My Izzy is so picky and this is one of the only ones I know she will eat no matter what. It is a good way to judge when I think she is under the weather. If she does not eat this, then I know she is not feeling well. It is super expensive but I mix it up with homemade meals, like backed chicken and veggies. Still hard to get her to eat those. She only likes rottiserie chicken. Either way, if you have a fussy fur baby try it. " She is very particular when it comes to her food, but there is one particular meal that she will always eat without fail. It serves as a good indicator of when I suspect she might be feeling unwell. If she refuses this meal, then I know she is not feeling her best. Unfortunately, this meal is quite pricey, so I try to balance it out with homemade meals such as baked chicken and vegetables. However, it is still a challenge to get her to eat those. I discovered that when I mix the wet food along with a dry Royal canin dog food, my dog not only eats daily she devours the food in one session! This food has saved us! I wish you came in larger cans!

We have struggled for years to find a food that our girl will really enjoy and is good for her. Lately after an FDA warning about dog food and heart problems with dogs, we began the search over again. Our family never jumped on the grain-free bandwagon but we did try a couple of grain free foods simply because they were recommended to us and seemed like the ingredient list was up to par. Now we know that's it's not enough to just go by a company's marketing or simply reading an ingredient list. After really researching and relying heavily on AAFCO information we decided to try this Royal Canin wet food for our Shih Tzu. First of all, our dog needs to have (and prefers) a pate' type of loaf dog food. We keep a small amount of dry food out for her to graze on but her main food source is wet food. Since she has the typical Shih Tzu facial hair, gravy or sauce based foods are difficult to clean up after. She can eat this food cleanly and not need to have her face washed afterwards. More importantly though, she absolutely LOVES this food. She can barely wait for us to cut it into small pieces before she gobbles it up. Next up, the ingredients... we were at first concerned that this food has corn flour as a thickener but would rather deal with that, than have a food that will cause heart problems later on. While the FDA report is preliminary and a lot of research needs to be done... like a lot of other dog owners we just don't want to take any chances. Finally, the price. No, this food is not the cheapest OR the most expensive you will find - but we are willing to spend a fair amount for our girl to have the healthiest food she can. We will continue to consider other foods for her but right now this Royal Canin breed specific food is a home run for us and we can't recommend it highly enough. If your Shih Tzu is picky like ours, give this food a shot. ... show more

It looked good and the texture was good but little Miss Bailey is too persnickety and has a problem with everything I try to feed her! I wish she had snarfed it down, because I thought that she would like it, since it was made for her breed... but like I said, she’s too persnickety for words!

*update: we went back to a different brand. Despite my dog loving all versions of this food, she just wasn't thriving on it. Perhaps if your dog is younger and without health issues they will do better with it. My Shih Tzu got pancreatitis. I had her on a prescription diet, which she LOVED but that can only go so far. So, we tried another brand, but she wasn't down with the kibble (I know this is for the wet ... I'll review the kibble too in a bit LOL). I picked up ANOTHER brand and it was too fatty for her. The biggest problem has been finding a food that addresses her need for lower fat and protein but doesn't make her skin itch. She gets all yeasty when she eats the wrong things. And, she has been YEASTY. She's been on this for about a week now and the scratching and licking has stopped. She LOVES the wet food and literally runs to her plate. She had to be coaxed to eat previously. So far, I'm very please with the quality of this food. It's a little pricey but ... my furbaby is worth it! Plus, I feel better feeding her something that addresses the known needs of her breed. ... show more
