It's super lightweight. I don't know what wood it's made from but it doesn't seem to be beechwood because I have a beechwood hammer and it looking nothing like it. Pay attention to the other reviews when they say "I thought it would be bigger" it's very small one could say it's a child's toy because that's what it looks and feels like. ... show more

Nice heavy mallet BUT… The head isn’t solidly connected or glued to the handle. So you’re pounding along, And the next thing you know, you reach back and the hammerhead goes flying off your shoulder! Forewarned is forearmed!
