Description

In the next generation sensing bilge pumps, the 500 GPH S-Series pump works on the principle of impeller resistance. The pump will turn on every 2-1/2 minutes for about one second to sense for water. If water is present, the pump will sense resistance and continue to run until all water is removed. After that, it will resume checking for water every 2-1/2 minutes. Water is kept in check between 1/8" and 3/8". Improved design and performance means that our new 500 GPH pump will produce this flow at just 12 volts rather than 13.6 volts as previously required, more typical of on board voltage supply. Our next generation of Rule pumps include check valves and to do this we've created a hidden air vent to prevent airlocking. Under each strainer tab there is a small hole that vents any air trapped in the pump housing preventing airlocks. We have true electromagnetic suppression (EMC) and have a built-in thermal cell that protects the pump and the vessel when things get too hot. These are the smallest automatic pumps on the market.

  • Quality Bilge Pump
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
This product is being used in an above floor sump and it has functioned extremely well. This is the second one I purchased as a backup for the current one I have installed.

  • Great customer service
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
The flow seemed very low since installed new. I finally got around to checking it and it was 15.5seconds to fill a 1 gallon water jug. That means it’s only doing approximately 4 gallons per minute and 240 gallons per hour. Not even close to 500gph. Voltage is good, strainer is clean and clear. I pulled the pump out of the hull and put it in a clean tub of water for testing. This is a very important product and fairly pricey to be failing so soon! Hopefully the seller will reach out and do something about this. UPDATE 3/13/23 xylem Is sending a replacement pump. ... show more

  • Not Rule pumps of the past
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
I bought this pump in July 2020 and it worked good for 2 seasons. I was getting boat ready for season and discovered it was no longer working. The pump failed to function in automatic mode but would work on manual mode. Since the pump had a 3yr warranty I contacted customer service and emailed them my order details from Amazon. They responded promptly with a replay that they make and ship from Mexico and please allow 4-6 weeks to receive. By then, half the summer is over for us here in northeast. I had to buy a new one from West Marine to get boat in water, and will now have an extra when I finally get my warranty replacement. I would have preferred Rule (XYLEM) sent me a voucher to purchase a new one immediately rather than wait 4-6 weeks for a major item needed for boating. ... show more

To pump water out of my 30 foot sailboat when it rainS

  • Will last two years. Overpriced by a third.
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
It's automatic. I use it in the sump in the aft of my 13ft Boston Whaler Super Sport which stays in the water behind my sailboat. Be sure to keep leaves, paper and anything that rain can wash back into the sump from doing so. It will clog the pumps impeller, blow the 4amp fuse and a long period of rain could easily swamp your boat. My Whaler won't sink but the heavy 40hp 4 stroke could partially submerge and cause the boat to capsize. The auto function works by closing the electrical circuit in the pump every 5 minutes activating the motor momentarily. If there's no water inside the bottom of the pump, the impeller spin freely with no resistance and immediately opens the circuit from the battery, shutting the pumps motor off. If there's water in the sump and bottom of the pump there will be resistance on the impeller and motor keeping the circuit closed and the motor pumping water till the impeller again spins freely, opening the circuit. Contrary to common misconception, there is no float switch built into the pump. They do as designed if maintained, but at a steep price. ... show more

  • Works great so far
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
One thing people should know is that it detects the presence of water by running the pump. If there is no load on the pump, it decides there no water and turns off. It turns on about once every 2.5 minutes for about 1 second. This probably doesn't apply to any of you, but I installed this in an antique 1956 Lyman Islander wooden boat. It has a 6 volt positive ground electrical system. Therefore, I had to mount a separate 12v battery. I chose a 6 Amp-Hour Lithium battery pack. It pumped a good amount of water as a wooden boat leaks a lot when you first launch. I also ran my fish finder/depth sounder off it. In three weeks, the battery has not been drained. So power use doesn't seem to be a problem. Sorry the pic doesn't actually show the pump, but it does show the little battery I'm using to power it. It has a wire for controlling it manually. I put a momentary switch it for forcing it to run. This is a great feature. The automatic works so well I have never needed it, but I can use it to check the battery voltage because I added a volt meter to the circuit to check to see if the battery needs charging. All in all - great pump. Easy to clean, quiet, pumps lots of water. ... show more

  • Great pump when it works.
Size: 500 GPH Style: 12 Volt Pattern Name: Pump
Great product. Pump turns on for a second every 2.5 minutes, detects if it moved any water and continues till bilge is dry, then repeats the process. like any bilge pump, the challenge is to keep it from corroding. These units typically don't survive the warranty period so keep your receipt. Problem is the shaft seal eventually allows vapor into the electronics' area and the circuit fails. I keep a spare pump. The bilge is kept down nicely, so how water vapor gets in is a mystery. I've cut the unit apart and the copper corrosion is apparent. Unit is al but bullet proof. An expensive solution is to cut apart a new unit, pull the motor out and connect the motor wire and ground from the failed unit to the new unit you have cut and mounted in a dry area. You will be connecting the new unit's always on wire and the intermittent wire to the motor wire from the failed unit. Eventually that motor will fail, but there may be a way to connect one of the spare motors ... show more
