  • The nostalgia is real.. The H700 chip is great!
Style: BRT-RG34XX-Glacier
The media could not be loaded. I grew up playing some of these classics, and it sure hit that nostalgia. The screen is much better than the Game Boy handhelds I had as a kid, and the buttons feel really solid. Battery life is awesome, and I like that I can charge it with my power bank. Super easy to find ROMs online and load on the correct folder in the SD card, but it comes with soo many games already, many of the classics. One of the coolest things about this handheld is the H700 chip. It's a widely supported and fast chip that a lot of emulator developers optimize for. It’s super easy to find custom firmware and tweaks that make this device even better. I wasn’t expecting to get into that, but now I’m finding myself researching all the many things that are possible with this chip. I'm attaching a video showing the buttons and a bit of the interface, keep in mind this is without the custom firmware. ... show more

  • Best retro handheld for original GBA fans.
Style: BRT-RG34XX-Glacier
If the original GBA is your favorite handheld, then this is the one for you. The glacier color also looks spot on in person.

  • Another Awesome H700 chipset device from Anbernic! Up to DC, SS and N64 emulation!
Style: BRT-RG34XX-Glacier
TLDR: You can't go wrong getting an Anbernic H700 chipset device. Easy to use. Easy to setup. Easy to upgrade. Stable. It's just fun. You do have to put your own ROMs on it though. Want more details? Keep reading. Once again, Anbernic gets it right. Honestly, I can say this: If you're new to handheld emulators or "retro emulation" in general, then there are only a few easy to use devices out there and basically zero "pick up and play" devices. IMO there's only a few choices out there if you want the shortest runway from "out of box" to "playing your favorite games". Low Power EDC (every day carrry): Miyoo Mini V4 or Miyoo Mini Plus+. Both of these devices are excellent and the Mini+ is slightly more powerful. It is a MUST to replace the stock OS with OnionOS (which is dead simple). It's a "single SD card" system and the file system for OnionOS and ROMs and can be read by Windows or Mac, so loading ROMs is easy. A Miyoo Mini or Mini+ is great for up to PS1 and lower and they're great for the pocket making them a easy choice for EDC. On the other hand you have Anbernics ENTIRE LINE of H700 Chipset Devices and there are TONS of them! There is the tiny rg28xx (tiny great EDC device) and there's the rgxx cube and rg40xx v and rg40xx h at the bigger end of the spectrum, and there's tons of other ones in between (seriously google it...it's almost comical how many they released in 2024). All of these devices INCLUDING THE RG35XX SP have this in common: They all use the H700 chipset which brings awesome emulation up to DC and N64 and even handles Sega Saturn quite well (there's some glitches from time to time with the Sega Saturn but it's actually really good). Anbernic has come a LONG WAY with their stock firmware and they've also stepped up the SD card quality as well. Now the latest versions of the stock OS have "save and shutdown" and "auto save state resume". They support retro achievements, have wifi and bluetooth and HDMI out. The firmware flashing process for Anbernic is dead simple too as well as the loading of ROMs. You have the options to do a "single SD card" setup (up to 64GB only) or a "dual SD card" setup (upto 512GB) and both are easy and anyone could do it and instructions aren't even really needed. It's just easy. Additionally, it used to be that even with Anbernic, these manufactuer's would use the jankiest and cheapest no-name SD cards and they would always fail leaving the uneducated user to come to no other conclusion, but the one that it was their handheld that wasn't working, when, in fact, it was just a cheap SD card. Now Anbernic is shipping these with the OS loaded on a decent quality Koxia branded SD card, and that's a Japanese brand and seem to be of stable quality. Now if you get one that comes with a second "ROMs" card, those seem to still be "el-cheapos" and I recommend using your own branded HIGH SPEED micro SD card. Regardless, Anbernic has really stepped up and are trying to make themselves the "Samsung" of the handheld emulator space, just as Samsung has done for themselves in the Android phone space. Here's some icing on this cake. These handhelds that are all running the H700 chipset have STRONG support from the 3rd party custom firmware community. There are SOOOOoo many options out there if you like to test and tinker. One of my favorit is Knulli. It's got a much steaper setup/learning curve, but it's flashing and is very stable when configured properly and the best part (IMO) is that you can scrap artwork direclty only the device. Honestly, I think that's the biggest only missing feature from Anbernic's stock firmware....Artwork scraping. Maybe "syncthing" would be nice too, that way I could sync my save files between the dozen+ Anbernic devices I have laying around here. Given time and Anbernic's seemingly appearant commitment to improvment, give me hope that those missing features will come in future releases! Here's the only negative and it's not specific to Anbernic, but they're not immune to it either: They stuff these devices with non-english language ROMs. I guess that's fine if you can read Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and a handful of other languages. Anbenic needs to do better at tayloring their ROM collections to the target audience, or, since including ROMs is not really "kosher", then stop including them and make people gather their own OR sell them without and include download links and instructions to some region specific ROM collections pre-curiated by them, but not hosted on the "public" internet. Filling and SD card with games you can't play because you can't read the menu can leave a frustrating and bad taste in "non-techie" user's mouths. Other and the inclued ROMs, this is a great purchase! ... show more

  • Great emulator
Style: RG34XX-RED
Great response time, decent os. Comes with a screen protector and charging cables and a case for storage. It also has both micro SD cards, one with the OS and one with games. The games are decent but there is no starting emulator for NES and SNES. There are plenty of games but you'll be better off buying a couple good quality micro SD cards and putting Garlic on 1 (an easy Google how to) and game roms on 2. Overall it's a good intro to where you will ultimately want to go! ... show more

  • Wonderfully nostalgic handheld!
Style: BRT-RG34XX-Glacier
The Anbernic RG34XX is kinda special in my opinion. Anbernic makes a lot of different handhelds, and we have so many choices these days when it comes to emulation devices. But, if you owned or ever wanted to own an original Gameboy Advance, the RG34XX will hit you hard with a blast of nostalgia. Take a look at my photos above where you can see my original GBA next to the RG40XX. It's uncanny how closely Anbernic mimicked the look and feel of the orginal, while including lots of extras the original never had and couldn't do. First of all, you get a backlit IPS screen that is 0.5 inches bigger than the original (3.4" vs 2.9"), and is much higher resolution (720x480 vs 240x160). The controls are excellent, with a solid dpad that had no issues with cardinal or diagonal movement on my RG34XX (I've heard some of the early units did, but this new Glacier color seems great). The biggest trick here that no original GBA can pull off is that you can play all sorts of systems beyond GBA, everything from Atari to Dreamcast. Just be aware that no GBA games are included, so you have to supply your own ROMs. This is completely normal and there should be no expectation of them being included. Adding them to this device is very easy - just plug the microSD card into a PC and drop your files into the GBA folder. Some other nice extras include HDMI output to a TV, a set of extra shoulder buttons (presumably for some PS1 games), and Wifi (tested and scraping and Retroachievements work). Lastly, I'll just mention how much I love the glacier colorway. Don't get me wrong, all the RG34XX colors look good, but as you can see in my photos I had this color GBA back in the day and still have it. It's my favorite overall, so I'm really happy to have this colorway for the RG34XX as well. Highly recommended. I will also note this seller, BAORUITENG, sent the RG34XX will everything you see in my photos, including a strong protective Anbernic case, screen protector kit, charging cable, 64GB games microSD card, and wrist strap. I don't know if other sellers include all those items, but I was impressed to receive such a complete package. ... show more
