Description

Fantastic three step buffing system. Get a beautiful and a durable wax finish with this unique lathe-mounted polishing system. Buffing passes are made with a Tripoli buff (linen wheel), White Diamond buff (linen/flannel wheel), then Carnauba wax (flannel wheel). The final finish is very similar to multiple coats of lacquer but is softer and much deeper. This system includes: A set of three 8-Inch fabric buffing wheels,Tripoli bar, White Diamond bar, a Carnauba Wax bar, and a mandrel which holds the three buffing wheels. The heavy duty 14" polishing mandrel is supported by a live center in the tailstock and driven by a 2 MT in the headstock spindle. The system requires a lathe with a minimum of 1/2 HP. • Good addition to a lathe
This is a good addition for a lathe to polish pieces but the buffing wheels fray and piece being buffed can’t be too large as buff wheels are only a few inches apart

  • Good Buffing System
I have mixed feelings about this buffing system. On the one hand it works well to buff a nice finish on my turned pieces. The buffing pads are good quality, as are the buffing compounds. I've also used the Beall system that costs about half again as much, and from my experience the PSI system works just as well. However, I am concerned about the #2 morse taper on the end of the drive shaft that fits into the headstock of your lathe. The taper is cut into the screw threads on the end of the shaft which leaves some ridges on the taper see some of the other comments. I have found at times after using the PSI system that it is hard to remove the drive shaft from the spindle on my lathe's headstock. As I indicated I've also used the Beall system and it similarly has the morse taper cut into the screw threads on the drive shaft, but I haven't experienced the same problem of having the shaft stuck in the morse taper in the lahe spindle. I'm going to try lightly polishing the morse taper on the drive shaft to see if that makes it easier to put the shaft in and out of the spindle, and also cleaning the inside of the taper on the lathe spindle. Overall, a good product. ... show more

  • It Shines
Wow, nice shine with this three step buffing system. I mounted it on my Rikon Mini Lathe and it works perfectly. Having all three wheels mounted on the4 arbor is great no switching as with a single wheel. Not only has it done wonders for new items but most of my older wooden handled tools now look way spiffier than before, it is amazing what a nice shine will do to the visual appeal of handles. I have been skipping any type of finishes other than after sanding to at least 600 grit I just use the two buffing compound wheels then finishing with the Carnauba wax and these things just look great. I turned a bunch of handles for some old socket type chisels that had been without handles in my Grandfather's tool box so they were about due for an upgrade. I made the handles out of Bacote and shined them up with this buffing system and people actually remark about how cool the tools now look. This item has put a grin on my face, perhaps it would work for you also, I recommend this. ... show more

  • Low speed buffer attachment
An okay substitute for a dedicated low speed buffer. Mounted mine on my old midi lathe to make unit dedicated. Lathe swing is a limiting factor. Follow set up directions as a lot of lint from wheels initially, even after loaded with compound. Honestly would prefer a ls buffer but this works well enough. My old lathe takes up valuable floor space to serve this function whereas a buffer would take a lot less space ... show more

  • Great value for the price
The buffing compounds were more/larger than I expected. It is easy to assemble and works as advertised. Makes your wood lathe turning and finishing look very nice.

  • Great System For Polishing Turned Wood Pieces
Great all in one package for polishing turned items. One bit of warning: Be sure to move the banjo out of the way of the buffing wheels. I took the paint off a section of mine.

  • Wheels Very Stringy - Not That Impressive
This is my first buffing system. The one page instructions were no help at all. In fact, the instructions are very incomplete and misleading. I had to jump on YouTube to find something on how to put it together. I buffed two things and the end result is what you see in the photos. Very stringy and lost of material strings flying off wheel. The end result of the buffing was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I will continue to buff things and if things get better or worse, I will amend this review. I used the exact method stated in instructions. Danish oil, then the three waxes. ... show more
