The Samsung Galaxy S20, refurbished and sold in "Renewed" condition, received mostly positive reviews from its users. Many complimented the phone for being essentially spotless with no lags, and a battery life that comfortably lasts 2-3 days. However, customers reported dissatisfaction with elements such as the included charger, difficulty with certain network providers, and the lack of recent Android updates. A few customers also faced issues related to the missing SD card slot in some versions.

Pros

  • 💎 Excellent physical condition
  • ⚡ No lagging issues
  • ⏳ Long battery life

Cons

  • ⚠️ Sub-par included charger
  • 🗼 Difficulty with some network providers
  • 🔄 Lack of Android updates on some phones
  • 💾 Absence of SD card slot in certain versions

Should I Buy It?

The refurbished Samsung Galaxy S20 appears to be a good bargain, with its excellent condition and performance. However, to ensure a smooth experience, it is advised to check for specific requirements like an SD card slot, Android update availability, and compatibility with your network provider before buying. Plan to replace the included charger with a more efficient one.

  • Still holding it down like a champ
Size: 128GB Color: Cosmic Gray Service provider: T-Mobile Product grade: Renewed
I bought this phone a while ago thinking I’d upgrade in a year. It’s been way longer than that and I still haven’t. Why? Because this thing refuses to die. Battery life? Still decent. Not “two days straight” decent, but enough that I don’t have to live next to an outlet like a phone gremlin. The screen? Stupid nice. Everything looks crisp and buttery smooth. I scroll through apps I don’t even use just because it looks cool at 120Hz. Camera? Way too powerful for someone who mostly takes blurry pics of their food and accidental front-facing selfies. Still, every once in a while I take a photo that makes me question if I should become a travel influencer. It’s fast, it still runs everything, and it hasn’t exploded yet. That’s a win in my book. If you’re on the fence about grabbing one used or keeping the one you’ve got—trust me, it’s still got fight in it. ... show more

  • Works on Visible Cell Plan
Size: 128GB Color: Cloud Blue Service provider: Unlocked Product grade: Renewed
I got this phone on refurb from seller Macalegin. They really know how to rate their phone condition, because I ordered "excellent" condition and that's what I got in the mail. Plus everything functions correctly and they even respond back to e-mails, because I wanted clarification whether I was going to get an unlocked phone with the sim card/expansion memory tray. They replied back the next day and said they physically checked that yes I'm getting the unlocked Samsung Galaxy phone with both tray slots. Macalegin also sends the correct 2.0 A Samsung fast charger and USB cable, unlike other vendors that send the cheaper after market charger/cable that doesn't do the fast charge. There seems to be some confusion on whether the Samsung Galaxy S20 works with Verizon's mvno (mobile virtual network operator) Visible. So let me provide some visibility to this unclarity. Sorry for the pun, I couldn't help it 😊 The US factory unlocked Samsung S20 has the designator SM-G981U1 and works on the big three: Verizon, ATT, and T-Mobile, as well as their mvnos. US carrier specific models will have the designator SM-G981U and you must verify with the vendor that they are indeed unlocked. Verizon has their own variant SM-G981V with less RAM 8GB, instead of the factory 12 GB, and the tray only has 1 sim card slot, compared to the factory model that has the sim card slot AND an expansion memory card slot. Markets outside of the US have the designator SM-G980, SM-G981B, and SM-G981F. Canada is SM-G981W, China is SM-G9810, and Korea is SM-G981N. These models may only operate on 4G LTE and have 8 GB RAM, depending on which one you get. The Galaxy S20's debut is March 2020, so keep in mind that this phone is getting a little long in the tooth technology wise. But it still does the basics well and is a rare beast in that it still has memory expansion if you take lots of pics or download huge pdf files. I installed the Visible sim card in the factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy S20 today, connected to wi/fi at McDonald's (thanks McDonalds free wi/fi), checked and installed updated software, opened the Visible app to activate the phone, and then restarted the phone. Everything works like a champ!! Two pics are included to show Visible locked onto the 5G signal without issue. Don't forget to call your voice mail and set that up also. Updates work good and Im currently on Android 13 OS. The only issue I noticed so far is that the voice mail icon that shows you have voicemail is missing in the top left corner, so you have to check your voicemail if you missed a call. Final thoughts: Make sure you get the correct phone sent to you, because there are different variants of this model that may or may not work with your cell provider. • Ensure service in case you need to return!
Size: 128GB Color: Cosmic Gray Service provider: Unlocked Product grade: Renewed
I ordered the unlocked version and received an unlocked T-Mobile version that is not supported by StraightTalk. I did not find this out until after I removed the tempered glass screen protector and threw away the packaging, so I will likely not receive a full refund for the phone. Buyer beware - do not throw away the original packaging or alter the phone in any way prior to getting service worked out. Learn from my lesson! Otherwise, I love the S20 5G and keep ordering refurbished/renewed ones when they go out (for reasons that are fully my responsibility). It is a great phone and very reliable even despite the newer generations improving features here and there. ... show more

  • Works okay, missing some features, Verizon won't help, now I'm out of luck
Size: 128GB Color: Cosmic Gray Service provider: Unlocked Product grade: Renewed
Update March 2023: Verizon really does not want to help you if you do not buy the phone from them. They don't care if it is missing features, even if you are a 25-year customer, because you did not buy it from them. That is what I am dealing with now. In my initial review I indicated you have to visit a store to finish setup because that's what I was told through a Verizon chat. They did swap out the SIM card , but could not do anything else. I was told they do not do any software flashing, they are not even sure what that means, and there was nothing they could do at the retail store to help me. I had to call the call center again which I literally did from their parking lot because I told them it was the second time I had visited a store and they're representative had told me to go to the store! I spent 2 hours working with, or on hold with, the call center, and still did not get the correct functionality! They really don't care and don't want to help you unless you pay the astronomical amount of money to get a phone directly from them. My phone still drops calls, does not always call out, does not have voicemail, and does not have the spam filtering. So now I am stuck with either living with that, or paying to upgrade to another phone. The whole reason I bought this one off Amazon is because it still has the micro SD slot and that is what I want. I'm going to try to make it work, I'm very upset with Samsung that they are doing away with the SD slots and hope someday they will bring it back. The bottom line for me is the phone works okay. I have to dial in to get my voicemail now and had to have all of that reset, there is no voicemail icon. There is no way for me to know I have a voicemail I just have to call to see if I have any messages. So if you are okay with a phone that doesn't quite have perfect functionality, then this is a great one. It is decent for the money. If you want a phone that works just like one you would get from the store, bite the bullet and spend the money and go to Verizon. I have gone to two stores, I have done one chat, and been on the phone with them, multiple agents, for over 2 hours. Apparently this is as good as it's going to get for this phone. Feb 23 initial review: I read a few of the reviews, somehow I miss the part where if you get a phone off of a site like amazon, you do still have to take it into your provider for setup? My provider is Verizon. I happened to go in there yesterday and said I had a different phone (had both with me) they told me just to move the SIM card and the SD card over and they did not have to do anything. Today only half of the phone functions, and through a chat they told me I have to come in to have their software flashed onto the phone. I was already there and took the time to drive there and wait etc, only to find out that was not necessary. Now it is necessary because the phone doesn't function correctly. Hopefully once that is done it will be fine. Facial recognition does not work as well as I had thought it would. I will probably erase and try again but it consistently does not recognize my face. I did try to put a screen protector on and I adjusted the touch sensitivity but the phone still did not recognize a touch so I had to take that off. I'm a little nervous about having a screen without a protector I am a Samsung Galaxy lover, I have the s4, the s5, and the s9. I stuck with the s20 because it has the SD card slot. So far so good, there are some things I don't like about the phone, but it's a good value for the money so far ... show more
