This bag was a little smaller than I thought - but thats my fault for not reading the listing well... I think I will just buy locally, as the bigger bag is cheaper at PetsMart... But the food itself is a life saver. My 2 months old kitten was super sick when we got her. Constant diarrhea (on a very white and fluffy cat - gah!) I tried everything I could think of, even prescription food and got various medications from the vet, nothing was working. I was literally told that if she continues - she might just die... Then I remembered that her mother used to eat this particular kind of food (I'm not even a bit Purina fan, I always try to go the "organic and natural" route.. but I was desperate) Anyway - like magic - diarrhea just stopped... she is finally happy and clean!! I guess she will be eating this food for the rest of her life LOL... ... show more

Adopted a 2 month old kitten a few months ago that was on a name-brand Salmon Sweet Potato Grain Free Limited Ingredient food. But she was so gassy, the silent-but-deadlys would evacuate the area! The veterinarian reccomended this specifically as a better option, and viola! No more stinky gas! No tummy upset! She took to it immediately, and months later still seems to really like it. She's growing, gaining, and healthy, as she should be. The smell isn't off-putting either, actually smells kinda good to me, definitely better than the previous salmon one. We subscribe to this for monthly deliveries, and the convenience and peace of mind are great. No more worry of running out because I didn't realize the bag was low. We love her, she loves it. When my girlfriend and I rescued our orange tabby, Simba, from the middle of a busy road my girlfriend wanted to give him the best we could afford. This also meant our older kitty, Zino would be getting an upgrade, too. We spent over 2 hours in the local pet store reading labels, then reviews, then more label, then more reviews. Purina Pro Plan is a brand of food I actually trust. It’s a little bit spendy but it’s worth it for the peace of mind. With the health scares recently linking many grain free foods to heart disease, it is important to be aware of the SCIENCE behind anything you are feeding your pets. Purina Pro Plan, Science Diet and Royal Canin are all acceptable foods with numerous LONG TERM studies and science behind them to ensure the longevity and health of our pets. I feed Purina Pro Plan to my dog and decided to give this kibble a try as my kitten’s dry food. He eats primarily canned food for moisture but one of his 3 meals each day is dry food to maintain his dental hygiene. He LOVES this food a lot and gobbles it down. He has been eating it for 2 months after a transition period. His coat has been very soft and shiny on this food and he has a ton of energy. The only problem I have with it is that it makes his poop smelly and soft. I think it might be a little bit too rich for him so I am sadly going to have to try something else and may give the Science Diet kibble a try to see if that helps or just keep in on wet/canned food ONLY. Working for a veterinarian, you learn very quickly what foods suck for pets. Purina has never been a brand I recommended in the last. I still wouldn’t suggest feeding your cat the basic purina lines. Or any basic foods in that matter. However in recent years purina has made high quality cat foods at affordable prices. They even have prescription foods available. With that said, their Pro Plan is what we recommend to our patients to keep their cats healthy. Without breaking the bank. Especially when vet prescribed food run about $60 a bag. This product made my baby girl have BLOODY diarrhea! I brought home a beautiful ragdoll kitten and she was nervous/scared so I thought stress was the cause of the diarrhea. I switched the food, per vet recommendation, and boom. Solid, healthy poop. It made her crap smell like a barnyard and it was liquid/mucusy/bloody. Terrible! She’s on different food now and thriving! I worked for Animal Control and also with Rescue groups for close to 10 years before I had health issues (unrelated to the field) make it to where I was more home bound. I have ALWAYS taken care of the stray cats in my area as they are an extension of my fur babies. I'm a feral cat caretaker although I tend to tame them down. When there is a pregnant Mother cat around (I try to get them spay/neutered but it doesn't always seem to be the case when you are in a small town where people tend to just let animals go) I will get her the kitten food, and I try to use this one as much as possible and then the babies eat it when they are old enough. It seems to do a lot better with their systems in my opinion ... show more

This Purina Pro Plan chicken & rice for kitten is probably the best and most expensive food that I have bought for my baby. I rescued her from my backyard when she was about 4 weeks old and had to be fed milk supplements for 3 weeks before she was able to consume solid food. I used to feed her Iams kitten food but like people, she got tired of the same food so I changed it up. She's almost 16 months old as of today and she's in perfect health. Maybe it's because she's never been outside. Now she's older, I buy 3 different foods so she doesn't have to eat the same thing for 3 consecutive days. Many veterinarians advised against that but her stool is firm and tight without any issue. I always read the label and the first 2 or 3 ingredients has to be meat. Rice is always better than corn because it clumps together for better digestion. ... show more
