When I first unboxed this, I thought it looked like a kiddie toy. It didn't look particularly sturdy, etc. BUT - I started to use it once I got back from my surgery and discovered that it was far more sturdy than it looks. Haven't had a single problem with that. In addition, the "claw" on it has tips on the upper and lower halves that actually intertwine for lack of a better word when you close them. That means that having done so, one or the other won't slip sideways and cause you to lose grip. I found that the claw tips would pick up even something as thin as a facial tissue and hold on to it, and yet I can also pick up some thing like a good sized soda bottle (full - have NOT tried a 2-liter :-) ) by its neck/cap area securely. Up by the tip there is a straight stud at right angle to the main square shaft; this stud is great for "hooking" something like some clothing items, etc., where the claw might be a problem. Finally, at first I thought that the short length (compared to some grabbers you might buy in a store) wasn't good BUT I discovered that by being a bit shorter it was less likely to bend or twist. Equally important, when you're not mobile and lying down, that shorter length means that once you've grabbed something it is very easy to pull the unit back and get your other hand on the object you've grabbed - a longer arm might make that very awkward.     • Looks can be deceiving
When I opened the package and got my first glance at this, my immediate thought was "Aaahhh what a waste of my money!" It looked SOOO cheap and flimsy and I didn't think it would last a week. I was SO wrong. I am disabled -I walk with a walker and my hips are bad so I cannot bend over to reach things on the ground very easily and sometimes not at all. I'm also very short, so I use this tool to reach things up high. Basically, I never go anywhere without it because I use it all the time, like at least 5x a day. It has been several months since I bought this and it is still just as good as when I first bought it. I also love that it quickly bends up in order to be more compact and easier to carry around. The magnet at the end is also very useful, as well as the little nodule at the end that helps me get dressed. I do wish it was a little stronger to grab heavier objects, but I'm OK with that since it has over exceeded my best expectations. I am very very impressed and I highly recommend this! ... show more

Recommended by my physical therapist when I had hip replacement. This grabber is very useful. It picks up the smallest of objects. I continue to use it after my hip is healed because it is so easy to pick up things from the floor. I did remove the clip that is supposed to mount it on the walker because it did not really hold. I have my original sam pres… brand reacher the claw lasted 20 years & I am a Quadriplegic. That brand weighs less & easier for my grasp - it has a hole for using a lanyard etc to grasp & hang it .. this brand does not. This brand folds & I was able to place the handle in a pull back position closing the claw overnight .. this loosens the grasping making my ability easier . Materials are heavier as the yellow areas are wider in comparison to other reachers . This is easier to place on your lap , folded & in a bag . Worth the price . This is attached to packaging on the backside like you would find hanging in a store . Shipped with other items is advisable. No issues with delivery , Ty ... show more

UPDATE, July 13, 2016: I still like this a lot. So much so, in fact, that I'm back for two more - one for the garage and one to keep in the car. I also keep one in my cubicle at work, where it's picked up everything I've asked it to, including things like a pretzel or a dime from the carpeted floor (yes, a dime! from carpet!). So far I haven't had any of the problems some others have reported here of the device coming apart when picking up heavy things, but I haven't asked it to pick anything heavier (at home) than a remote control, a cell phone, or a leather sneaker, none of which were any problem at all. ------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: After recent back surgery, I was told not to bend over, and was given a grabber/picker-upper when I was released from the hospital's rehab. I quickly realized I needed more than one, so came looking here at Amazon and found this item. It's almost exactly the same item except that this one folds up which helps keep it out of the way and unobtrusive until it's needed. I prefer this style to the one with two suction cups - it just seems to be stronger and more versatile. I also prefer the shorter legth (26") which is less awkward than the 30-32" ones. I even use this to take the clothes out of the dryer, something I couldn't otherwise do for myself while my back heals. ... show more

This is an amazing grabber! I had hip replacement surgery and it never left my side during recovery! It is just the right length, light weight, smooth trigger! It does fold but never needed to do that. Because it does fold it will come apart if you are trying to do something heavy. It picks up the tiniest objects. It picked up a flat piece of onion skin from my floor! The metal piece at the end is so useful. I used it to get my shoes on. I cannot say enough good things about it. This 26 inch reacher is shorter and sturdier than a traditional grabber making it easier to help get dressed, grab things off the floor, take your shoes off without having to bend down. There is a metal spoke that helps untie shoes and get clothes on and off easier. It is strong enough to grab a wheelchair and pull it closer to you and pull other objects closer as well. It also has a magnet for picking up metal objects such as spoons paperclips and so much more. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs extra help picking things up and to avoid bending for those with hip or back problems. It is a wonderful tool that is easy to carry with you ( especially the foldable option) at all times.
