  • Worth the read... Sabrent support saves the day!
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
Disclaimer, this product didn't actually work for me, but I am rating it 5 stars anyway due to the after sales support from Sabrent. I purchased this product to read 4 sn200 u.2 drives I purchased to verify functionality before being placed in a server. If you know about older u.2 tech like the sn200, you will know that these things are insanely power hungry for a drive, consuming over 25watta on startup/run. This product did not work for me because of that, the included adapter can do a max of 24 watts. I contacted Sabrent who immediately opened a case and investigated, we are actually still working back and forth but the experience has been nothing short of incredible... Their techs worked with me and still are months later, they agreed with the issue and are in the process of creating a new product to solve this VERY specific issue even going as far as to purchase drives of their own for internal testing as they did not want to possibly damage mine when I offered them for testing. Sabrent has earned a lifelong customer out of me with this one interaction. Absolutely and seriously impressed..I did confirm functionality with data drives which was nice and the adapter itself is streamlines and smaller than others I've owned. The fast USB connection is nice too. As I said, I'd highly recommend this product even though it technically didn't work for me because of how great Sabrent has been. If you drive draws more than 24w on boot, I would also recommend to wait for the updated version to show up on the market. ... show more

  • Works well and fast!
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
This is a great little adapter! I bought this to try to read a 3.5" external HDD for which the enclosure had gone bad. At first I couldn't see the partitions on the drive, but it turned out the partition table was actually corrupted. I was able to read the files with GetDataBack software. It read and copied files to another drive, averaging about 90MB/sec, which was a lot faster than I was expecting. The nice thing about this unit is it will plug into a 2.5" or 3.5" drive, and it includes a power source for the more power-hungry 3.5" drives. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Do not buy, it doesn't work.
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
This quite literally doesn't work at all. I bought it, tried to use with 16TB 3.5" Seagate HDD, but I couldn't even initialize disk in the Computer Management / Disk Management. I was getting an error saying something like "Incorrect Function". I thought it's a problem with HDD and almost started refund with it, but then I tried to swap this SATA-USB adapter. I bought another one, **2 times cheaper** and it worked. So the problem wasn't with HDD at all. This one has a slick packaging though. Too bad it doesn't work compared to a cheaper alternative. ... show more

  • Does not work with a SATA CD/DVD/BD drive
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
This worked fine with an HDD and I expect that it will work with an SSD. But I purchased it to connect a disc drive (that I took out of a large PC that I built several years ago) to a new mini PC, and it did not work for that purpose at all.

  • Buy the powered version for best flexibility.
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
I picked this up to attempt to clone a failing disk off to a new SSD drive. No fault of the device, but my drive was far too gone to ultimately recover. But this little powered USB drive adaptor is good! Transfers that it could pull were deliciously fast. It sorts bits all through SCSI over USB protocols (if your drives support this) and is blistering in its performance. USB 3.1, etc. Is all backwards compatible, so this tool works even on older systems needing drive and data hookup and just works. Just not at higher speeds. I say to buy the powered version that comes with a plug-in wall adaptor. It will give you the best overall flexibility to run even 3½" desktop drives, the most power hungry 2½" disk drives, SSD's and any compatible electronic flash type drives. Essentially it's a transfer cable from USB-A <-> Serial ATA that really sustains 5Gb/sec and can juice the drive up to keep it active in heavier power draw scenarios. If you have a similar cable that's only a USB plug and your drive stops, restarts, or just falls offline? It was starved for power. This adaptor fixes those glitches by injecting supplemental power in through a wall wart. I'm thinking of ordering a second one... nothing easier for disk to disk cloning software, OS migration or just powering up old drives as supplemental storage without having to break into your machines and install them semi-permanently. ... show more

  • IMPORTANT IF HAVING ISSUES WITH 3.5" Connector IMPORTANT IF HAVING ISSUES WITH 3.5" Connector
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
Good new is the product works. Bad news is it took me an hour to figure out why it wasn't working. It technically explains in the manual to "Only install the drive when the power is off and the USB cable is disconnected" but doesn't make it clear how to get windows to see the drive (especially for larger drives). I was able to get it to work by connecting the HDD to the adapter first, connect the external power to the adapter, and only then connecting the USB to the computer once the drive had spun up and been running for a minute, and windows finally saw the drive. The issue is that windows doesn't see the device as a USB "device" it sees it as a hard drive. So in order for the adapter to have the hard drive's information it needs time for the drive to spin up connected to the adapter before being plugged into windows. Clearer directions in the manual would be nice but for anyone thinking their drive or adapter is broken, specifically for 3.5" drives. ... show more

  • 4TB or less only
Style: 2.5/3.5" SATA/U.2 SSD Adpater
Only good for hdd <4TB in size, 8TB+ and it doesnt spin them up, even when fed by a 10A@12V PSU. No good for nvme u.2 at any rate, but that much is my oversight.
