  • Very nice, well built, a couple of design flaws
Got this for my son who just turned 3. He is about 40" tall (this info will be useful later). The unit is very well built and seems quite sturdy. One thing to note though is if you purchase this for use in North or South America, the warranty is only 180 days and not 3 years. My son has only been using it a couple of hours but overall he loves it. There is a learning curve to operate it properly (pushing with one hand while pulling with the other), but with time and practice I'm sure any kid could learn to use it well. This leads me to the design flaw(s). Either the operating arms are too long, or the seat needs to be farther back from the arm. I believe the seat should be farther back from the arm, since the added length of the levers helps to move the arm with relative ease. When my son sits on it, the levers are right in his stomach when the arm is up, so it is difficult for him to maneuver the levers and swing it around. An extra four inches would make a world of difference. Right now my son can't really sit on it and move it around - his legs are too short (and he has very long legs for his age). He will easily grow into it, but I'm hoping the position of the levers relative to the seat does not become a significant issue for him. Overall, I very much recommend this product especially compared with similar products on the market. It is well-built and sturdy and I believe it will stand up to years of use. ... show more

  • So cute! *Update from 5 star to 4 star
Update: So we have had this toy for about 2 days now and while my kids LOVE it, there is one flaw that drops this rating down to 4 stars. The bolt that holds the moving arm is also attached to the arm that does not move, this causes the bolt to get moved and twisted with use and falls off every so often. In 2 days of use we have had to put the fallen bolt back on 5 times. We tighten it as tight as possible without making the movable arm unmovable but this still happens. Still a fun toy but a bit disapointed that we spent $100 on a toy thats main component was not thoroughly thought through. So far so good! Purchased this for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She is obsessed with excavators right now! She will receive the gift tomorrow but everything feels sturdy and it was easy to assemble. Will update if anything changes ... show more

  • Smaller than I expected
For the price, I expected it to be bigger. Bought it for my son's third birthday and in a year I bed it will be too small for him

  • Excavator Excellence
It's durable plastic - dirt can be washed off & won't grind the wheels. Watch the arm-lock though - if the arm is up & the lock is released, the arm drops quickly & the lock snaps back. After a pinch - they'll hold their fingers back. Helpful hint...the silver caps that go on the end of the axles...put the cap on concrete floor, the axle in the cap & hit with hammer straight on. Then goes the wheel, the black tube, through the base, black tube, wheel & then silver cap. Turn it over so the loose cap is on the floor, have someone hold the contraption for you while you hit the cap on the other end. Assembly aside, my 3-year old nephew LOVED this toy. Because it will hold up to 75 lbs, it should last him a few years - better than the ones that only hold up to 45 lbs. When he saw it he said "I've been thinking about an excavator all day! This is just what I wanted!" We spent the rest of the afternoon digging up "buried pirate treasure" in the yard. Well worth the price. ... show more

  • My Grandson Loves IT!!!!!
It's not as easy to assemble. For my Grandson who is 2 and loves all big equipment this was his favorite Birthday Present. Grandma props here! Because he is 2 he won't be so rough with it and he can still grow into it. He did figure out how to use this pretty quick. If he was a little older I'd be worried on how long it will last but like I said this should last him longer because he is 2. He loves it and that is all that matters to me. He plays with it every chance he can get outside and do some digging. ... show more
