  • Entertaining
We love this board game. Amazing for family night to play. It keeps us entertained for a long time and keeps us wanting to play it over and over again. It’s easy to learn to play. Definitely recommend for family night.

  • Interesting yet disappointing
The monster figures are on point well crafted as like the other version. The bag you put everything is is a huge downgrade in comparison to the other game. Most of the investigators in this version seem copy pasted from first game. Though there are a few new new ones. Biggest disappointment is the quality of the token pieces a good number of them when popped out of the mold were damaged with no way to avoid it. Mainly the violen pieces in particular. Though also the big character cardboard pop outs as well. Those were not as bad. Over all game is fun main reason for such low score is overall quality, copy past bits from previous game, and the what feels like little to no time put into the game play scenarios. Over all not horrible still playable just didn't meet expectations. ... show more

  • Disappointed after Universal Monsters Horrified
We love Universal Monsters (UM) so this seemed like a no-brainer purchase. However, in my opinion, this offering is inferior in every way. The Components don't seem as well done, the plastic bag instead of the cloth one in UM is an example. The monsters, while not bad, don't seem as well thought out as the UM ones, and it probably doesn't help (not the game's fault) that we're not nearly as familiar with them as the movie monsters. Or perhaps they are too well thought out, some of the victory conditions for them are very convoluted in comparison. The player characters have exactly the same abilities as those in UM, but the assigments seem more random, I feel like I'm just playing numbers, in UM you have some identity with the characters. If I'd never played Universal Monsters, I might give this 4 stars, because the game engine is very interesting, but after playing the other, this one just falls flat for me. After thinking more about this product I've decided to increase the rating to 4 stars. It's a great engine, so still a good game, just not as good as Universal Monsters. ... show more

  • Fun cooperative game that is appropriate for beginners to advanced board game players
Fun cooperative game that is easy to learn but provides unexpected challenges and surprises. I played with an experienced board game group and we thought this was going to be overly simple but it proved to be very unexpected and fun. Between the group members we own/play hundreds of board games and this was one of the top cooperative favorites of us all. ... show more

  • Great fun
I heard an interview with the creator on the excellent "Monster Talk" podcast, and was sold on it right away. The rules are a bit confusing on first, and second reading, but my daughter and I played through, and it's much easier than the booklet makes it seem. The game has six cryptid figures, up to any four of which can be used at one time, so there's a great deal of replayability and variation. The detailing on the cryptids is fantastic, and the plastic is very durable. Good range of playable characters with varying abilities which adds to playability. I like the idea of having to rescue townsfolk, and as it's a cooperative game, there's no sense of trying to outdo other players. It's all about defeating the monsters. I recommend it highly to anyone who loves board games, cryptids and boardgames that involve cryptids ... show more

  • Great Game
My friends and I loved the first game of the series, so it was a no-brainer for me to get this one. Great for small groups or by yourself. The variety in the monsters and how to defeat them makes replaying the game fun.

  • Excellent
I love that this is a teamwork game. Huge fan of the original Universal Monsters and this is a fun take on American Monsters. Challenging and entertaining game. My only gripe is that the Bigfoot character card and instructions show different frenzy levels and some of the monster cards have contradicting sentences so it's a bit hard to determine exactly what to do in those situations (so we had to make some house rules). ... show more
