Purchased from the Rockler store on Amazon. The packaging arrived via UPS completely thrashed. Surprisingly the lathe appeared to be undamaged. Unfortunately this turned out not to be the case. The lathe was not able to come up to speed (as indicated on its digital display). Opening the headstock showed the speed plate (essential to the speed display) was missing 12 of its 60 teeth. My call to Rockler Support initially resulted in the promise to send out a new speed plate since the damage could only happen at the factory. Unfortunately Rockler called back 15 minutes later to say the part wasn't available, and neither was a replacement spindle or headstock. My only option was to return the lathe for a refund, then repurchase it. Rockler Customer Support also said if I had gone through the Rockler website instead of their Amazon store, warranty replacement would be available. That's the kind of thing you only find out AFTER a problem shows up. The Rockler website indicated an additional $65 shipping charge applies to this lathe if it's purchased from them. That's the primary reason I decided to order from their Amazon store: no 10 pct shipping surcharge. The shipping surcharge has since been added to the Amazon listing. Since the lathe arrived in shredded packaging on the trip from the PRC and Minnesota (and who knows how many other places), I had to make my own boxes in order to send it back. On the bright side, dropoff at a UPS store was simple. About 10 days later I got confirmation of delivery and a refund from Rockler. I purchased Rockler's smaller Excelsior mini lathe a year ago, and this model appears to have all the features lacking in the mini: more power, larger capacity, continuously variable speed, reversible direction for sanding, etc. I repurchased this lathe at a Rockler brick and mortar store 45 miles from my house. My review of the lathe (instead of the Amazon / Rockler purchase experience) will be posted on the Rockler website after I've had an opportunity to put the lathe through its paces.
