  • Solid Shine Control, Affordable
Color: 290 Natural Ochre
Revlon's ColorStay pressed powder stands out as one of the dwindling affordable talc-based options, especially now that drugstore brands are switching over en masse to "clean" formulations that are predominantly mica. For those of us with oily skin, this industry shift has led to a real struggle in the search for a shine-eliminating pressed powder. While people with normal or dry skin who prefer to avoid an ultra-matte look might appreciate mica-based powders for their natural glow, for someone battling excess shine, "skin-like" often translates into a pearlescent finish that unfortunately emphasizes pores and wrinkles. This particular powder does include "synthetic mica" (synthetic fluorophlogopite), but thankfully it's listed as one of the last ingredients in the formula. This placement helps prevent the powder from appearing chalky on the skin, which is a definite plus. Under both fluorescent (first photo) and natural (second photo) light, I don't detect any noticeable glitter in this powder. The brand markets this powder with a claim of "lasts up to 16 hours," which hasn't aligned with my experience, particularly in terms of shine control. I typically start to see shine breakthrough and a reduction in coverage after about 2-3 hours of wear. While this might initially sound like a major product letdown, these results are fairly typical for most drugstore pressed powders I've tested. To manage shine that inevitably emerges, I recommend using blotting paper first, and then touching up with powder. Layering more powder directly over oily skin can easily lead to a caked-on appearance, which is something I think we're all trying to avoid. Shade 290 Natural Ochre is a commendable option for light-medium complexions with a slightly yellowish undertone. It manages to be not too warm (leaning orange) and not too neutral/cool (beige-pink), which is a balance surprisingly hard to find in drugstore brands. Often, drugstore ranges include only a single pale yellow shade in their fair-light offerings (or label it as a "translucent" or "banana" shade), completely skip the light-medium range for yellow undertones, and then reintroduce "yellow" undertones again starting in the medium-tan range. Even then, these are frequently golden (olive) shades that are too deep for my light-medium complexion. Regarding application, the included puff is acceptable for quick touch-ups, but a fluffy brush is definitely preferable for building up sheer coverage in more diffused, even layers. To be clear, this powder isn't going to magically erase significant skin texture or look flattering on flaky dry patches, nor will it replace a full-coverage liquid foundation or concealer for effectively covering blemishes. It also won't substitute a dedicated "HD" silica finishing powder in providing intense pore-blurring and shine-control. However, if you're seeking a travel-friendly pressed powder with a relatively smooth texture that offers light coverage without an overly metallic finish, then this Revlon ColorStay pressed powder is a solid and affordable choice. ... show more

  • Crazy good!
Color: 820 Light
I never write reviews, but this product is so great. I usually use the Maybelline fit me pressed powder, but this one is way better in my opinion!!! Pores are less noticeable, product lasts all day and feels natural on the skin. I would recommend this!
