I have a slight hearing problem, at least my mumbling family tells me I do. Kidding aside, I know that my hearing isn’t what it used to be, but I don’t think it is impairing my life. However, I could be wrong. My question was could I preview what a hearing aid might do for me? This F&Kcoptee hearing amplifier, seemed like an inexpensive way to find out. The amplifier arrived with an array of different sized ear plugs, a storage case, a micro-USB charging cable, and an operation guide. The amplifier uses a LiPo battery, so you do not need to buy batteries every week. It claims 11 hours of operation on a charge. I am not sure it is 11 hours, but it is long. The unit is easy to install and comfortable to wear. When wearing the unit, it isn’t very noticeable. There are three controls: volume, mode, and an on/off switch. The mode and on/off switch can easily be changed while wearing. The volume control should be set before putting the unit on. There are 4 modes: normal, noise reduction 1, noise reduction 2, and noise reduction 3. The modes are not explained in the operation guide. They seem to be about the same, but I have not tested them in real noisy environments. The operational guide explains that you need to “learn” how to hear with a hearing aid, and that it takes about 3 weeks. I put the volume on one, the lowest setting, and did hear things better. Jury is still out on whether conversations will be less stressful. My biggest complaint is that there is a white noise present when the amplifier is in use. I believe the white noise could have been suppressed better. At higher volume levels it might make the unit unusable. I also suspect they are right about having to wear the unit for 3 weeks before seeing all the benefits. I have started to tune out the white noise already. Overall, the F&Kcoptee hearing amplifier has been a pleasant surprise., except for the following 2 areas that could be improved. The manual section on the definition of the different modes. They should be explained better. Unit charging isn’t clear. The current description suggests that if you leave the unit in the charger for an extended period the battery will degrade (overcharge). The manual also suggests that there is no under voltage protection, a real serious short coming, if true. ... show more

    • Not for everyone
I am a caregiver for my 102-year-old mother who has very bad hearing. She uses an expensive hearing aid in one ear and nothing in the other ear because we were told it wouldn't help. I thought I would take a chance of trying this inexpensive aid to see if we could get even the slightest improvement in her bad ear. Unfortunately, we had no luck with our experiment. Just trying to get the hearing aid in a place where the screeching would stop was impossible. We tried different sizes of plugs but none worked. Additionally, the aid is rather large compared to her other one and her ears are rather small, so we also couldn't get the hearing aid placed in a comfortable position on the outside of her ear either. Patience is limited with the elderly, so after several attempts on a couple of different days, we had to call it quits. To be clear, they refer to hearing aids in the description, but you get one hearing aid. It may work for some people and is probably one of the most inexpensive ones to try but you might be better off with a more refined one that costs more to get a better result. ... show more

    • A decent sound amplifier, mainly for voice
This is clearly not a fully functional hearing aid, but it does remarkably well at boosting volume for the spoken voice -- particular higher pitched voices. I have a moderate hearing loss and this unit has been very helpful for better understanding voices in TV programs and personal conversations. I keep it beside my chair and use it as appropriate while watching TV. Unfortunately, however, it has a few issues. First, although it clarifies voices, it severely limits the range of sound for music. It also picks up extraneous sounds such as a door closing, a clock chiming, a fork dropping, etc. with jarring volume. I have also not found any of the four ear pieces that will hold the unit in either ear. While it is not a concern for use at home, the plastic tube carrying sound between the controller and earpiece is thicker and more visible than those on most hearing aids of this type and is not attractive. Since an order of this product includes only one unit, not a pair as suggested in the description, I can't say how well a pair would function. I've so far only worn it for short periods, so I'm not yet sure how long the unit will last on a charge, but I don't find its charging process very friendly. If one had a pair, it would be very inconvenient. Since it comes with a nice carrying case, it's a shame that the case isn't also a charging station like many other generic hearing aids. For the narrow purpose it serves for me, this is a useful voice amplifier at a very affordable price. ... show more

    • Works Well as an Amplifier, Good Value
My dear mother has very few faults, but one of the issues we have argued over is her need of hearing aids. She has not wanted to spend thousands of dollars on the hearing aids that she needs, so I yell at her (or so it may seem), just to talk to her. The television is loud enough for the neighbors down the street to hear. It has been a challenge for years. When I saw this amplifier I cautiously suggested we try it, and to my surprise she agreed. It has been a pleasant surprise. The amplifier comes with a brief explanation on how to adjust your brain to 'hearing' again. She is following the suggestions and has found that each time she wears it, her hearing is better. She is able to filter out the background noise and focus on voices and and important sounds instead. We were discussing it and it was fun listening to her explain that she had not heard the refrigerator noise or the microwave humming for years. Or her own feet across the tile floor when she was walking. Amazing what we take for granted, she was hearing some of these sounds for the first time in a long time. I know not everyone's experience will be the same. Her hearing loss is quite bad in one ear. She is thrilled with the ampliflier and will continue to go slow to reap the benefits of the it.
