  • excellent monitor, premium price
Style: RICOH 150
First off: this is a really excellent portable monitor. It's extremely lightweight, produces an excellent picture on the OLED display, smartly designed with USB-C ports at the center of the rear to avoid cables hanging off the sides, includes a nice faux-leather carry case. At the premium price, it's what you'd expect in terms of quality. I feel like the device would have been better served to include an HDMI (or mini/micro HDMI) port along with USB-C. Even in 2024, not everything includes USB-C, but nearly everything includes an HDMI out. This can be solved with an adapter, but in my experience, I was unable to use either the built-in speakers or the touchscreen capability of the monitor when using the display via HDMI with an adapter. In this configuration, I also had to power both the adapter (via USB) and the monitor itself through its second USB-C port. A hefty (100W) "PD" power supply was required to power the monitor successfully. (Interestingly, the monitor appeared to power on with a 20W power supply connected, but could not detect or display the HDMI source. I also tried a 65W PD power supply without success.) A minor nitpick: the included case does not have a compartment for accessories you may need, like the aforementioned adapter, power supply, or a USB-C cable. If your use case is USB-C only, and you require all the features this monitor offers, you will be very happy with it. If your use case includes HDMI, or you are not picky about wanting an OLED, or you don't need multi-touch support, or you're price sensitive and willing to compromise, I think you can probably find something you'll be happy with for around half the price of this monitor. ... show more

  • Makes a great portable second monitor, Dex supported!
Style: RICOH 150
For a few reasons, I was thinking of giving this a four-star rating, but in the long run, I settled on 5-start. Ricoh is a well-established brand in the electronics industry. I know them mostly from their printers which I've always found reliable. I honestly didn't know they were in the display business but was excited to give this one a try. The display really is very light and thin. Thin bezels as well, but not so thin you worry about breaking anything. The monitor is plug and play with Windows, just connect it to a USB-C port and you're good to go. The touchscreen works exceptionally well and is very accurate. I have not had the opportunity to try the pen, but it's nice that that is an option. There are display controls on the side that are easy to access and use, allowing you to control brightness, contrast, and color temperature to your liking. It does not appear that Windows can adjust the screen brightness. This must be done manually on the display itself. The stand is built very sturdy. Once you position the display, it will stay that way. The quality of the picture leaves a bit to be desired for me. I've had the best displays possible in my last few laptops, and while this is a real OLED display, it feels... old. 1920x1080 resolution is a bit low to me for 15.6", and the lack of 10-bit or dithering or HDR is just a little disappointing. My Dell laptops both are 2560x1440 and have 8-bit+dithering and HDR support and setting the Ricoh 150 next to them looks a bit rough, but mostly regarding resolution and pixel pitch. If you just need a second monitor without worrying about sharpness or color depth, this is still an excellent display. As an OLED display, color accuracy is excellent, and contrast is phenomenal. Black levels are true black. But unlike modern AMOLED, the color gamut is limited to 8-bit, so gradients could be smoother. The built-in speakers are pretty bad, but I'm sure you didn't buy this for the speakers. With how bad they are, I would have preferred the speakers not be present to save weight and cost. The speakers in my laptop and even smart phone are much better. I guess if you're watching a movie on here, it's better than nothing and it is more comfortable to hear audio coming from the display you're watching. Windows reports this as 1920x1080, 60hz, 8-bit (not 10-bit like another reviewer commented). Works only with my laptops, and not with my two desktops that have discreet GPUs and USB-C port on the motherboard. After a little tinkering, I got this working with Samsung Dex. It requires an external USB power supply hooked into port 2. I used a PD 45w type-c AC adapter, but I'm sure a lower-wattage power supply would work, including battery banks. Touchscreen didn't work at first, but on the 2nd attempt, it just worked out of the box. Sound could be transferred to the monitor. Hooking up a BT KB/Mouse to my Galaxy S22 Ultra turned this into a full-blown computer. Very impressive. ... show more

  • MASSIVE WASTE OF MONEY
Style: RICOH 150
God, this thing really made me angry. It didn't work straight out of the box. Just wouldn't connect. I'd invested in this for my 17yo who's very into (and talented with, though I accept that I'm biased) digital art. She's done a lot of really intricate things using just a program on her phone and the stylus, so I wanted her to have an opportunity to experiment with an actual tablet setup. Boy, was giving this to her a disappointment. We couldn't even get it to register on her laptop. Sort of. You know, it registered button input, but nothing else. Poor heartbroken kid, and poor me come tax time. Don't pay $500 for something that might not even work. ... show more

  • Ridiculously thin, beautiful…
Style: RICOH 150
This monitor has an amazingly beautiful screen, gorgeously so. It’s super thin, it’s highly portable, easy to bring along in a laptop bag, seems to work with anything with a HDMI cable, and it’s got the basics. I’ve got the wired version and it’s working fine, love the touchscreen and most about it but I’m not loving the value. I do realize that this is a newer thing and one of the first OLED portable screens that I’ve seen but is it worth an equivalent 40” OLED TV? The answer is a schmaybe, depending on how much portability means to you. Pros: Super light Very small bezel Beautiful screen Thin Touchscreen works well Cons: Not a good value but would be awesome at half this ... show more
