  • Cat with FLUTD on this and is doing well
EDIT: I moved my cat to Tiki wet foods (add h20) back in 2021. There may have been a recipe change because he started puking on the other food. Either way it was a great starting point to his recovery. My 1.5 year old male cat had a blockade in January 2020 (It is now March 2020). After 4 nights in the hospital and $4,000 later [Pet emergency in La Mesa is a rip off] (get pet insurance people...for real.) he survived. I quickly put him and my two females on this wet food and the HILLS prescription wet the vet gave me. The vet ok'd this food to transition on and said absolutely no dry food in the house. OK. well with two other cats this quickly gets my pet food budget to over $400 a month so I do also supplement some dry food in for my girls only to get the budget down. I tried the urinary dry food Purina Pro Plan has, but my older female has been puking it up so I will have to shop around more on that. The review on this food: It has good moisture although I add water to all of it per the vet. Beef & chicken: All three cats REFUSE to eat this flavor, like at all. I don't buy this flavor. Cats shouldn't really have beef anyways as it causes constipation and straining. Chicken Entree: Minced in gravy. Highest protein content and my male cat's favorite. none of the cats have any issues eating this flavor all up! I wish they offered the other flavors in the minced variety. Turkey and Giblet: Pate. Cats like it, but moisture content could be better. Salmon: Pate. Cats like it but get sick of it after a while. My older female starts to puke this one up too. She usually pukes anything up that has dyes in them. I haven't looked into it too hard. Ocean Whitefish: Pate. The cats like this in second place to the chicken. The only problem with this flavor is it tends to be lower in protein than salmon or chicken. This one also gets extra water as the cans are hit and miss on consistent moisture. Overall, this is a nice food to get your cat going on if they've had a urinary blockage but their are equivalent options that are more affordable. It just takes time a research to find them. There is a Canadian option called First Mate which makes the same quality/ingredients (Calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus is the same as Purina Focus) that are safe for FLUTD which will save me about $75 a month when I transition over to it. I just haven't switched over yet. As long as there are sales online for the Purina, I will keep buying it. On a urinary note, my male cat had some narrowing of the urethra so his pees are not that big, but they are large enough and consistent enough for me to not be concerned at this time. ... show more

  • Comparable to most "prescription diets"
IMPORTANT - DO NOT Change you animal's diet without consulting someone in your vet's group!! Due to mistakes made by my *former* veterinarian, my cat ended up with some urinary tract problems. I was told that Kitty would need prescription food for the rest of his life — very expensive food. And they would only prescribe one brand, the most expensive one there is. I took my cat to the major animal hospital in the city. They gave me information about other prescription brands, one of them being the Purina. I did some research. I took screen shots of the ingredient lists on the labels of the prescription and nonprescription varieties, then compared them side by side. I checked the amount of every ingredient and every percentage of vitamins, minerals, and compounds listed on each can. No differences in the ingredients, they were only described in a slightly different way. The only difference between the percentages of the vitamins, minerals and compounds was .01% of one mineral. I checked with my new vet's tech and she said that the nonprescription was fine, that is what she feeds her cat. The biggest difference between the nonprescription Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Cat Food and its prescription counterpart seems to be the price. While the nonprescription is expensive, it's about 1/2 of the prescription variety. *See above for the review regarding the need for small amounts of Miralax. I find mixing a few tablespoons of water into the wet cat food helps that process along and reduces the amount of Miralax needed. **Always do your research before talking to the vet. Get more information, ask the reasons for the special items in the formula, the causes of the condition, and the needs for kitty's best care. ... show more

  • Ollie loved it!
The last case of urinary pro-plan cat food I bought was a pate. It was so-so for him. He was never excited about his canned food but the pro-plan chicken w/gravy he loves and runs to his bowl when it’s eating time.

  • Cat food
My cat is very finicky when it comes to food but she will eat this completely and with just being told by the vet to get him on urinary health diet this is great

  • Thank you 🙏
I recently had to take my boy in for a urinary blockage (1 year old) cost a small fortune to clear out, after that I was given a prescription for Urinary foods, I told the doctor about Pro Plan I found on Amazon, he said that’s exactly what he uses for his boys, I switched over to pro plan and ever since then he has been perfect 👍 it’s expensive and I wish it wasn’t but it’s more affordable than the prescription ones and works. Thank you 🙏 ... show more

  • My cats love this stuff and so far, no recurrence of crystals problem.
Even the cat who isn't required to control magnesium and pH likes this food (vet says it's ok for him to eat it sometimes).
