This item is almost excellent, but it has a design flaw as manufactured. The only supports for the shelves are metal dowels, and as a result the whole thing wobbles in a terrifyingly severe way once assembled. You can fix this by reinforcing the shelves. We did this by installing 1-1/2 in double-wide corner braces to the outer under or top side of the 2nd and 4th shelves, and 3/4in corner braces to the inside of the 3rd, 4th and 5th shelves. Once it’s reinforced, it’s a great product. Without reinforcement, I give it 2 stars for dangerous insecure construction. With thorough reinforcement, 5 stars. It’s a really cool piece of furniture and it holds a lot of books, it just needs a little more work to be structurally sound. ... show more

Although these bookcases are not made of real wood, they are still a charming addition to my living room, and they hold lots of stuff (I bought two), making my living room much more organized and pretty. My son-in-law did most of the assembly by himself, and it took him about 45 minutes for each bookcase. The only assembly glitch came with the first bookcase, when we discovered one of the panels did not have the correct holes pre-drilled. We called the customer service number and told them the problem, and they immediately sent out a replacement panel. Their customer service was A+. ... show more

Overall I like this unit. The laminate has a printed distressed wood pattern on it which I don’t love. Based on previous reviews, I thought it would look better than it does. I chose to not use the backing piece because it was especially fake looking. But I was able to get over that, and I like the look for the price. This is a gorgeous book case ! The craftsmanship was done on this piece is absolutely stunning ! Great shelf useful for organizing the office l, living, kitchen or bedroom. However, assembling it was very difficult...some of the parts were not labeled and the instructions were a tad confusing. I had to disassemble and reassemble the bookcase three times, to try to figure out how it is put together. I would highly recommend asking for assistance with regards to putting this together. Love this bookcase, it holds tall books and it’s deep. Very sturdy and doesn’t look like laminate, though it is. Be warned, it takes a long time to put together and can be frustrating to do so. Not an easy assembly, but if you know what you are doing it can be done.
