  • Incredible!!!
Size: 1 Pack Style: Fly Trap
I don't write many Amazon reviews but this product is so worth the purchase I wanted to chime in. It does have an odor, but I have ours hanging above our garbage cans, an area that was not particularly inviting to begin with. The cans are about 30 feet from our patio door, and I used to have flies swarming into the house every time I opened that door. Now this a fly-free zone, because every time I look at the fly trap bag it has 15-20 new flies buzzing inside. They're fighting to get into that bag instead of my house! It's fantastic to be able to open my door and now fight off flies. ... show more

  • WORKS WELL BUT STINKY
Size: 1 Pack Style: Fly Trap
I gave this 4 stars - I'd give a 5 if it didn't stink so bad if its located too close to where you sit outside. Don't even THINK about using this inside as the smell would definitely be a problem. This product appears to be very active which is great, it seems I have far fewer flies on my patio where we sit outside, so fewer to try to get into the house too where they are REALLY ANNOYING and very dirty things too. I do not like the idea of them landing anywhere in my house especially on food/fruit and so forth. While some people just ignore them as being part of summer, I guess I have a "thing" about them and the sicknesses they can carry and transmit. Anyway, also, while it is a good thing to find the times I've had occasion to see whether its working or not that indeed it is. But its REALLY GROSS to look at. My dislike/loathing of flies wins out but actually I feel rather sorry for them getting trapped in there even though they never feel sorry for me when they are pests and sometimes even bite. But I do realize that none of us chose to be what we are. Dogs don't choose to be dogs, flies don't choose to be flies. Theoretically true but ultimately ewww[...] So back to the effectiveness review. Works good and there are lots of them in there. I read the previous reviews and heeded the warnings about hanging it a distance away because of the odor. However I guess I did not place it far enough away as sometimes when its pretty hot weather or the winds in the right/wrong direction I can definitely smell it and its a pungent smell that kind of gets in my throat. So I had 2 of them hanging close together and both working (enough flies for 2) but I moved one of them a little farther away. I really didn't want to have to deal with moving it because of the ich factor but the way I hung one it was fairly easy to do. The other one is fastened in such a way as to make it more difficult to move and for that reason I have left it stay where it was. If I get up the willpower I will move it too but even moving one has improved the smell situation but not totally. So the product says that on hot days it will do better hanging in the shade and on cool days its better hanging in the sun. So I attached it to the frame of a lawn swing which is out but not in use currently so that I could slide it along to sun or shade but I wrapped wire around many times to be sure it was secure and now its going to take a little time to get it undone. So I recommend hanging it in such a way that it will come free for disposal and/or moving fairly quickly and easily. I now have it hanging from a branch of a tree further away. Be careful where you hang it that its not something you might accidentally bump into when mowing or gardening, standing up and forgetting its there because if it the contents came spilling out onto me if I bumped it I would totally be grossed out to have it spill onto me. (its not a concern its well designed just if you bumped into the bag w/o knowing is the only thing). I guess what I'm saying, carefully consider where to hang and how to hang securely but easily detachable as well for if you need to move it and/or dispose of it (in a trash bag sealed up afterward). You won't have to touch the actual contents to because its designed that way to avoid contact. its just ICCHY to look at. The fact that I bought another speaks to how I feel as to its effectiveness. Others mentioned the smell and I concur. I probably had it initially hanging about 35 feet away from my patio (my yard isn't all that big and the patio is in the center) and it really should have been about 15 or 20 feet further away. But it works and for that reason I am glad I found this item and purchased it as it makes it much easier to enjoy being outside when so many of the flies are "elsewhere". It's very easy to set up, no confusing directions so I do recommend very much this product. ... show more

  • Disposable Bag Is A Good Idea
Size: 1 Pack Style: Fly Trap
We've used the jar that had to be emptied and refilled before -- a job nobody wants to do! This disposable bag is probably a better idea for most people. We expected to see results with this in a few hours, after the scent had time to develop, but the action commenced immediately. Flies were buzzing around inside the bag in no time. July is definitely fly weather here! Probably due to most backyards having a dog or two, and immediate cleanup of waste is impractical for most people, it's a messy situation. This won't solve all the problems, but if enough people put a fly bag in a far corner of the yard, we'd probably see far fewer flies. ... show more

  • Wonderful!!
Size: 1 Pack Style: Fly Trap
I bought this after I found about twenty flesh flies in my basement. I managed to kill those off using Raid and so far I haven't had any new ones reappear but I was concerned about a re-infestation. I couldn't tell if this product worked for flesh flies from the online description (maybe it's there and I just overlooked it?) but the side of the bag itself does list all of the various flies that it works with and flesh flies IS one of the listed species. Set up was super easy. You cut around the dotted lines at the top of the bag and a smaller section of the yellow trap 'pulls out'. Attach some twine to the latch and hang it someplace away from your home in a well ventilated area to minimize the odor that it gives off, then fill with water up to the dotted line. The bait is enclosed in the trap within a bag that will dissolve on it's own over the course of one to three hours. I would fill it up with water once you've already hung it outside of your house to avoid the possibility of it spilling over onto your floors/carpeting (which appears has happened to another reviewer) - I don't think it would be easy to get rid of the smell if this should happen.. It's been hanging up by the side of my garage for two days now and there is about an inch of dead flies trapped within it as of this morning. It doesn't matter if they don't die right away because they can't get out once they go all the way in. Directions state that you dispose of the bag once it fills up or the bait has completely evaporated, whichever comes first (though I think if it's the later, you could probably just add more water to continue using it). I didn't find the odor to be all that bad. It's repulsive, yes, but it seems to have a limited throw of about a couple of feet - possibly more if it were placed nearby enclosed walls. As for the flies that it has captured thus far, they all appear to be bottle flies (the kind with the shiny blue-green butts). I haven't seen any flesh flies in there but I also haven't seen any new flesh flies around the house (a neighbor had a dead fish rotting out in the wooded area by her house and once the carcass was discovered and removed, none of us have seen new flesh flies in the neighborhood - hopefully that will be the last of them). Regardless of the type of fly it's capturing, I'm happy that it's at least reducing the general fly population around me :). Bottle and cluster flies tend to be what we see most in my neighborhood and I wouldn't be sad to see them reduce in number a bit - I do intend on purchasing this trap every year now that I know about it! Highly recommend. ... show more
