  • Great RFID lock for the price.
The media could not be loaded. We use these locks on concealment cabinets and they work perfectly. They can be tricky to align perfectly but the included double sided tape helps a lot (I've never used the included template.) The lock is nice and strong...we had someone remove their batteries and then close the cabinet and the only way to get back in without causing major damage was by drill through the back of the cabinet. Initial programming can be a pain if you don't get it right the first go round (and the instructions are not written all that well.) Here's what I've found works best: 1) Put the batteries in. 2) Hold the card you want to be the master card to the unit. You will hear a series of beeps and the lock will disengage. 3) Immediately, while the lock is disengaged, swipe the remaining cards and key fobs individually. The unit will beep once as each card/fob is swiped. You've got to be quick and swipe all of them before the lock engages. If you don't get them all programmed in the first go round it is a pain in the rear to reset because if you don't press the reset button just right it puts the unit into the other modes (double card, single card, etc.) We've never used the auxiliary power cord so I can't attest to how well it works. ... show more

  • Universal enough to work in a wide variety of applications
The media could not be loaded. I added a new "vintage" drawer unit in my home, and wanted to convert a drawer to secure storage. I've been considering RFID for a while, and after seeing the positive reviews decided to give this unit a try. For the price, it's an excellent option. The overall design is simple, and the 2 strike plate locations allow for a few different mounting options. However, it may not work for your particular application. The only way I could see this being even more universal is if the RFID sensor could be manually repositioned. For my application, I had a bit of room behind the drawer, but not quite enough to mount it in the longer configuration. To get around this, I made a custom mount for the latch piece that attached to the back of the drawer. A competent woodworker should be able to make an adapter for existing furniture, or design a custom application altogether using these latches. As far as programming the lock, I had no issues getting all the keys programmed to it. I chose to use rechargeable batteries, and my drawer unit would allow me to change the batteries without having to open the locked drawer. I also hooked up the USB power, but the included cord is extremely short, and proprietary to this lock. It would be better if it was a standard USB connector on the lock. Mounting the unit wasn't too difficult. The double sided tape helps with positioning, but the templates are worthless. Just put the unit in place and push the screws in to mark any pilot holes. The sensor works well enough. I don't want to add the "target" sticker on my furniture, so it has taken a little bit of practice to hit the sweet spot. The sensor works through about 1" of hardwood with no problems. Overall, I think this is a cheap way to add RFID locks to a variety of locations. I will be ordering another one of these to try with additional drawers I'd like to add locks to. I took off one star for the proprietary USB power cord. ... show more

  • Hidden in plain sight for my firearm
The media could not be loaded. Hidden in plain sight for my firearm. Great construction but a pain in the rear to install for a novice handyman and homeowner. The templates are useless since I could just simply use the hardware for drill holes but used the cardboard templates anyway. I struggled with lining up both the locking mechanism and the latch where it would close without grinding any metal pieces amongst the spring loaded pins. Are used some old hardwood from some cabinets that I saved that finally came in handy since my cabinet is not flush with the opening door. I’m sure I would get better with practice but found out that I was close to my measurement by simply using the double-sided tape on the locking mechanism while it was locked on the latch and then close the door. And then I opened it with the RFID keychain master card and mounted the locking mechanism box. It still wasn’t perfect so I suggest that since gravity is working against you, slightly move the locking box an eighth or a quarter of an inch in the opposite direction; in my case, upwards since I have a vertically opening door. IMPORTANT: Will not self-open door with basic hardware. Mind you, I even wanted to install a cheap gas strut or spring-loaded push latch so it would open when I would swipe the RF ID card. The lock is spring loaded so any tension against the door or locking mechanism WILL NOT allow the door to open unless you push it to release the internal springs of the locking mechanism. After through some troubleshooting of installation, the unit works flawlessly with both the 2 keychains and the 3 RFID cards. I even ordered a 13.56 MHZ metal ring for the fun of it for sleekness to open the cabinet since there’s a locking box can program several other RFID cards. You won’t be disappointed. Check out the video. I am very pleased. ... show more
