I recently used Rust-Oleum 249087 Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint in Matte Clear to finish off a kitchen shelf I built and stained, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. This product offers a convenient alternative to traditional brush-on polyurethane/resin/finisher of choice, with some notable differences. First and foremost, the ease of use of this spray paint is remarkable. Unlike the often cumbersome process of applying polyurethane with a brush and having to worry about the thickness of coats, this spray paint goes on smoothly and evenly with minimal effort. The ergonomic design of the can and the nozzle make it a breeze to apply, ensuring a consistent finish without brush marks or streaks. It is very user friendly. However, it's worth noting that Rust-Oleum's Matte Clear spray paint is not as thick as standard brush-on polyurethane so I really can't speak to protection level from moisture and stains for real wood. While this is not necessarily a drawback, it does mean that multiple coats may be necessary to achieve the desired level of protection and sheen. The thin application can be an advantage in some cases, as it dries quickly and allows for faster recoating. Just be prepared to apply several coats to achieve the same level of thickness and durability as a traditional finisher. Like I said, I used this on wood that will be susceptible to kitchen cleaners and cooking residue, so I'm not sure how this will hold up for that as there was no tangible difference in feel on the wood after using. That being said, it's worked so far so I'd say Rust-Oleum 249087 Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint in Matte Clear is an excellent choice for those looking for an easy-to-use alternative to brush-on polyurethane. I have been holding on to a table my wife and I bought years ago-. Well, the table had a defect in that somehow the finish was always wet. When moisture touches the table top, it somehow activates and became sticky to where napkins and paper table cloths would stick and make a mess. After many years in the garage, I decided to resurface it - take out the "defective" varnish and expose the pine wood. After sanding it completely, I then used an oil based gloss varnish, put on two coats and voila...it looked great- however, somehow I didn't like the gloss finish. I just didn't. So I got this Rust-oleum matte finish. It did not disappoint. I sprayed two coats and the table looks amazing matte. Spill water on it, whatever- and liquids wipe off and it is still a perfect surface. I would buy this again for future projects. ... show more

The inside of my metal white stove hood had gone to the dark side. Cleaning it went so-so, not great, but waaaay better than it was. Then I started cleaning the back, but it was not part of the metal hood, instead faux metal, where the light scrub revealed a blackish patch. This could not be ignored, it was totally visible from all angles. New hood, pay a professional, or... i could find a white gloss spray enamel to fix it. Having had mixed results with spray paint in the past (tend to have drips) I was apprehensive, but wanted to give it a try; hey, couldn't make it worse. Searching Amazon I found this 2X ultra cover in gloss white, read the reviews, and was pretty, well, fairly confident, I would not ruin it. Wow, no drips, zero. And really easy to use. I will say i also prepared for overspray and most especially for the fumes, since it was being used indoors (easily done prior to product delivery). There is no door to the hall so I taped a shower curtain liner over the opening. Then three sides of the hood were encased in plastic. Got the paint, read directions, and shook the can. Set up and turned on a fan to hopefully blow fumes towards slider which I opened to outdoors for ventilation. Also set ap an air purifier on high on one side of kitchen, and one in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room. Wearing a mask, the first coat was sprayed on the inside and back of the hood, from the open side of the plastic. Then repositioned the plastic to spray the other side. Waited an hour, and was happy to see about 90% coverage, and no drips, not one. Gave it a second sweep and went upstairs. Wow! it looks like new! I highly recommend this spray, great coverage and no drips...best spray paint I've ever used. ... show more

I go through so much of this stuff it’s insane. I spray paint canvas art and use this to seal them afterward. Works great and the matte finish is much nicer for my use case than the gloss. Rusto should be sponsoring me at this point with how much free pub they get in my social media. Hint hint.

We bought this to protect acrylic painting on furniture and it did the job just fine. But in our case at least, it was completely invisible in that it doesn't seem to add any gloss at all. We kept applying more coats, hoping for more of a semi-gloss, but never got it. This may be ideal for some, but for us, I think we would have been better off with the full-gloss version. In any case, the product is doing a fine job of protecting the acrylic paint, and we like how quickly it drys. One question we had is whether applying this would cause any melting/running of the acrylic paint. So to be safe, we were careful to apply several light layers. Arrived quickly, easy to use, covered in one coat. I used it to change the look of outside lighting fixtures. I live in an HOA condo and several people complained of how ugly the green fixtures were.
