On my pilot, the frame for the cabin air filter has an arrow to indicate air flow. (Which is downward) Match the arrow on the filter and you're ready to go. Do remember that the filter is not exactly square. So just turn it ninety degrees if it doesn't seem to fit. Amazon said it would fit and it did! Quality appears very good. Half the price of comperable offerings. No weird smell and it's a huge upgrade over the 10 year old factory filter. Note: for Hondas the pleet side faces outward, not the flat side. You'll figure it out either way, but figured it's worth pointing out.
