After trying an online recipe, I bought the book The New Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking , and became hooked on having freshly baked bread. At first, I made do with with bowls and containers I already had on hand, but having decided I was going to continue making bread, I bought this inexpensive food bucket for storing the dough. I also bought the matching lid, Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG572500YEL 6- 8-Quart Lid . Together, they work great but currently, have to be ordered separately - the lid doesn't come with the bucket and vice versa.. The bucket and the lid are both sturdy. The lid fights nicely on the bucket, and the whole thing fits on one of the taller shelves in my refrigerator. When I ordered them, the bucket arrived before the lid, and I used plastic wrap to cover the bucket. That will do in a pinch, but the lid works much better and is well worth the few dollars it costs. While I am sure this bucket has many uses other than for bread dough, in my house it is in constant use as a container for both mixing and storing dough. ... show more

I make bread (from scratch, hand mixed). With these buckets, a digital scale and a serving spoon, I can measure the flour, water, salt and yeast (plus flavor adds) and mix the dough, and let it ferment (I use a no knead style). After emptying the bucket, I let the 'leftovers' inside the bucket, dry out and it flakes off making cleanup simple,. I specifically like the shape - with no 'protuberances' inside to catch the dough. Not too deep, but wider than other similar capacity buckers. And, it fits my 1000k flour batch just right. This item does not come with Lids, but I have lids from my previous buckets (same type) to use - and a slightly damp cotton towel works also). The previous buckets lasted about 4 years (with several batches a week) so I look forward to a long partnership with these. ... show more

I bought four of these to bottom water several indoor plants. They're great because you can tell exactly how much water the plant has pulled out of the buckets. Also perfect for soaking blocks of coconut fiber for soil, and mixing custom soil blends. I bought a couple of the separate lids to keep soil wet. I use this container for storing dough for bread. It's a very nice container especially if you buy the appropriate lid to go with it. Nice large capacity to allow for rising dough, and comoact enough to store in the refrigerator.

These Rubbermaid containers are great for food prep. Marinades, brine's, sauces...it does it all. You do have to buy the lid separately which just seems like a ruse, especially since the lid costs more than the container, but they work well. I couldn't find this product in a store to compare the price, but the lid and the container cost about $10 all together. They are large enough to hold about 10 pounds of chicken breasts in a marinade or a couple of whole chickens to give you an idea of their capacity and they still fit very easily in the fridge.
