  • Ok besides misleading battery information
Model: No Battery
First off, this router takes 18v Makita batteries. I don’t know why they say in the listing that it accepts “most 18-21v batteries on the market” because it definitely didn’t work with my DEWALT 20v batteries. It also doesn’t list anywhere the compatible battery types for some unknown reason and despite the image of the two batteries in the listing, it definitely doesn’t come with batteries. Once I figured out it took Makita batteries and I was able to try it, I’m pretty happy with it. On the plus side, it has dust collection, it’s pretty compact and easy enough to hold but doesn’t sacrifice power, it routs just fine (obviously depending on the bit you’re using), and is overall easy to use. It’s also cordless and brushless, which is great. And it’s actually pretty quiet for what it is. On the flip side, I hate that the power requires you to press a single button that cycles through speed settings and then round robins. I just want a dial or something that lets me easily keep my speed settings when I turn the router on and off and lets me adjust speed more quickly. The quality of the construction is also on par with what you’d expect at this price point. It’s not a top of the line build by any means, but for the price it’s good. Everything fits together and the hardware threads just fine but things like the dust collector aren’t a 100% perfect tight fit so there’s a bit of give. Overall, it’s a solid little hand router at the price point and I’ll get good use out of it for the small woodworking projects I have like making picture frames. Update: I reached out to SainSmart to ask about the right battery to use and their customer service got back to me almost immediately. They went above and beyond to help me out. Not a lot of brands out there with this level of customer service so I'm bumping this up from 4 stars to 5 stars given the level of service I received. ... show more

  • Very nice portable router kit.
Model: ‎2PCS Batteries
This is my first experience with a battery powered router, and I'm rather pleased. I selected the model that came with batteries, as I didn't want to be bothered with figuring out what batteries work with it and then ordering them if I didn't already have them. It seems other reviewers found this step difficult. Batteries aside, I really like the feel of this router. It's got a nice metal casing that feels heavy and durable. Changing bits is super easy, and it comes with everything you need for basic projects. I'm by no means an expert with wood working so I don't have a huge arsenal of professional routing tools to compare this to. But for an amateur I'm quite satisfied. I have a wired router that I enjoy, but not having to worry about finding a plug is nice when it's called for. It is a tad on the pricey side though. ... show more

  • works as it should
Model: No Battery
A nice small router that is easy to use. As other reviewers have mentioned, it only works with Makita batteries if you get the one that does not come with batteries. I was fortunate enough to have Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Ryobi and some off brand batteries laying around to try and make work. I discovered the Makita ones work in it. As far as operation, it works okay. I have better corded ones, but this being cord free is nice. Works great for smaller projects. ... show more

  • A fine tool, everything my cheap corded one isn't. Makita compatible batteries and charger.
Model: ‎2PCS Batteries
Here are a baker's dozen ways this router is better than my cheap corded 1/4 inch palm router. 1. Don't need 2 wrenches to change bits. 2. Base has cast metal frame, not flimsy plastic. 3. Base adjusts with a screw. 4. Cordless 5. Speed adjustable. This is critical for use on a router sled, because leveling bits typically are not supposed to go over about 15000 rpm. 6. Constant speed regulation. It maintains the speed you set once it enters the material it is cutting. You'll pay a lot for this feature on an angle grinder, so I was delighted to find it here. 7. It comes with a dust collection collar, to hook a small hose to. 8. Brushless motor, smooth startup. 9. Excellent instruction booklet. 10 The straight / circle guide is beefier. 11 The vertical tube on the machine is beefier. How much imprecision was I getting because of flex in the other machine? 12. Edge attachment that rolls along the side of a workpiece for chamfering is included. Instructions said it was optional, but it was in the box. 13. The batteries and charger are Makita compatible. However the batteries don't include the data port and cutout for feeding data to a genuine Makita charger. That means you can (1) charge these batteries with the included charger (2) charge other Makita batteries with the included charger (3) use these batteries on any tool that requires Makita batteries. But you cannot charge these batteries on a genuine Makita charger. I am very happy with this tool. ... show more

  • Handy for routing drywall for electrical boxes
Model: ‎2PCS Batteries
I do home refurbishment, and got this to cut out drywall for electrical boxes and other protrusions using a downward cutting drywall bit. Dragging a cord with a corded router is both a pain, and many times the cord caught on something and caused the cut to go wide - requiring more work to fix. This works great for the purpose I got it, and I also found it useful for doing door hinge cutouts - same reason; no cord to get in the way. I only use it for short periods, so battery life has been very long, and I like that this comes with an actual slide in charger instead of a banana charging plug that plugs into the battery like some other non-major brands. ... show more

  • Nice little palm router
Model: ‎2PCS Batteries
This is a great little palm router. I've used it several times with no complaints. Has plenty of power and works well. It is possible if you're doing something like flattening a table with a jig you'd run out of battery, but for most routing jobs, I think the battery life is more than enough (I actually haven't had to recharge it yet). It is easy to use and a convenient size and form factor. Not having to plug it in adds to the flexibility and convenience. Has a nice speed control as well as standard accessories. Nothing bad to say about this really, it is a nice tool. ... show more
