at time of review it is listed at $309.99) I was in need if a bookcase when I saw this. At 5 shelves, it would provide plenty if storage for my books and a few knick knacks...so I decided to order. The bookshelf was easy to assemble. You do need your own tools (screw driver, hammer, and drill). But one unexpected item in the hardware bag was a nail holder and it works pretty good...so no more worrying about hitting your fingers when hammering in the nails for the back. I think it took me about 35-40 minutes to assemble and the 'hardest' part for me was ensure I centered the nails when attaching the cardboard back to make sure the nail didn't deform the wood and ruin the finish (which still wasn't hard). This bookcase overall looks nice..especially when viewed from more than 5 ft away. Boards seem to be good quality and Sauder has maintained their quality throughout the years...this is on par with items I've purchased in the past. I would definitely use the anti tip device to attach this to the wall, as it is very tall and can tip easily...especially if you have kids. So why not 5 stars? I was just a little disappointed in how the boards join together. As you can see from some of my close-up photos, there are some gaps between boards (front molding and sides) and others are not fully flush...with no was to adjust them. As mentioned above...it is not too noticeable once you take a few steps back. However, at this price I would have hoped for slightly better. All in all I'm happy with this product and overall would recommend it. However, I feel it is slightly overpriced. ... show more

  • Perfectly sized pieces and all of the brackets/holes line up Perfectly sized pieces and all of the brackets/holes line up
Color: Grand Walnut Finish
The only con is how heavy the box is, upon delivery. Well packaged and zero flaws in wood laminate. Took me about 2-3 hours to assemble as I was constantly toggling between bookcase assembly and managing a needy toddler. You'll need a hammer and a Philips screwdriver for assembly. I used an electric screwdriver with low torque setting followed by hand tightening. To my surprise, this bookshelf kit was made in the USA, with import and domestic parts. In 2025, I honestly can't say when the last time I saw Made in the USA stamped on a product box. The directions were easy to follow and definitely written by a native English speaker/writer, as everything was coherent and the author included a few random jokes and some sarcasm. Once it was finally 100% assembled, I can say all dimensions and fastening points were meticulously crafted. The floors in our kids bedroom are not perfectly flat, so I added some very thin felt pads for leveling, in addition to using the manufacturer provided wall anchor support. Most items like this drive me nuts due to the unending struggle of getting everything to fit, but this item did not. I finished assembly a few hours ago, and I'm still thinking about how well it was made. ... show more

  • Not a very sturdy and strong design but beautiful in appearance
Color: Grand Walnut Finish
Assembly: When we were putting this together it became clear pretty quick that this wasn't very easy to assemble. You have to slide a lot of the front pieces along the front until they connect with each other, but the pieces don't slide very easily and require considerable effort and even hammering to get the pieces to slide. There are dowel-like connectors that connect the top and the bottom and getting the top half and the bottom half to fit on top of each other flush was very challenging and even now there is a slight gap between the top half and the bottom half in terms of the sides. Also, once you get it somewhat assembled, when you go to lift it up, it wants to fall apart where the top half connects to the bottom half. Structure: Each panel is a kind of engineered wood as advertised. It's a kind of particle board with the walnut finish. When I used a flathead screw driver to try and slide the rails up, I observed the particle board crumbling away with any kind of prying force. The "dowels" holding the top and bottom together are fairly small and the thickness of the boards holding the main structure together are about 11/16" thick, so they're not very thick for the height of the structure. The back paneling is extremely thin and nails to these 11/16" boards and in some cases share the boards and barely overlap. Some of the small nails work fine along the borders, but in some areas such as the area between the top and the bottom, they share only a small portion of the 11/16" board crossing the middle, not giving a lot of edge space to nail to. Worst of all, the structure seems fairly wobbly, especially between the top and bottom halfs and they don't attach to each other very well. Appearance: It does have a nice walnut-like appearance when it's done, so it does look nice if you can manage to get it put together. The shelves themselves look especially nice due to their extra thickness. Also the front framing around the edges also look nice as well. Overall: This shelf is not the best if you want really good structural integrity, but it should work fine in low-traffic areas with low usage or wear. You might need a little patience putting it together, but once it's done, it does look nice. ... show more

  • Great.
Color: Grand Walnut Finish
I really like this bookshelf. It is so nice the color is lovely and it’s tall and has plenty of space. One of the pieces to the top come broken in two but I built it anyway because it was just a decor piece. The wood to the sides wasn’t as stable as it should have been and it cracked the wood when it was being flipped over on the last part of installation. I’m so upset by this. Some parts came chipped also but I didn’t mind. If these things were okay it would have been such a great and amazing bookshelf. Really just wished the sides had more stability and that one piece didn’t come broken. ... show more
