I was shopping for woodworking tools when I was offered the opportunity to try this corner chisel; I was in the middle of the perfect project for this tool and figured I would give it a try. Although I have plenty of chisels, I did not have a corner chisel before trying this one… I just used a standard chisel to finish out the rounded corners created by the router. This chisel is solid and works great, I like that it has a metal striker for creating clean, crisp, corners in a single blow. I needed to recess mounting brackets into the bottom of a slab of sycamore and used a router to create the cavity that the bracket would drop into. This corner chisel made quick work of squaring the rounded corners created by the router; each corner (there were 20 of them) only took 1 strike from the hammer to create the corner. Hard to decide whether I appreciate the time savings or the cleaner corners better. Hope this helps. ... show more

I'm generally okay with cheap tools; I've gotten some good ones from Horrible Fright that work. Compared to HF, this is pretty bad. I got it to do some mortise-tendon work. They claimed it will do cutting depth of 2.76 inches. To do that, it has to be sharp. Out of the box, it was a long way from sharp. Not quite as bad as a screw driver, but I wasn't worried about accidentally cutting myself! First, the information on the chisel. Yes, it is about 12mm/0.47inches. I measured 30/64". The chisel body is about 2.75" and about 7" overall. The initial bevel was about a 20 degree bevel. Ok, square chisels are not easy to sharpen, especially at the corner. I tried. See the picture. I started on a hard Arkansas stone and then went to a diamond bar. You can see that the thing is not well ground to start with; hollow spots, etc. I'm not sure what the 'metal' is; it wasn't that hard and the stones took it down with no problems. The one side however, would require a complete regrind to get it squared off. I don't have a grinder that would do that on a corner chisel. I tried it anyway; nope, wouldn't even do a 1/2" in oak. Not sure how they are doing 2.76 inches. It may work on door hinges and other light work but it isn't going to help me with mortise-tendon work. I'll give it 3 stars; not that good. ... show more

When I opened this I was thinking this is way too light to be of decent quality, but my initial assessment was incorrect. I tested this on some pine scraps I had just put a rectangular Mortis in 2 places and then I used it to carve out a 2 1\2" deep hole in a piece of oak. This little specialty chisel does a great job carves perfectly 90 Degree corners with just a few taps of mallet. It is plenty sharp from the package and held up well enough through my test pieces. I am not sure about being able to sharpen this to the perfect 90 when it needs touching up but I will do my best. Handle is easy to hold and has a good solid metal button on the top to distribute your strikes evenly. I don't know how hard the Steel of the blade is but it feels pretty well made. I don't do a lot of mortis cutting but it's nice to have a simpler way to make those perfect corner cuts ... show more

This Ruitool square mortise chisel is very well built. The corner blade is reasonably stiff and strong, the handle is hard rubber with a large, well ridged grip and it is topped off with a heavy steel cap. Certainly built to take the punishment and last a long time. You could use it right out of the box for rough work, but it needs sharpening to make really fine cuts (as do most new chisels). I have some diamond hones on the way to get a keen edge with. At 7" in length it will handle most mortise work. I am happy to have this chisel in my tool storage. It makes quick work of small jobs that don't require a setup on the drill press. I would recommend it for home shop do it yourselfers, homeowners and small commercial shops...and anyone else who needs it. ... show more

    • Super handy right angle chisel tool that is sharp and cuts easy
What a great idea. I needed to inlay a piece of aluminum channel into a piece of plywood. When I had my layout finished, I used this chisel to perfectly layout the corner cuts. The chisel also has a a metal cap on the handle end for hitting with a hammer. I also liked the width of the cutting edges. not too big that allowed me to work on smaller angles.     • A Fair Chisel
This corner chisel arrived reasonable sharp and it feels durable and solid. The biggest issue I have with it is that the thing is not square. One side is turned inward a little bit, which I can work with, but not being square isn't good for a corner tool. I'm not sure if I'll try to true it up or not, as I don't want to damage the tool. Otherwise, the handle is comfortable and the strike plate works as it should. While I have tried this with soft woods, and it works well within the issue noted, I've yet to see how well it performs with hard woods. ... show more

I ordered this for my husband. We are remodeling our house and I know this will come in handy when it's time for him to start on the custom cabinetry in in our pantry. This comes not very sharp. Does fine on soft wood lumber but smashes hard wood instead of cutting it. Spend more and get a good corner chisel.
