  • Very well made
These shoes are heavy, stiff and difficult to put on when they are first taken out of their box. The leather is very thick and the soles are stiff relative to other similar shoes and the construction seems similarly robust. After two weeks of wearing them every day to work they have boken and are comfortable to have on all day. The leather finish has held up well and looks like it will survive a very long time with regular car and polishing. The look of the shoe is great. I have worn them with suits and jeans and they always feel right at home and never pretentious or silly like so many overly styled shoes often do. I highly recommend Red Wongs in general and these in particular. Just make sure you are willing to spend a couple weeks wearing stiff shoes while they break in to your feet. ... show more

  • different shoe than what was advertised
I saw theses shoes in the store and where very sturdy but when I purchased them from FS fashion they were damamged and way too big almost seemed like they were stretched and the whole on the side of the shoe was obvious. I have decided to send them back and just purchase from the Red wing store. Remember there is a difference between the 1916 and the 1924. The 1924 is a triple oak layer and the 1916 is very flimsey to say the least and is very unfinished. I am sending them bac. Very unhappy about me having to pay for shipping on these expensive shoes when they were shipped damaged. probably won't purchase from them again. Very unhappy ... show more

  • Really do get tons of compliments on them
I work in an office setting. We can be pretty casual, but I like to dress up a little. Once a week I will wear these boots with either Jeans or some type of slacks and I will get a compliment on them every time. I also have a habit of walking home from house parties. I can attest to these things on a 6 mile hike multiple times. They are surprisingly comfortable for a boot without any type of insert. As for the construction, it seems very well made. I have used mine many times over the last year and with a good boot cream they still look real good. The rubber part of the sole has started to come off a little on the one shoe and the soles in general are beat up, but I have heard I can get these resoled if it every became a problem. I am starting to look to get a black boot from Red Wing because I have really enjoyed having these. Doesn't hurt that you can tell those hard core patriots that they are American Made ... show more

  • Nice Chukka but understand what you're buying
NOTE - I just had my first pair of shoes replaced under warranty. The heel has separated in a 2 spots and the turnaround time was incredibly fast from Red Wing. As stated above the heel separated on these shoes. Looking at other reviews this seems to be an issue. My heel had started to separate from the leather sole and also one heel had separated in the middle as well. My shoes were replaced within a day of receipt and on their way back to me. This is a very sturdy shoe. I had worn the previous ones maybe a dozen times and had only just started to break them in. I have a "C" width foot so if you're wider than that these may be snug. Understand these are Red Wing shoes and are built to last. The leather, while nice, isn't what you will get with other dressier chukkas. I've noticed slight imperfections but I have no issue with that as these are "boots". The leather seemed to be drying out a bit on the shoes so I need to figure out the best way to care for the uppers. Very sturdy shoe with minimum support but it will form to your foot over time. I bought these to wear for years and they seem to be built for that. I have a local cobbler that can re-sole and recondition so when the time comes for that years down the road I will submit another review. These shoes are snazzy and go great with jeans or slacks. Other than the heel issue I would purchase these again. ... show more

  • Worth every penny. Pay once, wear them for life.
This is my 2nd pair of Red Wing's, I got a pair of Iron Rangers about 3 years ago. The first thing I noticed when I got them was the sheer weight of them, these kicks are S-O-L-I-D! Then comes the smell of leather, no plastic or BS materials in this box. I then immediately put them on to start the slightly painful breaking in process, a small price to pay for a boot that will conform around your foot and fit perfectly. I'm on my 2nd week and I'm almost there. I did have to size up a half size from my Iron Ranger size but that was a quick and painless exchange. In a world littered with cheaply made boots that are charging big prices for a brand name and a gimmick, Red Wing stands alone. Quality materials, classic designs made expertly in the USA, these boots will last for decades. Perfect for the office during the week, going out at night or just kicking around on the weekends. Worth every single penny you pay for them. I have to end this now as I feel the overwhelming need to go salute the Star Spangled Banner flying outside my building. ... show more

  • Not the boot for me
First, I love this brand; I love the quality, workmanship and materials of which these boots are constructed with. They are however, the most uncomfortable boots I've ever owned (and second most expense). Yes, the leather is stiff and they require you break them in the correct way, but even after wearing them for a couple weeks, conditioning them, etc., the insoles still absolutely butcher my feet. Imagine having a 2x4 taped to you feet, that's about how they feel, if I'm going to be honest. I hate to complain about anything, but these weren't the boots for me at least, and unfortunately I missed the return window by three days! I wish I could return and try another pair of Red Wings, because even though these aren't the right boots for me, and I learned the hard way, It's easy to see how they'll last as long as they do - the construction is phenomenal. ... show more

  • Great Boots
These boots are amazing. They take about a week to break in, but after that are very comfortable. They are extremely versatile, and can be worn to/with about anything. Please note that they do run a bit large. I generally wear a 10.5 in most common brands (nike, adidas, etc.), but had to size down to a 10 in these. The quality of craftsmanship is very impressive, and I anticipate these boots will last decades. ... show more
