These are very well made I think. I use them as plant stands indoors, I feel they are nicely decorative. I like the double coin "good luck" design. The top center is pretty flat. The edge rounds down slightly. I have no problem with plants sitting on the top. I included an image with a foot long ruler lying across the top, and one with a plant on it. Ordered this little stool to use as a bedside table in a redecorated bedroom. We went from shabby chic in this bedroom to more contemporary look and downsized the furnishings. The stool arrived well packed and it's very attractive. It will hold a bottle of water, a book and a pair of glasses comfortably. It is 17 1/2" high and works well with a now lowered bed (25") high.
