This shoe is like a high top running shoe but with better sole. The heel is square, not rounded, so descending dirt, scree or soft snow is secure. I have rock climbed with them up to Yosemite Grade 5.6 although not technically a rock shoe. This is my third pair and they last a good season as I am hiking or climbing about 5 days per week as a professional. The waterproofing allows feet to stay dry when walking through wet/dewy grass. They are also good for running on mountain trails and off-trail terrain. The nylon web lace guides do wear through but the shoes are pretty much used up at that point.

I absolutely love these boots and am asking myself why I didn't try them earlier. I actually bought the boots after buying and loving a pair of the Salomon Men's X Ultra Pioneer hiking *shoes* (both shoes and boots are pictured side by side below). The shoes are extra comfortable too, and both the shoes and the boots have everything I'm looking for: great fit, very good stability, a durable feel, lug-nut treads and a superior lacing system. Plus they really look great. The boots required only a couple of break-in days, and then they felt like I've owned them forever. I haven't put the waterproofing to the test yet but am preparing to do that next month on some extended hikes in the Lake District of the UK. Overall I'm incredibly happy with these boots and would definitely recommend them. BTW I'm a men's size 11M and that's the size I ordered. The fit is just right.

I purchased this online without trying it on but used "Prime try before you buy". when I first put them on they felt a little snug, but not too tight and not loose, so I kept them and wore them to work. By the end of the day, they had really settled in and fit perfect! they are very lightweight, with a great tread and look good too! I will definitely buy these again!

Got these puppies on sale for my size for only $89!! Heard good things and they function well. Waterproof to a point which is great but they don't breathe because of it. My feet run pretty hot so I think a non-waterproof version may have been a better selection for me personally.

These were initially purchased for hiking in Africa and my son liked them so much they are now headed with him to National Jamboree. He has a pretty wide foot and these fit him great. Nicely constructed boot and don't regret this purchase at all.
