Description

Up in the opulent celestial capital of the Lofty Realm, the spoiled harvest goddess Sakuna whiles away her life in luxury, resting on the laurels of her late parents. Below in the Lowly Realm, a vicious mountain bandit chases a group of desperate humans to the edge of a cliff. A bridge between the two realms appears, and it is there that Sakuna crosses paths with the "children of men." In the commotion that follows, the goddess and the waylaid mortals cause a great explosion that earns them the ire of the celestial ruler, Lady Kamuhitsuki. She exiles them to Hinoe Island, a mysterious place bordering the earth and heavens that Sakuna's parents once called home, and commands them to reclaim the aptly titled “Isle of Demons” from the clutches of a monstrous horde. As the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess, Sakuna will rediscover her birthright in this untamed wilderness by weathering the elements, fighting monsters, and cultivating the soil. And by helping their immortal protector, the humans banished with her may yet find the reason to live that was stolen from them in the war-torn Lowly Realm. Together, these unlikely companions must join hands to tame both the soil and the demons of Hinoe Island. 'Divine Edition' contains a 3-disc soundtrack, a large 130pg artbook measuring 8.2” by 5.8”, and a Japanese omamori charm measuring 2” by 3”, all packaged within a custom box with exclusive illustration.

  • Sakuna of Rice and Ruin is Art Come to Life
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
Sakuna of Rice and Ruin is beautiful, plain and simple. This gorgeous game has beautiful artwork, a beautiful soundtrack, and a beautiful story. The love and care that was so delicately and purposefully poured into this game seeps out of every detail. It feels through every step like the developers and creators wanted this game to be as enjoyable, fun, and breathingtaking as possible. You play the game as Sakuna, a rice goddess who has been cast out of the godly realm for, frankly, being a spoiled rotten entitled brat. Now, she’s tasked with maintaining a rundown farm and growing rice, something that she’s never had to do before despite being a rice goddess. The game’s progression and method of teaching you how to grow rice is so natural and easy, it’s honestly refreshing. You really feel yourself grow and learn alongside the main character. It’s not just a farming sim though, as the better you grow your rice, the stronger Sakuna becomes, and you must harness that strength to defeat the demons haunting the area and discover the mystery behind their malice. The side characters are all so enjoyable, and have just as much depth as Sakuna does. The more I played this game, the more I fell in love with each and every one of them. There is not a single character I disliked in the entire game, and that’s quite a feat! I’d love to give this game a perfect score. Buuuuut it does have the occasional glitch or two. Made by a considerably smaller studio, (who deserve a lot of praise all on their own!) it’s natural to expect a few glitches here and there. Some were small, like a graphical glitchy leaf covering up a characters face for a moment, but others were unfortunately much larger, like the game crashing after a boss fight or enemies going out of bounds and being unable to defeat, causing you to have to restart the level. Thankfully, the game’s save system is really forgiving and generous, and no glitches hindered my experience too much, they could just be annoying. If you get the chance, PLEASE play this game. Maybe you have some extra holiday money or eShop cards, or maybe you just wanna take the chance, I promise it’s worth it. This game does not disappoint, and I look forward to playing it again and again as the years roll on. 9.5/10 ... show more

  • Secret of Mana meets Rune Factory....in Japan
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
5 stars for the original concept alone. It brings something new to the farming sim genre that has been repetitive and stale to me for a while. The scenery and music are amazing. It’s a good game for people who like games like Rune Factory (farming sim and action aventure hybrids). The Divine edition was worth the extra money to me. The soundtrack is beautiful, traditional Japanese music. The art book is much better than expected. The charm bag is a nice bonus. You can adjust the difficulty setting for fighting and farming, so it can be suitable for kids too. My 5 year old has made it pretty far on the easy setting to put it in perspective. I look forward to further releases by the small team that made this. Other farming / action adventure games in other foreign lands would be nice (Norse, Mayan, Egypt, the moon....so many possibilities). The regular edition is priced $20 less than a AAA title, which seems fair considering this isn’t exactly Zelda BOTW. But it’s a groundbreaking game I’m it’s genre for me concept wise, and it’s the best indie game I’ve played by far. ... show more

  • The game doesn't take you by the hand and lead you... if you like that, then this game's for you.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
First of all, the graphics for this game are stunning on the big TV screen. And of course, nearly every game looks good in hand held mode on the switch, and this one is the same. Now, this game, at least for me, has been a little difficult figuring out. This game kind of just throws you in and lets you go with not very much guidance. My first crop of rice only yielded 55 percent of its potential yield. They just give you some seeds and say, "Plant!" That's it... the rice is important to the game because it makes Sakura more powerful, and allows your life bar to recover after a hit. If you run out of rice, each level you go to has enemies, which can damage you in your fights, and you don't recover any health once you get hit. If you have rice, then you can recover health and extend your stay on each level. Simple as that.... but still, this game is a 2D platformer and I still can't quite figure out how to reach the levels further out beyond the first 4 initial levels that you have to defeat. I haven't played this game that long, so I'll eventually figure it out. Have fun! ... show more

  • A beautiful game that's MADE for Switch
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
Let me get this out of the way first: it *runs* on Switch. A lot of people complain about the audio, and there are definitely slowdowns and stutters. However, the gameplay is a perfect blend of farming, fighting, looting, crafting, upgrading, all packed into easily digestible "days" in the game. Each day can be as quick as 5-10 min, which just feels like it was MADE for the Switch. It's so easy to pick this game up, play for a bit, then put it down again. There are also just as many times where I can't put it down and will play for hours straight. Definitely recommend the game! ... show more

  • Great special edition, worth the extra $20
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, I plan to finish age of calamity first. This special edition though is amazing! While I've never cared for the CDs included, I love art books! This art is full of beautiful and cute illustrations and really shows the love and care that went into everything. The charm is pretty nice as well, it feels like high quality fabric so if you choose to place the charm on a bag or something then it seems like it would last a long time. Will update my review after playing the game. ... show more

  • Sakuna of Rice and Ruin
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Divine Edition
I was surprised how good this game is, at its core its an action platformer with rpg elements, on the side its a farming sim, you need to plant and grow rice which is connected to Sakuna's power, the better the harvest the better her stats, the depth of cultivating rice is really deep, and you need to collect food ingredients to keep everyone fed, there's quite a bit goin on in this game and I'm very pleased with it. ... show more
