  • So I bought this....
Ordered this as a gift for my sons 3rd birthday. Package is extremely bulky and heavy; so much so that UPS had trouble delivering it. Package was beat to hell and torn open upon arrival but thankfully all that was missing was a single hub cap. Assembly instructions are not the best and after going over them you'll understand why the Germans lost the war. Assembly requires a hand full of tools, a few cups of coffee, a good understanding of reverse engineering and about 4 1/2 hours of your time. The lock peg mechanism for the support foot on the excavator is a good idea but the way its assembled will require you to completely take apart the excavator central hub and remove it; as the design for it to work is a total fail. If you order this product and can get everything assembled, your kid will love it! It's become my sons favorite toy ... show more

  • Big and sturdy toy
We recently bought this toy loader for our son's 5th birthday. It was a combined birthday present (parents+grandparents), since it is a bit expensive. We don't usually buy toys of this price. Our son had seen it on a youtube video and was fascinated with it. We ordered it and it came just fine. The box was a little torn but no pieces were missing. It is a big box and a big toy in case you live in an apartment. The back wheels and the chain were already assembled. The rest of the toy took us about 2 hours of a Saturday morning to put it together. The instructions are clear although you need to look at the photo on the box as well. You need a Philips screwdriver, pliers, a hammer and patience to assemble it. Our son loves it. It is sturdy if assembled correctly. I wouldn't recommend it for a 3-year old. It is too big and heavy to pedal. Our son will be 5 in October so he can pedal without problems. Sometimes we push him if there is an uphill. I think even for a just turned 4-year old, it is too big. The front shovel is also heavy for a small child. I would say, 5 is the ideal age to start. We are satisfied with this purchase. Our son is very happy with it. ... show more

  • Most assembly required
Bought this as a Christmas present for 2021. Assembly was fairly easy for me but I have a lifetime of experience putting things together with little to know instruction. The direction are just pictures. They do not describe the steps in any great detail. Also the parts come in several bags but nothing is labeled. I found myself using a millimeter tape measure to measure all the bolts, rods and pins. It took me about an hour to assemble. All the parts seem to be of high quality thick plastic or metal. I think my kid will enjoy this toy for a few years. The buckets and the control arms are all plastic though so there will not be any true ground breaking done with this tractor. ... show more

  • So cute- so hard to assemble
I purchased this item for my son’s 4th birthday. The assembly directions were a pain but the actual construction was not hard. The instructions came on 3 separate pages with pictures of what to do and what pieces you would be using. Each step did have a true to size picture of the screw so you could check that you had the right ones. Those small pieces did not seem to be packaged intentionally at all and locating them is what made it take the most time. If you can not assemble ikea furniture, you may want some help putting it together. Overall we are happy we bought it and my son is thrilled ... show more

  • Would it have been that hard to put decent instructions with it.
No parts list. No text. Bad pictures. A little text or much better photographs would have been helpful. Theres's one area where it would have been much easier to assemble it in a different order. Also, this toy has axle caps which can be a chore to put on by yourself because you need to drive home the one axle cap while blocking the other with a block of wood. To do the wheels you need a square block about 4"x4"x3" and for the bucket catch you need a wood block about 4" or greater unless you do it as the very first step. I think it would be difficult for a toddler to lock the excavator in place so it can be driven. We'll see when my grandson gets it. Also, the hood over the 'engine' falls off very easily when raising it. I can see that just getting left lying in the yard. We paid a discounted price because the box itself was damaged. Other than one missing nut, that was a good deal. For $300 plus, I think it's way overpriced and have my doubts about how long it will be before a little box destroys it. ... show more

  • Can't really dig!
CAT Backhoe Ride-on Toy Tractor For The Sandbox - NEW! Impressive to look at. My 4 year old was excited at first but when it couldn't actually dig or push dirt he lost interest. The plastic is just too flimsy. We have a large pile of dirt that he plays in and I thought the backhoe would be cool to dig and push the dirt, but alas it won't do it. If we got a pile of sand maybe it would do better. I moved it over to the sand box and it could dig that loose, dry sand. But who has a sand pile in their yard large enough to hold this back hoe? At first we had trouble locking the digger in place so he could drive it around. I had to contact the company to find out the trick. It is shown on a little picture next to the locking mechanism. I had missed that detail. It is pedal operated but the space is kind of small for my 4 year old to do the pedaling. He already had a battery powered vehicle so maybe pedaling wasn't so exciting for him. He did want to dig tho. What ever the problem, it just sits in the yard. He rarely plays with this toy. Maybe a younger kid, a smaller kid, one who doesn't have a battery powered 4 wheeler already, one who has a huge sandbox would enjoy this it more. ... show more

  • Assembly directions are terrible!
Good value for the price. Sturdy toy. Classic CAT yellow. My 4 year old child loves it! I will say this, the assembly directions are not very clear for anyone that does not put things together on a regular basis. I do recommend this ride on vehicle but be prepared to be confused.

  • Great costumer service
I got this for my grand baby and it was missing the rod that holds the wheels together. My son got a hold of customer service and they promptly shipped the missing part. Was sad he didn’t get to use it on his birthday but still a great gift
