This device functions well and looks good doing it. I would not say that it is a "necessary" device to have but I like the convenience of just setting it down and letting it do its thing. I currently have it placed on my bedside table to allow quick access to my phone during the night. The charger operates through induction and when placing the phone (S6) on it it recognizes the device and begins charging. At this time the charger lights up a light blue color indicating that charging has started. Once the phone is charged the charger light turns green and eventually turns off (I believe it turns off as some battery power is consumed and the phone needs to be re-placed on the pad to re-initiate charging). The lights are subtle and do not bother me one bit. If the phone is miss aligned the charger's blue light will blink. This indicates that the phone should be picked up and replaced to re-start the charging process. The placement of the device is important. Miss alignment results in failed charging after only a couple of minutes. I have found the phone should be centered on the pad with the phone's camera almost resting on the edge of the circle of the pad. This has given me no problem when placed in this manner and now that I know were to place it, I can get it there every time. The charging is not as fast as the included quick-charger for my S6 but not having to plug it into a wall every night is nice. Plus if I need the phone I have no cords to deal with. To plug in my phone to the wall I would have to go across the room (not far but when you are half asleep it can feel far). The plug by the bed is behind the night stand and bed itself and is not easy to get to. Now, I have this charger plug in all the time so I can get power with out the hassle. Pros: -No more trips across the room to see what the last email or text was. -Easy to use and does its job well -Matches the look of my phone well. -No dealing with cords connected to my phone. Cons: -Expensive compared to other charging pads. (Full price is $50 if you can get it for less like me then it is worth it) -I must mention that this charging pad does come with an AC adapter that many of the cheaper ones don't. -Until you learn the proper placement for charging, miss alignment can be an issue. Over all I am glad I got this charging pad. The ease of use and convenience of having it right by me at night far outweighs the slight annoyance of miss aligning the phone. It is not a "must have" but it is a nice to have. I also should comment on many of the 1-star reviews here. This is not a wireless battery back-up pad. The pad is powered by the wall outlet which then wirelessly transfers the power to your device. Power is needed so Samsung's marketing this as being a cord free solution only applies to the phone. You don't magically get power from this by setting your phone on it, physics still applies here. As I said though you keep this plugged in and then you never deal with cords again for your phone.

I have only had this product for 48 hours but it is one of the best electronic devices I've ever purchased. It works exactly as advertised. I put my phone on it, it lit up my phone started charging and it has been working great ever since. I purchased this because I have had a galaxy s4 and more recently a galaxy s6, both of which always have problems with the Micro USB port. Its difficult to line up properly and the chargers always break at that area. I cannot guess how many Chargers I have gone through already. I am hoping that this one if it continues to work well will solve that problem. It seems to work well through my case. I have a spigen slim armor, and my husband has an OtterBox Commuter, and it seems to work just fine with both of those. It is sleek in appearance, and takes up minimal room and desktop or an end table. You do have to pay attention where you place your phone when you put it down. But it's easy to tell by the lights when it's placed correctly, and if it's not correct, a slight nudge is all it takes to get it in the right spot. Compared to the issue I had with the Micro USB ports, this is not an issue at all. For example, I had a folded up piece of tissue holding my last USB cable in its correct position. It does charge slightly more slowly than the wire version from Samsung, maybe about 10% more slowly, but it's a small price to pay for having it charged correctly every time. It lets off minimal ligt, as I have it in my bedroom at night and it is absolutely not disruptive to sleep. If this product continues to work as well as it has so far, I will probably get one or two more to place around my home and office. So far I have nothing bad to say about this fantastic product.

I bought two of these: One for my mom and one for myself. She has a Samsung S9 and I have a Samsung S8. We both have the same exact Otter protector on our phones. The charger I gave her does not properly charge my S8 through the protective Otter case, forcing me to remove the outer layer; otherwise, it charges for maybe 1 minute and then it stops, for whatever reason. Once I remove the Otter outer layer, it charges my phone normally. Regarding my mom's S9, it works perfectly. She's been able to charge it twice already and she does not have to remove the protective case at all. Concerning the second charger, it charges my S8 through the Otter case without any problems. I have no idea why the other charger seems more temperamental. The reason why I'm not giving it 5 stars is precisely for the fact that one of the chargers works with my S8 and the other one is extremely temperamental. It charges the phone even faster than the wired charger that came with the phone from factory. The main reason why I wanted a wireless charger is because both my mom and me got tired of the wires. Being able to just place your phone on a disk about the size of a mug coaster is so much easier and convenient. The only thing to keep in mind is that you have to place it in the appropriate position, making sure the phone is centered on the disk; otherwise it won't charge. I also gave it 4 stars for traveling, only because the original charger is indeed smaller than this disk and, for my own personal preference, seems easier to carry around in a purse or little bag for keeping all of your phone accessories together. The wireless charger disk is of course bigger and, therefore, more cumbersome to fit in a purse or charger and phone accessories travel bag. Either way, I don't see myself carrying it that much. I bought this charger with the goal of keeping it on my desk at work so I can conveniently place it on it for charging instead of having to deal with yet another wire on my already cluttered work desk. We have only had these chargers for a couple of days so far. Not sure how long they will last. I've seen people saying they still work after a very long time and other people complaining that they stopped working within a couple of months of buying them. We'll see. Overall and so far, happy with my purchase and excellent Amazon delivery service. (In case you were wondering, we both have Otter Defender cases on our phones.)
