  • I have had this wonderful washer for almost a month and love
I have been ordering from Amazon for years and with over hundreds and hundreds of order, I cant remember ever writing a review...until today. I have had this wonderful washer for almost a month and love, love, love it! Did I mention I love it? Well I do! I have been searching for a portable washer for a couple of months. I live in Hawaii so shipping is generally not offered on large products such as this. I also live in a studio condominium. Units here do not have washer hookups and it is further prohibited to change existing plumbing so our options are few to none. It has been far too many years of going up and down in the elevator to the laundromat and has become too expensive in my eyes to pay $10 to wash and dry a load. Most of the time, my clothes are still wet, which takes longer to dry and once dried, well, not freshly clean smelling. I work from home a lot and have a pet, so the convenience of doing laundry at home became very important to me. I did have one of those Panda small washers for under $100 and a spin dryer about the same several years ago. It broke down after a year. It was time consuming and if time is money, then maybe I lost out somewhere in the equation. I would not order such a product again. So recently I started my search and was reluctant to go down the path of trying another washer. After a month of comparing models and reading and re-reading reviews, I chose the RCA. (was only $209 at the time I purchased with free PRIME shipping). It arrived on time and no damage. It did have pictures of the washer on the outer box and description. The Fedex delivery guy was quite impressed with it and had a lot of questions for me. I had it unboxed, hooked up and was doing my first load in 30 minutes. It actually holds more than I thought it would. I can also do a full bed sheet set in one load (fitted and flat sheet and 4 pillow cases). I can usually do 2-3 loads for a weeks worth of laundry. It has been a long time since I have been so impressed with a product. I would easily give this washer 10 stars if I could. This unit spins clothes very dry. I use a non-scented detergent and I have not had clothes come out actually smelling so amazingly fresh since I was a kid and my grandmother was doing my laundry! Very quiet operation. If it broke down tomorrow, I would order it again! HAHAHA Folks, there are no further words for me to describe my satisfaction with this gem. Get it, you won't be disappointed. Additional: Anyone who has one, what is the black plastic large square piece in the box for? The instruction manual is not very detailed. For instance, there is a soap dispenser listed in the manual but I havent been able to find it. I just pour my laundry soap on top of the clothes as the water is added. Absolutely no issues with this process. I would give the manual a 2-star rating. But this should not take away for the excellent quality of the washer at all. Also, I was initially looking for a unit that I can add water to. Didnt want to bother with hooking up to sink. I am so glad I took a chance on this purchase! The set up is way too easy and once done, you load machine and turn it on, you can walk away. There is no babysitting with this machine! UPDATE: 2/21/17 I cant believe I have had this gem for almost a year and a half now. Still no problems. I use about 4 times a week. Incredibly, I think this is the best and favorite thing I have ever bought from Amazon. LOL I honestly didnt expect it to last a year. No leaks, or loud banging. Total confidence and if it broke down today, I would have another one ordered within minutes! Life saver!!! :) ... show more

  • I’m so impressed excellent washer
Size: 2 cu ft
Let me tell y’all something I’m a homemaker and I wish I would have bought these portable washer and dryers a long time ago. This particular one has a spin cycle. That is amazing. It literally dries my clothes completely. I am so impressed with this portable washer and dryer by Hamilton Beach. I recommended it to everyone economically energy, efficient lightweight the box was so cool cause all you have to do is just lift up the box and it was pretty much ready to go to assemble. Another thing that’s amazing is how fast the water level fills up. It takes no time! I’m very impressed. And it’s not loud at all. It’s pretty quiet. All in all you can get a lot of clothes in there, but it says powder detergent only but I did use the liquid, but I will switch to the powdered, but it worked just fine with the liquid detergent just remember, you don’t have to use as much of the liquid detergent. Thank you Hamilton Beach. ... show more

  • Gets clothing cleaner than the full sized washers.
My wife and I live in a solar powered off-grid 20 x 40 cabin on 24 acres in a very rural area. Being solar powered, it is important that we select appliances that work well but are efficient with electricity. Our other requirement is the appliance not unnecessarily take up valuable living space. Since it is just the two of us, we decided to look for a small apartment sized washer and happened upon this RCA RPW091 0.9 cu. ft. Portable Washer. Reading the positive reviews we decided to purchase it. We've had it now for several months and have run some 30-40 loads of laundry through it. WOW! This is a very capable washing machine - much higher quality than we expected for the price. It gets our clothing much cleaner than our former larger unit and consumes much less electricity. Then there's the spin cycle... it gets the clothing about 85% dry such that we need to hang our clothing out to dry for maybe an hour or two at the most (we don't have a dryer). Now for perspective... It certainly isn't a large capacity machine. If that's what you're looking for, move on. We've found that it can wash two pairs of jeans, a few shirts, several pairs of socks and several undergarments in a full load. It can wash three full sized towels and a few wash cloths in a full load. It handles a Queen sized sheet with a few pillow cases thrown in just fine. The biggest load we've put into it was a Queen sized quilted cover. It was almost too much for it to handle but it handled it. I especially like that you can select a number of different wash programs then customize them for individual washes. Since we do a lot of work on the land, our clothing can get pretty soiled. I like that I can select the "Heavy Duty" wash cycle then increase the wash time or create a custom soak and wash and spin cycle then do a full wash cycle to get all of the dirt out. My only complaint is the really bad translation from Chinese to English of the manual. I got through it, sometimes laughing. If you want a very well written manual, download the "Black and Decker BPWM09W-Portable-Washer" manual also sold here on Amazon. The download link is found further down on the page. It's the exact same machine with slightly different colors. They took the time to rewrite the manual in understandable English. ... show more

  • Toploader with an Impeller at a bargain price
Size: 3 cu ft
The first thing one needs to grasp is that at 3.0 cu ft this is a pretty large and heavy machine -- definitely a two-person lift. If you want to retain the portability feature I suggest you buy a "mobile roller" and install it on that like I did. I bought this RCA washer as a backup to my Frigidaire 3.5 cu ft Frontloader (which is currently out of service -- at least until I install the replacement part I just got from Amazon. Wish me luck!). It's nearly as big as the Frigidaire, too. Although the RCA washer is sold as a "portable" unit, it would probably be just as happy being placed in your Utility Room as your primary machine instead of hooked up to the bathroom faucet like I've done. I'm just relieved that by having this machine I don't have to drive all over creation to the nearest Laundromat and burn up hours of time there. I've noticed some reviewers have stated their machine arrived damaged, sometimes heavily. I must say UPS did an exceptional job delivering mine as I only noticed a very, very slight ding on the right side of the machine. If you weren't looking for it you probably wouldn't even notice it. It's totally cosmetic and in no way does it inhibit proper operation of the machine. As a Toploader, the RCA washer naturally uses a lot more water than a comparable Frontloader, which is to be expected, as clothes in a Toploader are fully immersed in water as opposed to partially submerged like a Frontloader. The last Toploader I had decades ago had the Agitator in the center of the tub, which for some reason I found, well, agitating. It was a totally mechanical unit (i.e. no digital displays or lights at all), tended to "walk" all over the floor when unbalanced, and was very annoying. In contrast, this RCA washer uses an Impeller and thus has no Agitator. I was skeptical about how well an Impeller unit would work, but I must confess it works exceptionally well. It seems that Toploaders with Impellers are in the minority, as nearly all units I've found have the Agitator. I scooped up this RCA Toploader for about $455 (including delivery), and at that price I would say this machine is an absolute bargain. I got it four days after placing the order with Amazon. Compare that to the local Big Box stores which quoted weeks for delivery for pretty much any washer. My only complaint so far is the necessity of running an additional Spin cycle for large loads like towels since the machine will not run at full Spin speed due to balancing issues. I consider this a minor annoyance instead of a major flaw. Just remove the towels from the tub, lay them on top of each other in a stacked configuration, run a Spin cycle only, and you will be good to go. With the balanced load the machine will then run at full Spin speed to squeeze out the remaining water. Overall, I would rate this machine at 4.5+ Stars. My only question is long term reliability and durability, so I bought the 5 Year Extended Warranty as an insurance policy just in case. Hopefully the machine will provide many years of reliable service and the Extended Warranty won't be required. ... show more

  • 3.0 cubic Hamilton Beach washer
Size: 3 cu ft
This machine is called portable and compact, and it is slightly smaller than most of my other washers. However, for me it is just fine. We hooked it up permanently just like any other washers. So far so good. It washes well and rings out items wonderfully. The only negative so far is there is no place to add bleach. It is recommended that you fill washer up and then add bleach. Thats not going to happen! I am not going to stand in front of the washer and wait for it to fill! I found directions on the internet for this particular Hamilton Beach washer that says i can add bleach to the area for the detergent. I hope this does not ruin the machine. Otherwise this seems like this will be a great washer machine. ... show more

  • Did I get a dud?
I read all of the great reviews on this machine and thought it would be the perfect option for a relative in a small apartment. We followed the directions to assemble to a T, and proceeded to try it out. We put in 2 pairs of ladies size 6 linen pants and 3 t-shirts, a very small light load. The first attempt resulted in the water filling then the machine stopping. An error code then showed up on the digital display. We unplugged the machine and tried again. Everything appeared to be working as it should, so we went into another room and let the machine do it's thing. It was very quiet and we were impressed. After about 20 minutes, there was a horrible knocking sound with the spin cycle. I went to see the issue, and was greeted with a flood in the kitchen. I immediately turned off the water and opened the lid to see what was wrong. The lid broke from it's hinge and the clip that was holding the lid flew behind the stove. I never bothered to try and retrieve it. It took 1.5 hours to clean up all of the water and another 2 hours at the laundromat to wash all of the towels used to sop up the water. We also had to wash all of the wet clothing that was in the malfunctioning machine. We then had to use a cup to get the water out of the machine so it could be returned. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE! Trying to get a replacement or return was not smooth. The automated system kept sending me to an endless loop. An exchange was not available, and the option to return never showed up. I was offered options to contact the manufacturer, but NOPE! I should not have to seek warranty repairs on a machine that we had less than 8 hours. I finally got someone on the phone at Amazon to start a return. The product page is showing that this item is no longer available, and I have sneaky suspicion that there are some known issues. Since I ordered this just a few days ago and there were plenty, now it is no longer available is NOT a good sign. Perhaps I just got a dud, but it has caused a huge mess and I think I should steer clear of getting another. It sounds like many reviewers got a good machine, but I was not so lucky. Perhaps workmanship has been changed in this machine like so many other things these days. Many manufacturers are cheapening parts and quality to increase profits. Kudos to those who got great machines. If it comes back in stock and you decide to try it, I would suggest not leaving the room the first few times you use it to ensure it is working correctly. ... show more

  • Appliance repair guy approves.
Size: 3 cu ft
I don’t write reviews but I wanted to for this one because I have been on the fence so many times to buy a non traditional washing machine for the past year. I wanted something I didn’t have to pay a lot for, I didn’t want used, and I don’t need a normal sized machine because I live by myself and have my kids every weekend. Here’s some background info. I am an appliance repair technician and have fielded close to or probably over 10,000 service calls over ~8 years. I’ve seen it ALL. Which makes it difficult purchasing any appliance because I see how ALL the brands screw things up. Yeah, LG makes a great washer(I worked for them for a few years, saw their worst and most issues were either handled under warranty or the customer not understanding how it worked. A lot of issues were from shipping/delivery/installation). So does Speed Queen, but I don’t need or want to spend 700$-1500$ for a washer. It’s just me, and my kids every weekend. I don’t have a huge amount of laundry needing to be washed, but I can say, it’s enough not to want to go to the laundromat anymore. I came across this after looking at several other similar machines. This one offered a bigger size and the price was under 450$ shipped to my door. And it’s a size I can move without too much hassle. I unpacked it, tilted it back and wheeled it in front of my kitchen sink. I have a laundry room with a normal dryer and full washer hook ups, but I didn’t feel like dealing with all that. There is a washer there too, which, has big issues, which, would only make a garbage washer work sub par and I did NOT want to fool around with repairing(I love what I do and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Repair work is my thing. But people think I go home and love working on my own appliances. Not true. It’s why a plumber has the worst pipes in a neighborhood). I was just stoked not to have to deal with the laundromat. It came with everything needed to hook it to a normal sink with a quick connect fitting. With an extra hose for an additional hook up to hot water. I hung the drain line into the sink, and within 15 minutes of unpacking, I was washing clothes. The size of the machine is enough to wash a normal load of clothes. I even washed a queen sized corduroy comforter with zero issues. Also, it has wheels that when tilted back, it can be moved around. Easy to hook up and dismantle. Don’t expect it to be super easy though, I can move it with relative ease because I have long arms and am kind of tall and can tilt it back on its wheels, pulling it where I want to stow it until I decide to put it in its final spot in my laundry room. But I imagine there are many people who may need an extra hand. If I was to lift it and put a dolly with locking wheels under it, it would be perfect for many situations like tiny homes I would guess. It isn’t abnormally loud, fills the tub, it spins and extracts fully, I have had absolutely zero complaints so far. It’s built by RCA, very good quality, and can’t believe I waited this long to get a washer. I can’t begin to describe how impressed I am, especially at the price for what you get. It’s a VERY capable machine and I am very happy I got this. Some appliance nerd stuff in the next paragraph. Something I’m very impressed with, this does not have a door lock. It senses the door opening and stops, but makes it really easy to add clothes during a cycle. It has a lint trap on the basket itself, which isn’t typically seen in the US. Kind of cool actually and I enjoy seeing what’s in it after a cycle. The best part that I don’t see often on machines now a days, is that the drain pump filter is directly on the back. Super easy access and there is nothing difficult to get to on this machine, it’s really built well. For a new machine you can get for less than 500$ shipped to your door, you can’t beat it. So, my overall take is, if you’re on the fence, buy it. It’s a great machine and I don’t understand why you can’t buy these locally at normal outlets. ... show more
