  • Why Does a Stainless Steel Item Rust so Quickly?
Had one in black. Got really rusty, so purchased this one in chrome. Three months later, it's rusting too. I'm not trying to be picky, just want to get decent value for the money. In every other way it is perfect for its use.

  • Started rusting after 2 weeks - Rubbermaid should do much, much better
What's happened to your quality protocols, Rubbermaid???? We still have an old Rubbermaid dish drainer of the exact same style, which was in a hot, humid oceanside location for TWENTY YEARS without rusting. No rust at all. Bought another one a few years back, for a different and somewhat drier locale, but it began to rust within weeks of being placed into service. It was such a mess after a while, we tossed it (before taking photos). Thought we'd try again, because the design of this drainer is still excellent -- it holds a lot of dishes, compactly. But once again it began to rust within the first couple of weeks - attached photos are after 3 weeks, and now we know from experience that this drainer will have significant rust before too much longer. If it was just unattractive that would be a drag, but the rust also stains dishes and glassware. Rubbermaid, are you listening?? PLEASE FIX THIS, IT'S AN OTHERWISE WELL-DESIGNED PRODUCT. ... show more

  • Yeah, it can rust, but...
This has been my favorite drainer for 15 years. Big, good looking (it never leaves the counter top), plenty of cup racks, well balanced, sturdy and easy to maintain. I left my old one behind when I relocated and am finally replacing it. Will it rust? The body of my former drainer never had that problem. However, the feet will rust. The nylon foot pads will collect water and hold it against the chrome plating and the plating will eventually fail. Once that happens...yeah, rust. (I filled the foot pads on this new one with a clear silicone-based caulk I had leftover from a kitchen project to prevent water from ever getting in on this one. To my way of thinking this is preferable to a vinyl-coated wire rack as vinyl, over time, can be more problematic.) ... show more

  • It will rust
The size is perfect for my old farm sink, it is sturdy. I like the chrome look, very clean but it rusts! I have to scrub it and this time we treated with clear coat to see if that will stop it. Also had to drill drain holes in the plastic feet protectors. Water collects in them and they have begun to rust too. I do not like the utensil cup it came with. It's not deep enough. I bought another one, chrome, and it rusts too. These were too expensive not to be stainless but I guess it would be double the price. Irritating but it is functional and sturdy. ... show more

  • Rubbermaid - Tried, True & The Best Bang For Your Buck $$$
It's high time Rubbermaid, THE dish drainer manufacturer, got into the Stainless Steel and/or Chrome marketplace with the most reasonably priced dish drainer of this type I have seen to date. Others would and do "soak" you $30 - $40 - $65 and even more for a product of inferior quality and one that cannot last. NO dish drainer is worth anything near those prices! I have tried a few and they all have the same problem...too little Chrome Coating that will be destroyed over about a year by the eroding qualities in your own water! You'll see the first manifestations around every "intersection" of wires as well as the plastic feet in which the wires rest. After that it's just a matter of time before it looks fairly bad and not the way you want a dish drainer of any quality to look! I bought a can of Clear Rust-Oleum and coated this one (Using the entire can for many coats) so it would last a heck of a lot longer. Unless you can mange to purchase a true Stainless Steel dish drainer that won't break the bank...I can only suggest you do the same. ... show more

  • Very poor quality
This dish rack started rusting at very joint and inside the plastic that covers the "feet" of the rack, after just a few days. Very disappointing. Will have to throw this away, the rust transfers to the dishes and cups in the rack.

  • I love it!
After reading many of the negative comments, I was glad I didn't pay attention. This is a great dish dryer, and I'm glad I bought it. Don't know if my old dish rack was a Rubbermaid, but after buying a nice silverware dryer, I realized how dull and rusty my dish rack was. The plastic silverware holder, was so disgusting and impossible to get totally clean. So, I bought the pretty silverware attachment, and stupidly cut a piece of my old rack, so it would fit. It was stupid to remove the wire from my old rack, because the new attachment just swang. I saved the cut wire and thought I could glue it back on, to hold the new silverware attachment. That didn't work, so I set out to get a new rack. I couldn't believe the prices of a new dish rack, so despite the bad reviews, I bought this rack. I don't use many dishes, but used it to dry out my frying pans and assorted things, I use frequently. I had to remove a wire in the back, to hold my pans. It didn't break or bend, and plan to spray it with clear enamel, when I get a chance. In the meantime, it looks great and is sturdy enough for me. I really think this is a quality rack, and couldn't be happier. I COULD'T RECOMMEND THIS RACK MORE! I love it!!! ... show more

  • Works fine except fot the rust.
I bought this for it's size as it fits perfectly in my sink with the top of the rack sitting at the same level as the top of my one sink, holding the bottom about 4 inches above the bottom of the sink. This eliminates the need of a drain mat that would take up room on my counter. As far as that it is fine, however while I have only been using it for about 6 months, rust is already coming through the chrome. This item would be a greatly improved by using a quality stainless steels instead of using a thin coating of chrome over the rust-able metal. ... show more
