This bookcase/footboard looks nice after assembly. You may need two people to assemble it. The package came in a timely manner and no dings or dents on pieces. The instructions were clear enough. My issue with this bookcase is as soon as we moved it in the nursery our arlo baby monitor started giving us notifications that the air quality of the nursery was not safe, indicating VOC (volatile organic compounds) in the air. I unplugged the monitor already and restarted it but it’s still showing the same undesirable air quality. The bookcase is not even by the monitor and is actually on the other side of the room in the nursery closet. According to the arlo monitor it can detect hydrocarbons such as methane, iso-butane, carbon monoxide, hydrogen and ethanol in the air. We will probably have to move it to another room and need to buy another shelving unit.

Easy to assemble solo, but time consuming. It is just the right height for the toddler and all his books and toys. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I suppose they're as sturdy and heavy as particle board can be. I wouldn't say they are easily tipped over, but (luckily) my toddler has not attempted to climb them. With all tall furniture like this, mounting to the wall is always a good idea. And they come with the hardware to do so. Overall, this bookshelf has been a great addition to our mini man cave. They have held up perfectly in the last 6 months with toddlers playing near and in them, yes in, they like to sit in the bottom portion. And they've also held up with a few room re-arrangements.

**6 Year Update**!!! We’ve had this piece in our daughters bedroom for 6 years now. Surprised (but not too surprised!!) to see it’s still available for sale. That’s a long time for one product to be available for sale. What typically happens with these Amazon product listings is there will be a few too many negative reviews and the seller will delete the listing and create a new one. That has not happened with this toy organizer/bookshelf. And I know why! It’s awesome. The top two compartments are for book storage and are the perfect depth/height for all of my daughters books. From board books to big books of children’s stories to chapter books. The bottom storage is for toys. We have tried to do one compartment for stuffEd animals and one for toys. It has worked out brilliantly. Stating the obvious. This is particleboard with veneer attached. This is not solid hardwood that your grandfather built. However, we moved last year and it survived the move completely intact and very solid. Unlike many of our IKEA pieces of furniture that literally fell apart and had to be thrown out. You can trust that this piece of furniture will last several years and at least one move. We are fans!

I am usually pretty happy with everything I get from Amazon and rarely write reviews. I had to post a review on this. I ordered the first one and it arrived in excellent shape, my husband put it together pretty quickly, looks great and will hold a ton of stuff. We ordered another one a couple weeks later to add more storage space and I was so sad that the top part arrived cracked and chipped. I was thinking how on earth am I ever going to ship this 80#+ beast back to amazon etc etc? I had a thought of calling the manufacturer, Sauder. The 800 # is printed on the instruction booklet. I called them at like 8pm and was directed to go to thier website. People-literally about 5 mouse clicks resulted in Sauder mailing me FREE of charge, Free of hassle a replacement for the top portion that was cracked. I completed the online request on Wed and got confirmation that it had shipped today. I am so impressed with the simplicity of the requesting and receiving the replacement piece I just can't get over it. Nothing is that simple. But this was. So my new replacement piece will arrive in a couple days, and i'll be able to put it together no worries. So just know if you order from here, and your piece happens to be cracked, you can get a replacement piece for free and in short order from Sauder. The thing was packaged very well and our first one arrived w/o a mark! Anyway, just wanted to share--super cute storage piece, looks great, and the customer service from Sauder knocked my socks off!

I was shocked at how great this ended up being. The pieces were shipped so tight, there was no room for sliding or damage during shipment. It put together well and is very sturdy. The design of the piece is of better standard than most, they paid attention to detail which really makes it looks nice. I would buy again! Update 5/2019- 2.5 years + later, this has healed up perfect, even with moving twice and being in a playroom! No scuffs, no wobbles nothing bad to say about this. May even consider buying another.

An amazing value- it's a lot larger than I thought and a great piece. Nice quality but at this price point, I don't have to be freaked out if the kids happen to tear it up a bit. It took my husband about 30-45 minute to put together. It does seem very top heavy and wish it came with a wall mount strap. You'll need to get one. But great, great piece.
