  • Helps you get up!
This product really works. The only thing I found that improved it was to put a parachute cord harness off the back with a bucket and a 1 pound weight on a 15 foot anchor cord. This makes the little buddy track straight so you can drag the skier a bit before you pull them up.

  • Works Great!
I have a boom for the side of my boat for training new skiers. Anyone can get up on the boom. However, transitioning them to the ski rope behind the boat is a big step for most people. They are always disappointed that they can't get up as easily as they can on the boom. That's where the Aqua Buddy comes in. You sit the skier in the seat of the Aqua Buddy, help them with their skies and give them the rope. As long as they keep their knees bent and arms straight, they will get it - it may still take a couple tries. After succeeding 1-2 times on the Aqua Buddy, they have the feel and transition to deep water starts quite easily. this summer we haven't even bothered with the ski boom, just started them from the Aqua Buddy and saved much effort and emotional trauma. We've even been using it for people who know how to ski but haven't done it for a couple years. Note: you'll have to be careful on a busy lake, the skier can drag it out a ways from shore. On a breezy day, it can move quick once the skiers off and on their way. ... show more

  • Makes learning to ski much more enjoyable! Kids love it
My husband and I are slolam ski course skiers. Naturally, when we had our kids we wanted to reach them as soon as possible. The Aqua Buddy helps to bridge a large gap in learning how to water ski- getting up out of the water. We started them at about age 4/5 on the Aqua Buddy on trainer skis without tow rope. Once they mastered that (usually one summer long), we could transition them to using the tow rope on Aqua Buddy. Again, once mastered you can then have them deep-seated start. My daughter has used the Aqua Buddy so much, that when she went to transition to deep-water start, she got up the first time no problem. We always would "drag" them sitting on Aqua Buddy for ten seconds or so, then when we'd hit the gas, tell them to stand up. So, they also got used to the timing of when to brace yourself to be able to pop up. Yes, it's possible for kids to ski without it- after all my husband and I were just thrown into deep water with two wooden skis as kids and just told to get up. But it does make learning much more enjoyable than being dragged behind a boat trying to get up for the twentieth time. ... show more

  • It is helpful for new skiiers and experienced adults who have trouble getting up out of the water
I used it yesterday to help 4 skiers , 3 (children) never skied before, 1 was an adult that has not skied for a long time. For the 2 younger new skiers it was very helpful. for the slightly older 13 year old it was harder because she had trouble balancing herself on the aqua buddy with skis and ski line (but it was also are first try using it we will try again using it later for her). The adult skier who weighs over 200 lbs (maybe ob=ver 225 - I didn't want to ask her) found it extremely helpful. She was able to get up on the first try - later when she fell (to far for us to get the buddy to her) she was unable to get up out of the water. So yes we did find this Aqua buddy helpful. I may try skiing again - the one time I tried a couple of years ago I didn't have the strength to get up out of the water. I gave up and decided my skiing days were over. After watching the success my daughter had I may break out the solum and give it another try.:) ... show more

  • My friend skied for the first time in her 30's. Worked immediately
I bought this for myself, but I should explain I am 5'11 and while I run and bike, I didn't grow up around water or snow and had only tried to ski a couple of times. I got it late in the season and only had the chance to try it twice. While I didn't succeed, my much shorter friend did on both tries! I plan to try again, but decided to go ahead and leave the review based on her experience. She was really excited and happy about it which made it totally worth the money! Would likely have a similar effect and confidence boost for children or other adults who haven't been able to ski. ... show more

  • A great tool for beginners
This thing is awesome. My five-year-old learned how to ski in one day and was super enthusiastic about it entire time. Easy to set up, easy to use and to keep going. We’ll see how the deep water start happens for him but I would expect it’ll be substantially easier than the way we all learned! A great product. ... show more

  • Turned Tears to Laughter
My youngest child positively could not get up on skis - after multiple summers of trying. Every attempt ended in tears. We tried everything (and I've successfully taught somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 people to ski), including the standard starter-skis with the strap across the tips to help maintain good spacing. The poor kid was just consistenly beat to a pulp. Finally, last week, we got one of these. WOW - within 3 tries he was up and laughing with delight the whole time! You do have to be a little conscious of body position to get the skis (or board) under you on the seat so you'll be in a good position to stand. My 60-something mother also used it successfully. I was a little concerned about durability and whether it would hold its shape under stress - but this thing is not a wimpy pool float, it's really tough and sturdy. It inflated easily with the vacuum. This thing is hands down the best watersports training aid we've ever come across - we LOVE the Aqua Buddy! HIGHLY recommended! ... show more

  • Perfect training Tool
Perfect training tool, gets the beginner on top of the water and takes the drag and control problems getting out of the water out of the picture. After a few trips around the lake the beginner has the feeling of skiing making it easier to understand the ski control needed for deep water starts. Excellent value. ... show more
