    • Exceeded expectations!
The Redcomets CD-W is one of the rare products that exceeded my expectations. The light is far brighter than I expected, installation was an absolute breeze, and (most importantly) the components are cleverly designed and precisely machined from high-quality materials (primarily aluminum). I hesitated for quite a while before purchasing this item. I wanted a handlebar extension to hold the ever-growing number of accessories that it is useful to have on my bike. Also, my cell phone is among the bulkiest and heaviest on the market (an Oukitel WP-10): I had slim hope that the cell phone bracket on the Redcomets unit would hold my phone, so I presumed that this functionality would be lost. Ultimately, I decided to give it a shot. The light is powered by a pair of very large rechargeable batteries (I think they are lithium ion but wouldn't swear to it). Unlike many systems, these batteries are easily accessible and can be replaced easily when they stop taking a charge (this is inevitable in any rechargeable battery, they all have a finite number of charge/recharge cycles in them). This was an unexpected feature and I applaud Redcomets for not sealing the batteries in place as so many other manufacturers do! The unit can also act as a powerbank, allowing its stored energy to be used for powering a phone, cyclocomputer, or other USB-powered device. The light itself is very bright and I think works just fine as a headlamp without any additional aid. (Bicycling in the dark is always risky, so relying on any single light source seems unwise to me.) Since the unit is held to its brackets with a pair of thumbscrews, re-aiming it in the vertical dimension is a piece of cake. However, since the light is intrinsic to a cylindrical item, it cannot be aimed in the horizontal direction: it points where the front wheel is pointed. The unit is attached to the bike's handlebar via a pair of brackets. The manufacturer provides a set of plastic shims to adapt the unit to a wide range of different possible handlebar diameters (I think six different shim sizes were provided). Despite this, I did have to add a little bit of extra plastic tape to get a snug fit. But that's no big deal. Some tweaking will certainly be necessary for everybody: you're trying to get something to hold strongly to a round surface _without_ squeezing so hard that you damage the handlebars. That will inevitably take a bit of iterating. The manufacturer provided all the necessary hardware for installation, including both an Allen key and a Phillips-head screwdriver. They also included a Garmin-type bayonet mount for a cyclocomputer or GPS or whatever (pretty much everything uses that kind of bracket these days). The hardware kit that came with my phone had a very slightly defective screw. I could have replaced it at any hardware store, but first I reached out to the manufacturer. They responded very swiftly and provided me with a replacement. I give them an A+ for customer service! The cell phone holder is a clamp that screws tight and has a final cam that clamps the phone in place _very_ sturdily. As mentioned above, my phone is huge and heavy. I think I'm at the very end of the range that this thing can handle. But it _does_ fit and I am confident that it will be held in place through anything but a violent crash. (A more-normal phone would be held even more firmly.) As mentioned above, I didn't have high confidence that the phone bracket would work with my phone and was prepared to lose that bit of functionality, so having it work was a bonus for me. All in all, I am very happy with the item: all of the machining is clean and everything holds together solidly. The lamp is _bright_ and the battery holds a huge charge. (Let's be reasonable: the amount of time that a bright light can be powered by a pair of batteries that can fit into something only about 1" in diameter by about 9" long is limited. This thing shouldn't be expected to do magic.) It holds my phone, computer, and a couple of other accessories that I've bolted on with standard handlebar clamps.     • This light is bright but at the cost of your battery
I love how bright these light are and the fact that you can recharge devices with it but my only problem is the battery it doesn’t last long on high brightness. I got 1 hour and a half out of it with just high brightness alone and it dies also the charging confuses me sometimes can’t really explain but after charging it all night it’s still not charged completely but I really do love the brightness ... show more
