It took a little while to assemble the net, and I was concerned that I couldn't keep the netting in place at the base of the metal loop frame since the wasp was pretty angry at me capturing it inside my house, at the top of the window over a staircase.     • Rescued a Dragonfly

When I received the item, I was a bit confused at how it all went together (there's not that many pieces). It was easy to figure out, and I was able to grab the great LONG handle net, and run to the pool enclosure, and after a few attempts, was able to catch the dragonfly! As I was using it, the extended handle kept collapsing, which was frustrating, but I quickly figured out that it had to be turned, to keep it al the desired length. Each section needs to be tightened when you are using it. It collapsed just fine, and now we are thrilled to have a strong metal pole, that can help rescue flying critters. I also liked that it was pretty wide, which helped immensely when rescuing the dragonfly. I did some research on-line and learned that as it gets dark, a dragonfly and butterfly will stay still until daylight. This poor little guy had been in there for two days and was pretty tired. I did have to bump him very gently, so that I could catch him, and he started flying and with the help of a small ladder, was successful. It was wonderful to see him fly away free without screens being in his way. ... show more

My son is really into catching different kinds of insects and learning about them. He has had the cheaply made ones in the past but they break fairly easy. The big difference between this one and a few others I have seen is the telescoping pool. He definitely will not break this one. The only thing you'd probably have to replace after a season or 2 would be the net but that's just from normal use. ... show more

    • Beats using a whip!

I made a whip to exterminate the grasshopper invasion this summer, and it took about 3 tries per grasshopper before I hit them. My neighbor yelled at me for bothering her dog with the whip, so I bought this net. I'm impressed with the size and reach, so I can wave it in front of me as I walk, and catching the grasshoppers is quite easy. A light tap of the foot when they're in the net, and then the insects are bird food! This can all be done silently. My sister lives in a neighboring state and was next to be visited by the grasshopper invasion, and now she's using this net (she got her own). Sure, I could also catch-and-release butterflies after taking a closer look at them. Maybe I'll gather the glasswing sharpshooters from my grape and citrus plants next! ... show more
