Description

Reporter Omnidirectional Interview Microphone. Designed for handheld interview and presentation applications, the Reporter features an omnidirectional dynamic capsule that is designed to allow the user freedom of use, without the technique related issues typical of directional end-address microphones. An affordable electronic news-gathering microphone that still has broadcast quality. Additionally its frequency response has been specially tailored for voice reproduction, to maximise intelligibility and deliver crisp, clear results in almost any condition. The microphone features a durable die-cast aluminium alloy body coated in a discrete matte black anti-glare finish. An innovative multi-layer mesh basket protects the microphone from environmental noise without the need for a bulky and distracting foam wind shield. It is supplied with a removable microphone ˜flag' that can accommodate high- visibility branding. The Reporter is covered by R˜DE's industry-leading support guarantee, with a twelve month warranty ˜out of the box' that is easily increased to ten years free of charge, following online registration of the microphone.

  • For the Price, A Very Good Mic For Run-and-Gun Interviews
I've been using this microphone for interviews at trade shows. For the price, it's quite good. It does a nice job at isolating the voices of the interviewer and the subject. It picks up enough environmental noise that the sound isn't sterile, but I wish it picked up a bit less. After 18 months of use in sometimes rugged conditions, it has proven to be quite durable. The included microphone flag is ugly and useless for my purposes. I can't see many people making use of it. I wish Rode included a bunch of windscreens instead. That would have been a much more useful accessory. While there are microphones that sound better, the ones that I know of cost at least twice as much as the Rode Reporter. For the price, it's a good choice for run-and-gun interviews. ... show more

  • Quality in sound
Produces a well-balanced tone. I use it regularly when we sing in church. No problem in installation

  • Sounds Great, -1 Star for the Gimmicky flag.
This mic is really quite decent for the price. It stays in my camcorder bag most of the time for whenever background noise levels are off the charts (think football tailgaiting, right outside a rock show, on a trade show floor). My only issue is why in HECK Rode added that stupid mic flag. If you are going for the retro look while interviewing a Beatles cover band, put a nice CBS logo on there from the 60s. Otherwise, get a real 3 or 4 sided flag. I used a cheap plastic one found here and printed a glossy logo on white stock. SPECIAL NOTE: The diameter of the mic shaft is narrower than most handheld dynamic mics, so the mic flag may require a few wraps of tape around the shaft to stay on. Otherwise, this works fine. ... show more

  • Dissapointed
The sound of this mike is okay but not great. I used it on my H2N Zoom, and compared it with a $21 microphone, and actually the $21 mike's sound is much better. I got out better sound on the Zoom H6 with an amplifier. The sound on the Rode is kind of flat. I had to work on it in order to make it sounds good such as adding bass on Adobe Audition, but still there is not much I could get out of it. However, the cheap microphone I used (a $21 china import) wasn't as solid designed as the Rode, but had a much greater sound and bass — almost like a studio microphone. On the other hand, this microphone is just super solid, and you can't hear any cracks when moving it around. ... show more

  • This is better then other Interview Microphone.
This is better than other Interview Microphones.

  • This is a great mic!
Great mic! It looks and feels nice in the hand. The build in wind cut feature is so good, you can be standing outside on a windy day and not hear a thing. To hear wind you have to blow into the mic pretty hard. That being said, the sound quality is top notch and it picks up great. The Reporter is an omnidirectional mic, which is great for interviews, especially when you forget to aim your normal cardioid mic toward your subject. It's long enough to put a mic flag on the shaft, since you really don't want to use the goofy and awkward looking top mounted flag that comes with the mic. I use this mic with a Sennheiser SKP 100 G3 plug-on transmitter, and the sound is fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase! ... show more
