  • Better and worse than I expected. Better and worse than I expected.
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
Not my first of this kind of device. I'm amazed by the size, and general design. Its one of the better looking vacuum tube amps I've used. I like all the controls, it feels amazing. Only time will tell if its built to last, but frankly best feeling device of this style I've owned. And I have some 60-70 year old stereo equipment that is pretty excellent. The sound is clean and solid. But the ambient hum on this unit is Particularly loud in my opinion. I have a 60 plus year old unit that has a more enjoyable hum to it, more of a low thrum. If you plan on using this to listen to quiet music you will certainly grow annoyed with the hum its just too upper mid in its sound. The VU meter on mine is not working the way you'd expect, I run this primarily on optical audio. Optical and Blu tooth are what I got it for... if its supposed to work with those what you need to do is MAX the output of the device sending signal to this and turn to volume on this amp WAY DOWN. The more I putz with it the more I like it. It has the output of a much larger vacuum amp... I guess if I was to complain about features, I'd have liked this to be capable of driving a center channel without any wire fu... but for a 2.1 it is glorious. Running it on a 2 left 2 right setup as I right this driving some vintage 50 year old pioneers and Sony throw back units from 20 ears ago. The hum will not endear it to you, at least the hum of my unit... if you want to listen to music below middle volume, its overpowering. Unless you place the unit far removed from where you'll be listening to the music, and with a unit like this you want to be near it. The hum should add to the ambiance not detract. If you plan to be more than 6 ft from the unit when listening it sounds MUCH better, the tone lowers as the higher frequency sound from it is washed out. If you want to use this with a PC stereo system... its gonna be less than optimal. I like to blend white noise, so maybe I'll find this meshes well with running water, etc. I will have it in a room with at a few aquariums. Testing it on salsa, 80's rock, metal, country, classical, 90's pop. This is not the final placement for my unit. Just how I have my PC setup currently, building a bigger work bench it will reside on and will be about 1-2 ft further from my head and likely improve my enthusiasm for it. A darn perfect and pure offering. How rare is it to see something without too much feature creep these days? Very essentially what it is. EDIT: After messing with this thing for last couple weeks I found leaving it on (not playing anything, just on with no input) brought down the tone of the hum from the tubes, making it much more enjoyable. If I turn it off and then back on a day later it is a higher pitched hum again. It is actually a very pleasant ambient thrum IMHO, and now is easily masked by low volume classical music. Given how much I like this in all other regards discerning this in a way to manage the amp has been great. I'd say I'm now 110% satisfied as I can absolutely get the experience I desired, and far exceed my expectations for the price tag. If you want a 2.1 vacuum tube amp that is modern in all the ways that matter and classic in all the ways that matter look no further. Particularly for the sticker price. Just need to see how these tubes hold up over time. I'm running OG tubes on my Magnavox amp that are 20 years older than me. EDIT: I've found that if you don't mind leaving this thing on the sound of the vacum tubes deminishes to nothing. I leave it on non stop, I've not done a kilawat draw evaluation. I may and return to update this. But as it stands, unless this thing dies prematurely (and this is being measured against some 60 year old tube amps still going strong... ) Its kind of a no brainer recommendation, everyone should have one. ... show more

  • Not an Audiophile but True music lovers take on this inexpensive tube amp!
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
I purchased this unit in June 2022 for 179.00 on Amazon at the time I wasn't expecting much, having owned several modern, and high-end vintage systems from 10 watts to 130 watts per channel. This was going to be my gate way to the tube amp system I always desired, knowing this wasn't a true tube system and its relatively low wattage output. I was still intrigued by the low price. I received it within a few days of ordering it, It was well packaged and undamaged. First impression up on listening to it I honestly wasn't overly impressed at first with the sound quality, but found the build quality pretty decent. Tone control seemed lacking wishing it at a mid range control like found on some Marantz receivers. However with several hours of burn in I found it was sounding better and the tone was becoming more accurate. I sampled several pairs of vintage speakers from EPI, RTR, DCM, Design Accoustics and even some hard to drive Elac 6 ohm speakers, and I'm totally impressed with its ability to drive a powered sub and even two pairs of efficient 8 ohm floor speakers at time at volume. I find my self using the blue tooth and USB daily and use a fiber optic cable for TV audio. This thing has several hundred hours on it to date, still using the original tubes that came with. The only issue I have had was the right channel started going out about six months ago on when turning it on. as some others had mentioned in their reviews. I found the cause was in the headphone switch, after cleaning it with contact cleaner, and pushing on and off several times the right channel came back and it hasn't been an issue since doing so. Honestly if this thing completely died after this much use I wouldn't be upset, it has survived some pretty challenging jam sessions as I like to push the volume up listening in my basement Mancave to mostly Rock but also every genre of music at some point. At 60 years old I have listened to just about everything! Like I said I have many other systems and even recently purchased a new Ampapa amp on Amazon to drive some larger speakers with more wattage, but don't find the sound quality any better than what this Rockville unit has given me. For those of you questioning the reliability I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have seen audio influencers / reviewers doubting this unit and the lack of the better components found in other amps but even that said this units pretty phenomenal for the cost. I'll be ordering a second one soon to replace this one should it fail! Don't get me wrong my vintage stuff sounds better but there is a huge price difference and nostalgia involved that this can't compete with, but visually the Rockville has had several of my friends impressed with it! ... show more

  • Surprisingly powerful, definitely cool.
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
I have used this as my main unit for quite a while now. I love how it's compact, it's got great power output, the Bluetooth works well and the tubes just make it look super cool. It's almost steampunky. I do wish the tubes glowed a little bit brighter, they seem to have gotten dull over time quickly. Other than more input jacks I can't think of any negatives on this system. It's priced and right you can't go wrong. ... show more

  • Sounds great !!
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
I purchased this to replace a stereo receiver that was ruined due to a power surge. I was going to replace with another of the same. I stumbled across this little amp and thought what the heck. The one that got destroyed was $599.00 . I wanted to see if for $189.00 it would be comparable so I ordered it with just wanting to check it out thinking I could always just order another if I did not like this. I have an extensive collection of stereo components for High end to vintage and just plain good old stuff. This little system I had in a Tiki bar I had built in the downstair level of my second weekend home. I paired this with an early 80's pair of Optimus speakers from Radio shack and a mid 80's discman. I did not feel the need to hook up a sub with the big old 15 inch woofers in my speakers so I did not use the sub out on it. This is just a simple little system to play Tiki music in the bar area. WOW WOW WOW I'm blown away by this stupid little amp it is plenty loud and sounds fantastic. It works well with the CD player I could not ask for anything better. How long it will last that is another story. But for the money if I get anything over 2 years out of it. It is worth the price. Look this will never replace my 800 watt power amp but I never intended that. If you go into this with your eyes wide open and only expect it to be nothing more then what it is you will love it. In fact I will buy another one if this one breaks on me. I will be trying the Dayton version of it as well it cost $199.00 and I have used Dayton stereo products that have preformed flawless for years now. If you are reading this just BUY IT NOW YOU NEED IT !!! ... show more

  • Electrical issues
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
This product sounded good and looked good for the price. It's obviously not top of the line, but it's very cheap, and had a reasonable return on value soundwise. The issue I had was that after the amp was in use for <1 hour, the tubes would heat up sufficiently to cause a break in the circuit somehow (from swelling of the parts?), Resulting in the left speaker output cutting out entirely after about an hour of continuous use. I assume this is a quality assurance issue from a low end manufactured amp. Additionally there was not an installed ground for the phono input. If you are looking for something cheap that sounds ok and looks good, you might give this a try. But keep the box. ... show more

  • Sweet!
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
I was a working musician for many years. I wanted an amp to couple with my Paradigm speakers. I purchased this model for $109 and it is worth every penny as it sounds great with plenty of power for my small room. The Paradigms are rated at 92 db and this hybrid amp does the trick. The build quality is excellent and having tone controls and a headphone output are a real plus. Having the valve preamp is nice as the sound is not clinical but warm. I have a pioneer SX-780 which is in great condition but I need to put new power packs into it plus a recapping. I will use the pioneer in my bedroom. The Rockville, for the money, cannot be beaten. ... show more

  • Inconsistent sound and Bluetooth failed in high volume Inconsistent sound and Bluetooth failed in high volume
Style: Wood with Optical+Sub Out
The amplifier look beautiful. The sound good and clear when it works. I have tried for almost 3 weeks and convinced myself to keep this amplifier, but I can't because I have to switch the speaker connectors from positive to negative everything time I listen to find the right tune of sound. I guess it's defective one. The sound popped when I turn off the amplifier happened sometime. I did test with three different speakers sets. Bose 141, Klipsch Bookshelf, and KEF Q350. The KEF sounds better with this amplifier. Bluetooth flawless no issues. The only issue is sound come with delay like a .05 millisecond one side of the speaker until you switched the positive to negative on the speaker connectors then it work normal. The tube ware finger prints everywhere when it arrived even it's new in box. update, I repurchased a new amps hope to avoid the speakers connection problem. I did enjoyed the new amplifier almost a month until I have the bluetooth dropped everytime I have turn my iPhone volume over 75-80 percent the Bluetooth when the VU meter move up and down from the 7-9 olock the connection will lost and the amps need to turn off and on to reconnected. I guess return will happen again since within 30 days period. ... show more

Great unit, easy to set up, fits well with my MCM aesthetic. I'm running Klipsch floor standing speakers and a powered Yamaha subwoofer and I don't have any need to go past half volume. The Bluetooth range is also excellent. The receiver sits on the middle floor of my 3 story house and I can take my phone upstairs, down in the basement or out on the back deck without losing reception. ... show more
