    • Excellent performance for the price
I'm very happy with these light sticks. The range of intensity and color temperature is excellent for videography. The maximum brightness suffices to light a stage area of about 20 square feet for shooting video or stills. The long length of the lights provide a nice, diffuse illumination, minimizing shadows. The illumination is very even. The controls are easy to access and easy to operate. The power cords are long enough to allow hanging the control box on the tripod using the included bracket, or within the stage area, for example if you're adjusting the lights with a meter. The display of the controls is large and lighted, making the display easy to read in the dark. The multifunction control knob is a pleasure to use (much better than "up" and "down" buttons). The telescoping tripods are adjustable over a wide height range, up to about 6'. The base is wide and remains stable even when the lights are horizontal, for shooting down at a table. The height adjustment clamps on the tripods are sturdy and remain secure when tightened. For use off the tripods, the lights have an excellent hand grip, which is nice for maneuvering where a tripod cannot go. The internal cooling fans are extremely quiet and will not interfere with sound recording. I could not hear them at all unless I held them directly to my ear. Likewise, the control box is silent, no hum. The back of the lamp becomes hot in places after 10 minutes of use, but gets nowhere near causing a skin burn or fire risk. The included 8-inch gooseneck, which also mounts on the tripod, is a useful extra, on which you can mount a smartphone and/or microphone. The included color gel filters work well. There's no info in the instructions about how to secure them, and nowhere to clip them in place. They seem to rely only on "static cling" to loosely adhere them in place, which is not ideal. Also, there's no envelope provided to protect the filters from scratches when they're stored. The included storage bag contains the entire kit. The bag is sturdy, convenient, and compact. Fully loaded with all the gear, the bag is surprisingly lightweight, under 10 lbs. Overall quality of metal housing, metal fittings, electrical wiring, plastic lens, workmanship, design, and performance of this set are excellent for the price. While this is not "pro quality" equipment, it should survive getting knocked over, and seems made to last at least several years. Note, in addition to video and photo uses, these lights are also great worklights for wall painting, carpentry, flooring, etc. Quite a bit of thought and care seems to have gone into the design and manufacture of these lights. For <$100, this set is an excellent value for anyone who wants to step up from entry-level video and photo lighting equipment. ... show more

    • They're great for side lighting, but fan is a bit high pitched
I like the controls - they're very easy to use, and the lights themselves are pretty good quality, and sturdy too! Unfortunately, the fans themselves are a tad loud and high pitched for the size. They're a good starter set if you're in need of lighting or space. The stands themselves are a little "too" lightweight, but they work for the size of the lights themselves. What I do like about them is their size, tbh. I don't have to worry about bringing around my bigger setup on a c-stand with a light dome if I want to shoot my videos in other locations. When I opened up this kit I was pretty skeptical about the quality but that changed quickly. These lights are actually pretty nice. The bag it comes in is great and fits everything perfectly. The stands mid grade but hold these light weight lights flawlessly. The kit comes with awesome 2 pipe clamps (I would actually like to find more of these style clamps to buy separately) that you use to hold the power supplies on the stands for easy control access and they also each have 2 cold shoes on them so you can mount additional accessories like the included cell phone holder or microphone, flash, magic arm, etc. The power cords are plenty long but extension cords are your friend and you should always have a few around. The power ends screw into the back of the light which is a nice feature. 45 watts is plenty of power and these would make for a great way to light up a green screen. The lights have stepless dimming which is nice and a ample range of color temperatures (2700K-6500K) as well... plus red, yellow, and blue color filters should you need them. The light each have small fans to keep them cool at a cost of some fan noise (quieter than some of my way more expensive gear) which is nominal. So if you are shooting stills the fan noise is a non issue... but if recording video and audio then you just have to use the right microphone (and/or don't put a mic near the fans) type and strategic light placement, still making fan noise a non issue. As with any of these no name China brands I recommend you get the 3 year protection plan here on Amazon. So if you are looking for a nice bright (45W x 2) light kit on a budget then this RALENO LED video light kit is a good deal for what you get. ... show more
