It is grippy and damp without feeling soppy wet. It feels like quality material. It is great for trimming small, low things like spoonrests where lumps of clay or a trimming tool would be in the way. It is also good for draping across a rim or smaller slab of clay that is drying too fast. You can also use it to create a mini damp box with a plastic bag, just be careful that it isn't too wet. This does not have bat pin holes, so if you want to use it to quiet a loose bat you will have to cut the holes yourself. ... show more

These are just 12" circles of PVA synthetic chamois. They work like any synthetic chamois for holding down bats, but you can get identical material for a quarter the price per square foot and cut your own circles out of it, so these are pretty pricey for what they are.

I was skeptical but delightfully surprised it worked! I am a high school teacher and our wheels don't have bat pins. I didn't want my students to be the guinea pigs to have a project fling off so I put the throwing cloth through the paces. I loaded up the bat with at least a 5 pound ball of clay. It stayed stable even though I could barely cone that much clay. I throw 2 more times with out adjusting the cloth and it stayed put. One small note is to remember to center the bat on the cloth to prevent it from looking like it's off centered in the splash pan. ... show more

I'm pretty happy with this cloth. I don't use it to secure bats to my wheel but rather, I use it as a base to secure a grinding disc to the wheel. That allows me to grind any sharp bits or glaze drips off the bottom of my pots. I think it would work well for attaching bats to the wheel, though.
