  • Simply an outstanding album that now seems quite precient
I discovered Jason Isbell and his wife Amanda Shires from a performance on the daily show of the song "Only Children" and was immediately enraptured. I am surprised that I have not heard of him before, but such is the nature of our fractured musical landscape. His music falls on the borders of folk, rock, and country - what some people call Americana. His songs tell stories; whether it is a discussion of his alcohol recovery, "It Gets Easier" or thinking about his daughter growing up, "Letting You Go," his songs are often quite moving. A few songs seem to be written about the time we are in, dealing with COVID, such as "What Have I Done to Help" or "Be Afraid." Mr. Isbell did a live stream acoustic concert of the full album at the Brooklyn Bowl, accompanied by his wife on violin, which is quite worth checking out. I'm very happy to have discovered Isbell and this album is a great place to start listening to his music. ... show more

  • Great Album
I watched a documentary on Jason Isbell on a international flight and heard some of this album on it. I immediately ordered. This is an amazing record! His words are so real & touching. Looking forward to hearing more of his music.

  • Another Win
Big fan of Jason Isbell and have been waiting (not so patiently) for the release of Reunions. The insight of his lyrics are never disappointing and I think are particularly profound for those who have difficulty verbalizing feelings or experiences. In this way, Jason is always therapeutic. Dreamsicle, Running with Our Eyes Closed, and St. Peter's Autograph were my favorites in another album of ALL favorites. Give Isbell a listen, even if you don't think he's your "genre" of music. His talent shines through and can speak to anyone who will hear him. ... show more

  • Three great ones
Not as many killer songs as other JI cds, but three of his best of all, “ Letting her Go” has had me in tears every listening. If you have a daughter, you will tear up too “ Tupelo “ puts you right there , I can smell those flowers with bees buzzing Guitar on “ Overseas “ sounds like Neil Young and Prince melded together , truly amazingly talent with this guy Buy it and all his albums , I feel he is just getting started ... show more

  • Another great album
Another great album. I have to say when I first listened, I wasn't sure.. some of the production, or the way certain songs are presented musically, did not exactly grab me, but after repeated listening, his incredible songwriting shined through. Basically, this guy is one of the best songwriters in recent memory. I believe this album is a bit more personal for him, and some of it was harder for me to relate to, not being a father. In general his themes are pretty universal. Major highlights for me are -Only Children, Overseas, River, and St Peters Autograph. Only children , is basically incredible. ... show more

  • He sings from the heart
This is my 4th Jason Isbell cd I've bought; southeastern, something more than free, and Nashville sound. First saw him on Austin City Limits and was hooked. Favorite tracks I most liked were the haunting song Only Children, the great guitar licks and lyrics to Overseas, Running with our eyes closed, anthem song Be Afraid, It gets easier about his own fight with alcohol (thank you Amanda for the intervention), and Letting you go about Jason raising his daughter. All 5 star songs. The rest are very good too, but I have my favorites. I feel we will be talking about this singer/songwriter like James Taylor was for my generation (I'm 60). I look forward to the chance to go to one of his concerts and of course his next release. ... show more

  • Great album. And worth every penny.
Best singer songwriter around. I’ve seen Jason Isbell 6 times and every time he puts his heart and soul into his show. The writing on this record is outstanding. And when david Crosby sings backing vocals on your records you know you are good. 10/10.

  • Love this new Isbel release!
Jason Isbel never disappoints. That can be said for this newest release that has me singing along after only two playings. Love this guy, his music, and his lyrics. Wonderful poet.
