  • Do not get a new boiler if your pilot light dies on you!!
Style: Thermostat
Perfect fit! I would definitely buy from you again! It was such an aggravation trying to figure out why the pilot light would not turn on...and then I realized - it is probably the unit itself. I wasted money on new pilot thermostats but it did not work. SO this is how I did it: After receiving the package I carefully checked if the threads were protected and if all components were present. The unit looked new and in good shape. When installing, make sure the hot water boiler tank is empty. It will take a while to drain the water (I have a 40 gallon and used buckets), so do this during the weekend (good exercise transporting buckets to the sink. Use the appropriate wrench (3/4 for main gas and an adjustable small monkey wrench for the pilot thermostat and pilot gas connections, copper and silver colored thin tubes respectively) and remove the connections at the bottom of the old unit. If the spark maker is still good, keep the new one as a spare. Remove the protective tubing around the copper tube and apply sealing plumber goop or plumber tape around the threads before screwing onto the side of the boiler where the old one was (obviously you have already removed the faulty unit, including gas connection...do not forget to close the gas valve before starting this repair!!!!!!!!) until tight enough using a large monkey wrench able to grab both long ends of the unit. Reconnect all connections, including main gas source, check for leaks using soapy water after turning on the gas valve. By the way, the old gas control unit had a lot of hard water mineral caking on the large copper thermostat, and it still had the sheath on - which probably contributed to the failure. This boiler unit was operational for 7 years, so I expect the current control unit I have to last about the same...better than buying a new boiler at Home Depot for $400!! Thanks Rheem! ... show more

  • Works on State Hot Water Heater GS650YBRT
Style: Thermostat
This gas control valve fits State hot water heater, model number GS650YBRT. My pilot light would not stay lit and after replacing the thermocouple, working on the pilot light flame (enlarged the orifice so that the flame was larger and ensured that it would envelop the thermocouple), I determined that the gas valve was defective. This gas control valve has a different igniter arrangement, but otherwise works well. The plumber wanted to charge over $3,000 to replace the hot water heater, and I was able to get the hot water working for about a $100 and my time. Make sure you use Oatey 31230 Pipe Joint Compound or equivalent when installing the gas valve so you don't get any water leaks out of you hot water heater. ... show more

  • Same As AP14270G-1
Style: Thermostat
I was confused by the product description. My old Gas Control Thermostat was model #AP14270G-1. That part #was listed seperately. Since my hot water heater was not working I needed the part ASAP. The -1 part had one day delivery while the other part without -1 was two day delivery. As soon as I took the one day delivery part out of the box I knew that it exactly matched my old part. I then cancelled the other part. Anyway this was a replacement on a 40 gallon GE hotwater heater purchased at Home Depot in 2013. Amazon and Rheem needs to do a better job in their description. By the way the plumbing store wanted $170 for one day delivery. ... show more

  • WRONG PART for A.O Smith
Style: Thermostat
This valve comes up in the part number search for A.O Smith 182791-006 control valve replacement ( A.O. Smith GVR 500 100 hot water heater ). The valves look very similar on the outside, but once you remove the old valve from the tank you will then realize the new part's threaded shank is too short to fit into tank. There is also a answered question if this will fit a GVR 50 100 and someone incorrectly stated it would. Another Q&A states this same part had changed their shank size so they no longer work for some. Check your shank size first!!! The valve itself looks great and even comes with an igniter. I wish it would have been compatible. I am too leery to try and swap the shanks at this stage and will search for the correct valve instead. ... show more

  • Arrived fast, it worked well after a bit of troubleshooting
Style: Thermostat
When I installed the Rheem AP14270G Gas Control Thermostat and tested it the first time, no gas flowed when trying to light the pilot. The unit didn't seem to work at all. I immediately arranged to return it to Amazon and get a replacement. Then I did some research to understand how these work, and afterward decided to do some troubleshooting with the unit. I unhooked the pilot line from the bottom of the unit and when through the steps of lighting the pilot just to see if I could detect gas to flow, and that worked. This would probably be considered unsafe by most people, but I'm not most people. I was pretty sure I could do it without blowing myself up. After I got indication that gas was flowing, I turned the gas off again and reattached the pilot tube and tried again to light the pilot in the normal way. After a couple attempts it finally worked, and it has been working well for the last 24 hours. It was a rough start but all's well that ends well. ... show more
